Daniel (Grayson x Luke child story)

Daniel is adopted from Gamingerve31. There will be two parts, possibly three if you guys want that. I'll be working on the requests that I already have after this.

The family walked through the crowded streets of Emerald city, people chatting and merchants selling merchandise all around. The road to the central plaza was on the edge of chaotic from all of the higher ups and imperial guards that seemed to swarm the area, but if you were had been there for long, it was normal, although it took a bit to get used too. The slightly cool air filled with the aroma of freshly cooked bread from the bakery and tea from the cafe just around the corner. The merchants with their carts sold all sorts of items, ranging from food to rugs and books and all sorts of goods that were well worth a few sovereigns.
Even with the crowd, it was if the people were stepping aside to allow the family to pass. Rather is was because of their elite titles in the military or their status as a couple was a mystery that would not be determined. The two adults were well respected throughout the empire, but there was always destined to be those few who would disdain their love.
The parents were homosexual, taboo to some, accepted by others. That had a son with them, who was birthed from a surrogate mother.
The young boy walked beside his parents, his arms held out with one of his parents hands in each of his own. To his left was his father Grayson, a well renowned mercenary and the right hand man to the emperor. Not to mention the commander to his armies. They shared each other's blonde hair and Daniel bore an emerald eye like his within his right socket. His other eye was purple from his surrogate mother, which still managed to fit with his second father, more like a strict mother, Luke. Purple was his favorite color. He was the top assassin to Emperor Ferox Mortem, the most skilled with stealth and with the highest kill record far exceeding those ranked below him. His skill with a sword nearly matched that of his mate.
Daniel was young, only seven years old. He skipped happily between the two that he loved, only looking up when Grayson began to giggle.

  "Daddy, what?" Daniel asked innocently.

Grayson closed his lips until the giggles had died down. "Nothing, I just love you!"

Daniel burst into playful laughter as Grayson picked him up, holding him with an arm beneath his rear and the other around his waist to keep him in place against his chest. Luke laughed along with the two before his lips fell, a sudden downcast from his eyes displaying a distraught expression. Daniel and Grayson's laughs slowly died down, Grayson opening his eyes to look to his partner. His blonde eyebrows furrowed with concern.

  "Luke, are you alright?"

The lavender haired looked back up with a heavy sigh. "I have to take out the leader of a rebellion, and you know that those cases are always tricky. I don't want to leave tomorrow. I want to stay with you and Daniel, but...you know how the emperor is."

Grayson also let out a sigh. Luke had been assigned to a new mission out to the east that he would be sent out to take care of the next day. They all hated when he was away, and Luke and Daniel hated when Grayson was away as well. Grayson stepped closer to Luke, causing the assassin's lip to lift slightly.

"I know. It's going to be so cold out there!" Luke would have punched him if he were not holding their son. Instead he rolled his eyes.

Grayson set Daniel down, taking Luke's hand as he assured him that everything would be okay, that he would stay home to take care of Daniel and promising to keep him safe. They shared a quick kiss, not caring from the glaring eyes that briefly stared at their affection.
Daniel gazed up as they entered the guild plaza, different guilds circling with roads between each. The spy guild, craft guild, merchants guilds, and the magi guild, which Daniel did not know anything about.

"What's a magi?" He asked with his small, squeaky voice.

Grayson answered with a smile. "Magi is used to describe multiple magic users. To refer to a single one is a Mage."

Daniel's mismatched eyes lit up. "Magic?"

Luke stepped in. "Yes, but magic can be very dangerous if not used right."

Grayson rolled his eyes, pulling his hand out of Luke's. "Come on, Luke. Don't be a sour puss."

Daniel giggled despite having no idea what it meant. He asked, Grayson simply saying, "it's you're other daddy." With that, Luke socked him in the shoulder. Grayson wined, rubbing his arm.

Daniel looked back up to the magi guild, watching the different colored light shining behind the stained glass windows. What were they doing? What type of magic were they using? His curiosity kept growing, then he was stripped from his thoughts when Luke called for him so they could go home. Daniel followed, the thought of using magic momentarily slipping from his mind.
They reached their two story, high class home. Daniel's heart raced, jumping as he listened to the barking coming from the other side of the door. Once the door was opened, a large dog burst out from the other side, tackling the boy and assaulting him with licks. The tag on its collar jingled, Luke grabbing it and pulling the fluffy brown hound back. Daniel laughed, quietly wrapping his arms around the mutts thick furred neck.

"Rufus! Down boy!" He pushed the dog back, scurrying to his feet and dashing inside, his best friend chasing after with a loud bark.

