Chapter-27 Mae

"Mae," the voice screamed again.
I rushed towards the sound when I found the house door open. The sound was coming from inside.
Is something wrong?
I have to find my mate. But I cannot let that stop me from helping someone in need. I know I shouldn't dwell in humans' business but I cannot not help when they need help.
When I stepped inside the room, I felt my mate's presence so closer. My magic was forcing me to keep walking.
Wait, is that my mate inside?
"Mae, wake up," he screamed again.
The room door was closed. The sounds are coming from inside.
I heard soft whimpers, someone was struggling to breathe inside the room. Wait, why do I feel my mate is inside?
Shit, is she the one who's inside?
Shit, no.
I pushed the door open to look at what was happening inside the room. I was right, there was my mate lying all the ground, pale and lifeless. Next to her was a little kid who was sobbing trying to wake her up.
What does that kid mean to her?
Is he the one she's talking about?
I could feel it, he's a warlock too. But one of his parents is human.
If I am right, she should've turned eighteen just a few days back. That's why I couldn't sense her when I saw her before. Or must be because of the protection spell she had.
"Help, please," the little boy looked at me.
God, what am I doing instead of helping her?
I crouched down to her checking for her pulse. She is alive but there's no life inside her, her essence is draining along with something else. Like some poison is spreading inside her body.
I have to take her to a healer.
"We have to take her to a healer okay?" I looked at the boy.
"Then make a portal and take us, faster, please," his eyes glistened with tears.
He's bright for a little kid.
Cradling her in my arms, I made a portal to Greg's place. That's the only place where she can be safe and the healer who's taking care of his sister is trustworthy.
"Hold my hand kid," I actioned toward my arms.
Once I portaled, I heard Greg's voice booming in front of me. "What the hell Elijah?" He looked at the three of us with confusion. Me, the kid, and my mate in my hands.
"I need the healer now," my voice came out stronger than I expected.
Thank god he didn't ask further questions as I lay my mate on the couch. The kid sat next to her holding her hand, looking at me with a frown. His body is stiff as if he is in the enemy's territory.
The healer came a second later and without a look, she rushed to heal my mate. She glared at me once she started whispering some strange words. Wait, that's not some spell, I am sure of it.
What the hell is she doing here?
"Where did you find her?" the healer's voice is stiff like she knew something I don't.
Greg stood next to me, giving me a questioning look. I shrugged off his gaze. First, I have to make sure she is alright. Then I'll talk with him.
"Ten minutes back on the human territory."
Greg doesn't know about my mother's death nor me finding my mate.
"What are you to her?"
What the hell is wrong with her?
Why is she giving me this accusing look as if I did something to her? And wait a minute, shouldn't she ask who she is?
"Aren't you going to ask me what happened to her?"
The healer shook her head, "just answer my question."
God, this woman is way ruder than I expected. But I need her to heal and I know better than to not anger a healer witch.
"She's my mate," I finished as I heard Greg gasp while she gave a knowing nod.
"I need your blood, a part of your essence and let your magic free so that it can go to her. You've already done enough damages to her. So don't you dare come up with a reason to say no, okay?"
Wait, she knows something, isn't she?
But she is right, I have done so many things I couldn't even think of. My mind is screaming with so many thoughts and realizations.
"What should I do?"
She started explaining the procedure.
First, I let my magic free, it roared with happiness as it reached out to her, my whole body shuddered in contentment and pleasure like I finally went home. Then I closed my eyes and sent a part of my essence through her as her whole body started glowing.
The sight was mesmerizing to watch. She is mesmerizing to watch. God, with so many things happening, I never really realized how beautiful she is.
Her paleness slowly started reducing with every passing second. Relief flooded through me at the thought of her getting well soon.
"That's enough for now," she slapped my hand, removing it from my mate's. "Now, fill this bowl with your blood and get lost from my sight."
I growled at her words, why is she angry at me?
I slit my palm and filled just like she asked. Once I am done with it, my magic automatically healed my hand. Before she could glare at me again, I turned to leave with Greg and the kid.
"I am staying with Mae," he put a hand on her waist and leaned on her lap.
"But," I looked between him and the healer.
"He can stay, you both get lost," she glared while working with healing my mate.
"What's with this new attitude Caroline?" Greg frowned at her.
So that's her name. Caroline, the healer.
"Everything, now go before I kick you all out."
Greg and I walked out silently not wanting to anger her. For now, I have to make sure my mate is healed.
I know it's the bond talking but I couldn't help but be super protective of her. Mate or not, she is suffering because of me, because of the mistakes I made and I am responsible for it.
I slowly recalled all the mistakes I'd done in such a short period.
I accused my mate of stealing life essence and killing people when in reality she was just another victim who was in the wrong place at the wrong time. She is innocent. She should've found Zendaya just like I did.
The glow, she must've tried to heal her. With the spell protecting her, her magic felt powerful because of that. Also because she is pure-blooded and she must have used her magic after a long time too.
Every single freaking thing makes sense now.
Why I was attracted towards her, why I felt things I felt for my Green. It was because she was my mate. Me getting attracted toward her, feeling protective of her, wanting to make her happy, everything I felt was sincere and true because she was my mate.
She didn't manipulate me. I never felt disgusted because she was my mate. My magic was trying to break free because it knew she was my mate. But instead, I cursed her, God, I cursed her.
A curse which I have no clue about. I cursed her to feel everything but happiness.
Wait, when I tried to heal her, her protection spell was so strong that it didn't even let mine heal her. And how the hell did the thief be able to steal her essence?
I know for sure that protection spell meant to protect her in every way.
"Greg," I turned towards him once we settled in his room. "Is it possible to break the," I paused trying to form meaningful words? "Can some curse break a strong protection spell?"
"Why do you ask?"
"Curious," I laughed it off. "Is it possible?"
"I think so, with some ancient curses," he nodded.
"Like?"
I knew the answer. Yet, I wanted to hear from him.
"Don't know but my grandmother used to warn me to never use the three most ancient curses. The hatred Curse, the True Love's Curse, and the Curse of Agony. She used to tell me that she wishes no one such a misery. The curses bring misery to the curse giver too. She said that she hopes no one calls such an ill fate to themselves by putting that curse on someone."
And shit, I messed up big.
"What, what did you do?"
"I messed up big Greg, terribly."