The next day came, Daniel saddened by the departure of his father Luke. They exchanged kisses and goodbyes, then he was gone into the unknown. Daniel was still too young to know what an assassin truly was. All he knew was that it was dangerous. Grayson noticed his son's saddened expression, kneeling down beside him, hoping Rufus would not jump on him while attempting to comfort his child.

"Dad is going to be alright." Grayson assumed. Daniel had always called Luke dad and referred to Grayson as daddy. "He's strong, you know that."

Daniel continued to look to the floor, eyes glossed with tears. "B-but...I'm worried and...I miss him."

Grayson watched as his son fought back tears. This rarely happened when Daniel would be pushed to tears. Perhaps it was because he was getting older and understanding more around him, including the hardships and dangers that his parents jobs held. Grayson tried to think of something, anything to calm his son down. Suddenly, a thought sprung to mind. A smile came to his lips, eyes shining as he took one of Daniel's shoulders to gain his attention back.

"Say, how about we get you some magic books or something of the sorts? Wouldn't that be cool?"

The boy's tear filled eyes got brighter, his shaking lips lifting into a small grin. He nodded, wiping away his tears with both hands. So, they leashed the dog and went out to the market, buying Daniel his first book of magic. The child could feel his heart racing with excitement, pounding within his small chest. When he had first opened it, its contents only left him with a headache. He had stayed up nearly the entire night cuddled with his dog as he tried to make sense of it. Eventually, the switches in his brain began to go off.
Grayson awoke the next morning, an empty feeling inside of him to feel his arms empty, to not have the warm sensation again him, to see nothing but empty space beside him. He could only focus on the memories of his lover resting beside him, recalling the relaxation and cuteness in his sleeping face. He listened to the phantom his voice wishing him a good morning. The blonde silently prayed for Luke to return home safe.
He woke up with a yawn stretching his arms above his head before wiping the crust from his eyes. He only washed his face, not bothering to brush his teeth or get dressed until after breakfast. As he opened his bedroom door, his mouth released another yawn. His eyes shifted to his son's doorway that was was oddly brighter than usual. Daniel always had his door closed when sleeping, but now it was half way opened.
Curiosity mixed with worry as he approached the door, anxious feelings slipping away when he heard faint snoring before the door. He slowly and gently pushed it open, a breath of air finding its way past his lips upon seeing Daniel laying against Rufus, both with closed eyes and bodies rising and falling from calm breaths. They gently snored, almost in unison. Grayson smiled with blood rising in his cheeks, wishing that he had a camera to capture the moment. He then noticed the cold, entering the room slowly to grab a blanket from Daniel's bed, resting it on him.
The mercenary turned to leave the room, only to stop when he heard his son's nickname for him be quietly called out. Grayson turned around, his son's different colored eyes meeting his own, red and baggy from lack of sleep.

"Good morning, daddy." He greeted, rubbing his eyes with a long yawn.

Grayson smiled, his blush deepening with the guilt of waking him. "You didn't sleep much did you?" He asked with eyes resting on the magic book in front of Daniel, which was read past halfway now.

Daniel's eyes grew as if all tiredness had been washed from his system. He gasped, his dog jumping awake as his master slung up to grab a plant, then the mutt put his head back down to sleep some more. Daniel grabbed a potted plant and rushed up to his father, holding it up with a gigantic smile on his face.

  "Look! Daddy look!"

Grayson looked into the clay pot filled with dirt, a tiny sprout of green poking out from the soil. "It finally grew! Surprising since it's so cold out." He said the last part mainly to himself.

Daniel shook his head. "No! I did that! Watch!"

He spun around and plopped himself down in front of his book. Grayson watched with curiosity, head unconsciously tilting as his son placed the plant on the opposite end of the open book, closing his eyes and letting out a deep breath. He gasped as the inside of the pot began to glow with a darkened green coloration, then a stem poked out with a small head of purple. Daniel stopped, gasping as if the energy had been drained from him so quickly. His head turned back to his father, jumping up after grabbing the pot and rushing back to his dad.

  "See? See?"

Grayson was in total disbelief, but mainly wonder as he stared down at the flower yet to bloom. Extreme joy flooded into his system, so much that tears had welled in his eyes. Grayson's words stumbled, barely able to get anything out.

"Th-that's...that's amazing!" He said as he took the plant from his hand, setting it down to wrap his arms around the child and pulled him into an embrace. Grayson's hands combed through his son's soft, fluffy hair before pulling back.

Daniel adored the joyful look in his loving parent's eyes. "Daniel, did you know that magic usage in rare? Only a few people are capable of it. You're special."

  "I am?"

"You always have been." He moved the hair out from on top of Daniel's forehead, giving it a kiss.

The days went by and Daniel continued to improve his newfound magical skills. Today was an important day. That had gotten a letter from the palace that Luke would be arriving home today. They waited impatiently at the airship landing center, watching the sky for any sign of their family's return. Daniel hopped up and down anxiously, holding his potted plant against his chest.
He practically screamed in joy once the bottom half of the airship was in sight. They watched it land, standing there for a few minutes before mercenaries and other assassins unboarded, then that unmistakable penguin hat came into view.

  "Dad!"

Luke came down from the airship dressed in his uniform. It looked clean but if you looked close enough, there were stains of blood against the shining armor. A few dressings were wrapped around his arms, one on his leg, and a small patch on his cheek. He was so grateful to see his family again, eyes tearing up the moment they came to rest on the two. Once he was off, he was immediately met with crushing hugs.
After holding it for a few minutes, they pulled away, Grayson giving him a few quick kisses as told him that was glad that he was okay. Daniel grew more anxious, shouting for his dad's attention. Once Luke's sight had finally met up with his gaze, he began.

  "Dad, watch this!"

He mumbled picked up the plant he had set down, quietly mumbling the spell. Luke glanced to Grayson, an unsettling feeling in his stomach. However, there was a punch of pride as the head of the blossom swarmed with green light, blooming in the winter air to reveal a single tulip. The child giggled as he jumped around, proud of his accomplishment, and he didn't feel weakened this time.
There was a hesitation in Luke that left the other two on edge. Finally, Luke gave a wide smile, kneeling to rub his hand through his son's hair.

"I'm proud of you, Daniel. Keep practicing." He pulled his son into a hug.

After going home and laying Daniel to bed, Grayson had finally asked what was wrong with his husband as they themselves were preparing to sleep. Luke had been acting strange all day. Was it because of something that happened during the mission? The assassin shook his head, taking off his hat and setting it beside their bed.

"Are you sure that allowing Daniel to use magic is a good idea? I mean...what if something goes wrong and we can't fix it because we aren't magi? We can't use magic, we tried." He gasped in surprise when Grayson's arms were wrapped around him from behind. He flinched in pain, new wounds from the mission still sore.

"He will be okay, Luke. He's a bright kid, he'll know his limits."

A year had gone by, Daniel getting every magic magic book that he could, practicing in potion making and his preferred nature magic. He could make plants grow, control them, even summon specific animals such as owls, which he could not do at home or his dog would attack it. Even then, he still had issues, often pronouncing spells wrong, resulting in either nothing happening or some bizarre thing to occur. Once when trying to grow food for his family, he had accidentally summoned a mandrake that nearly killed all of them. Luckily Luke was quick to chop the thing down.
Had just bought a new book from a merchant, one that was filled with magic circles and rune spells. One in particular caught his attention; the communication with animals.
He was quick to go home, sneaking into the basement with Rufus. The ground was made of relatively smooth stone, making it easy to draw a magic circle with purple, white and yellow chalk. It had taken nearly an hour but he was proud of himself once he had finished it.

"Come on, Rufus. Get in the circle! It won't work if you're outside of it! If we do this right then I can talk to you as if you were a person!"

He had to pull the large dog up from laying down, dragging him into the circle as he complained how lazy the pup was. Once the Rufus was near the center, Daniel looked at his book to say the spell. It was quite lengthy, taking up one third of the entire page. Rufus sat there as his own attempted to figure out how to pronounce the words, his curly tail wagging as he leaned in to lick Daniel's face. The kid giggled, pushing him away so he could focus.

"Alright, I think I got this."

Daniel closed his eyes to take in a deep breath breathe. Once he was relaxed, his mismatched eyes opened up to recite the verbal incantations. The circle began to glow, both Rufus and Daniel finding that they could no longer move but the words continued to leave from Daniel's mouth.
Up above, Grayson and Luke sat at the dining room table close to the basement door. Luke's eyes remained locked n the door, his foot restless, shaking the table. Grayson giggled, sitting down across from his mate, setting down the kettle and passing a cup of tea his way.

  "Shaky much?"

Luke rolled his eyes, lifting his cup to tack a small sip. "Just worried. He's working on advanced spells that I don't think he's ready for."

Grayson took a long sip from his own drink, cool just enough to not burn his tongue. He pulled the brim away from his lips with a laugh. "You've always been the over protective type. Relax! He knows what he's doing."

Luke scoffed, looking back to the door. After a few minutes, he could hear Rufus barking, followed by his son's light voice. While his stomach has previously felt sick with nerves, he was beginning to relax. Perhaps everything would be fine...
Suddenly, screaming and agonized cries hit their ears. It was terrifyingly distorted,a mixture of human screams and hound howls, both filled with agonized pain. Daniel... The parents scrambled to their feet and rushed to the door, turning the knob and swinging it open. It slammed into the wall with such force that the wood had actually been broken, Grayson and Luke getting squished in the doorway as they both attempted to rush down at the same time.
The screaming continued, more animalistic than human. The parents both froze before reaching the bottom of the steps, wide eyes staring in horror at the center of the magic circle. There their precision was on his knees, screaming until he could no longer make any sound. Rufus was nowhere to be seen Daniel's ears had vanished, replaced with furred, floppy ones in top of his head. A long curled tail sprung from above his backside, at first nothing but bone covered with blood, muscles and skin quickly growing over it, covering itself in long fur. Grayson and Luke witnessed their boy collapse, despite the horrific scene they had just witnessed, the couple spared no time to dash to his side.

  "Daniel!"
...

As he awoke, a sore pain filled his body, especially on his head and lower back. Other than pain, his body was numb, hardly able to get his eyes to open. All he knew was that he was awake, in pain, and scared. Feeling slowly returned to his body, first taking in the sensations from external sources. It was warm, his body resting on something firm yet soft, his head sinking into something plush; a bed.
Daniel's eyes slowly fluttered open, groaning in pain as he clawed at the sheets. He was in his room. A hardened sensation was against his cheeks, which he assumed were dried tears. He was correct. His pain was nothing near the degree that it had been, although still caused the boy to hiss and collapse onto his back once more as he attempted to sit up.
His eyes snapped open as he noticed something odd about himself, how he was functioning and how he felt in general. Colors were slightly darker than they should have been, aside from white of course. He could smell better, taking in the aroma of wood and flowers around his room, and the noise. His fathers, both of their voices were so much more clear than usual, but still impossible to make out the topic of their conversations. However it did sound as if they were arguing. The sound was not coming from the side of his head, instead from the top.
Confused and scared, the boy lifted a shaking hand after sitting up successfully this time around, touching the top of his head where his pain circulated. A gasp came past his chapped lips as the tips of his fingers touched thin skin covered in small hairs, no, in fur. It was not his ears with hair falling over it. It was exactly what he felt when petting Rufus. His breathing began to quicken, noticing that sounds were entertaining through the bottom of the new limb. His hand moved down to the top of his jawbone. His ear was gone, yet he could still hear perfectly, better than before in fact. His tongue ran along his teeth, his mouth feeling more full than normal, only causing alarm to further spike as he felt sharp, long fangs breaching from his gums, each tooth longer and coming to a point.
Panic was setting in. If he had dog ears and teeth now, then the pain his back must have been...
He looked down finding just what he had expected; a dog's tail. However, it was not just a dog's tail; it was the same as Rufus's. His heart was pounding, the drumming rising to his throat. What had happened? Where was Rufus? He looked around frantically, his best friend nowhere in sight. Daniel began to cry, doing the only thing he could think of; calling for his parents.
The loud near shouting from downstairs had come to an abrupt halt, replaced with frantic pounding against the floor getting closer to the boy's bedroom. In little to no time, the father's were bursting through the door into their son's room, immediately getting to his bedside. They were gasping as they got to their knees beside him, each dad with tears in his eyes.

"Thank God!" Grayson praised with forced breaths. It was obvious that the both of them had been crying.

"D-Daniel? Are you okay son?" Luke stuttered with a cracking voice, lifting up his arms slightly, hesitating to hug his kin in fear of hurting him. "Please, please." He kept unconditionally mumbling.

Daniel's lips were quivering, his chest filled with tight pressure that made it difficult to breathe. "Wh-what h-happened?" His voice too was cracking. "What happened to me? Wh-where's Rufus?!" Tears were now streaming down his red cheeks.

Grayson and Luke avoided looking to each other, a long pause stretching on until Grayson placed his hands on Daniel's shoulders in attempt to force him to lay down. He insisted that Daniel get more sleep, but the boy refused. He growled abnormally, pushing his father's hands away as he he demanded to know where his best friend had gone and why he was the way he was now. Finally the dads looked to each other, Luke giving in and telling the boy what had happened.
As he listened, he looked to his bedside cabinet, there resting a purple leather strap with a thin metal dog bone tag. He reach out and took it, running his hand over the silver of the tag,. He could see his own reflection in the bright metal, his ears twitching, teeth barred. Daniel's sobbing worsened.

"I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" He wiped his eyes so blurred with tears that he could not see.

His parent's suddenly had their arms wrapped around him, insisting that it was not his fault and that they should have been better parents. Daniel wanted to object; they were amazing parents who he would not trade for anything and would not wish for about them to change. He wrapped his arms around them as they all went quiet, the family crying against each other until they all eventually passed out, cuddled against their son, vowing to never let him be hurt again.
