CH 2 | I WISH YOU DIED
Holding onto the gold fountain pen in your quivering hand, you gazed down at the black file which had your marriage paper. Taking in a deep breath you sensed Taehyung’s gaze on your physique while he was sitting on the adjacent couch to yours deposited in the center of his office cabin.
“Tell me that I am making the right decision, Dad… I can’t do it alone after you are gone by my side.” Taking a glance at the lad sitting while propping his forearm on his thighs, intertwining his fingers together.
Gazing down at me with his lunar eyes which were gleaming with the moonlight filtering through the glass pane. You observed the amber tincture in his eyes and the water settled on his lower eyelid which was glinting in the dingy room, “Are his eyes glistening?”
Before you could scrutinize any further he blinked, looking elsewhere, licking his lower lip and clamping it within his teeth. You heard his voice, “Read the papers, and if you are convinced then sign them.” His voice held the firmness but the smoothness didn’t go unnoticed by you.
“I don’t have any other choice than marrying you, Y/n. I have lost one of my closest friends and I can do anything to complete his last wish. Even if it takes to marry you and protect you with my own life. Your father’s last wish was to see you getting married to the man he wanted to and that’s what he told me to do when he was lying on his deathbed.”
Taehyung raised his feet from the couch while you opened the folder before reading the heading which was inked on the white paper, “MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE.” You knitted your eyebrows together after reading the heading inked on the papers before looking up at Taehyung who walked past you and stood against the glass pane, discerning the city vista with his hands inside his pants pocket.
Gulping down a lump in your throat, you read out the papers carefully, without leaving any word, “A contract marriage for one year.” Blinking off the tears, you licked off your dry petals, you haven’t drunk or eaten something for the time being. Probably since noon.
The sudden blurry vision made you close your eyes for a few seconds while you furrowed your eyebrows before opening your eyes and reading the last sentence written on the paper. Stiffening the hold on the pen, you opened the cap before propping the tip of the pen above the inked letters where your name was written in bold while Taehyung’s signature was already present.
Taking a second or so, you scribbled your sign on the paper while Taehyung turned around to take a look at you, signing the papers. Squinting his eyes, he noticed the gesture of your quivering hands as you finished signing the papers, and the pen slid off through your fingers. The pen plunged into the glass table and rolled down from the table to the wooden floor.
You clenched your eyes shut when you stretched your hand to your head which started aching ten minutes as you wiggled your head left to right, gingerly to slide the pain off while Taehyung noticed your every gesture as he took a few steps towards the couch you were sitting on. “Y/n…” He whispered, softly as you opened your eyes in that jiffy and blinked a couple of times.
Licking your lower lip you muttered, “I have signed the papers.” You gazed at the papers as a lone tear escaped your eyes which you almost instantly wiped off with the back of your hand, trying your best that Taehyung won’t notice it from behind but he did.
Sauntering toward his study desk, he removed the coaster from the glass of water deposited on his study desk prior to clutching onto the glass and striding towards you as you looked at his shiny polished classic boots halted just beside you and then the glass he stretched out for you to take a hold on.
You looked at his visage, “Have it.” Stretching your hand out you nudged his hand away, “I don’t need your sympathy. It won’t change the fact my father is not here because of you.” You said, looking ahead of yourself while Taehyung’s clutch on the glass tightened, “Will you just stop?” He muttered, gritting his teeth.
You threw a glare at him with your hazy orbs before raising your feet from the couch, “You have got what you wanted.” You declared while he didn’t break eye contact with you, “Of course. I always get what I want. No one can stop me.” You scoffed, “Why didn’t you die that day instead of my father?” You said, throwing daggers at him with your glistening eyes.
Taehyung can see the hatred and the loath inside your gaze you were looking at him with. He could feel the sting in his heart with the way you told him that he would have died that day, “I would have died that day. Mr. Lee would have been alive.”
“I did what I came for.” You announced, making your way out of his cabin. “The marriage is tomorrow at 5.” You halted your steps, gazing at him with your side eyes. Not feeling like answering him with anything, you continued to make your way out of his cabin.
“This is not going to be good. How dare she ignore me?” Taehyung muttered before looking at the glass he was holding. Hurling the glass at the other end of the cabin, Taehyung took deep breaths looking at the signed papers, “She is not easy to deal with.”
The shattered pieces of glass were the representation of his heart, “I will show you how difficult I am to deal with.” He propped his hands over his flanks.
“Secretary Choi! SECRETARY CHOI!” Taehyung shouted when he didn’t get any response as Secretary Choi entered the cabin, hastily. “Yes, President Kim.” Taehyung slipped his hands inside his pocket, “Announce my marriage with Mr. Lee Do- Hyun’s daughter, Ms. Lee Y/n. It’s tomorrow. Do all the arrangements.”
“Okay, sir. As you say.” Secretary bowed before egressing the cabin before Taehyung went to the table in search of something as he pulled the drawer open before taking out a packet of cigarettes. Gazing at the packet for a few seconds, "Just one." He pulled out a cigarette, clamping it in between his teeth.
He ignited the gold-tinged lighter by pressing the ignition button and the flame met the tip of the cigarette. He drew in a breath to light up the cigarette and inhaled the smoke.
With his eyes closed, he exhaled the smoke through his mouth, savoring the sensation, "I will show you what I can do, Ms. Lee Y/n."
Sitting inside the driver's seat of the car, egressing the skyscraper. You placed the back of your head on the headrest of the seat as you steered off to your mansion, “I am going to make your life a living hell, Mr. Kim Taehyung.” You whispered to yourself, taking deep breaths.
Entering inside the empty manor with the dimly lit lights as the chandelier was radiating the amber rays spread out the lounge. The solace didn’t leave your side ever since your father left you.
Your father’s voice was still looping through your head, “I miss you, Dad. I miss you.” You whispered, walking towards the dining with your heavy heart. Pouring yourself a glass of water, you took a few sips of water taking a seat on one of the dining chairs.
Taking a long and deep breath, you place your palm over your visage as you massage your temples, “Tomorrow is my marriage.”
Accelerating the black jaguar through the empty roads, Taehyung swiftly took a right turn towards his manor while your sentence was repeating in his head on a loop, “Why didn’t you die that day instead of dad?”
“Why? Why did you do that Mr. Lee? Why did you save me?” Taehyung thwacked the steering wheel with his palm before entering his manor and putting the brakes just under the porte cochere when he got a call from his Secretary, “President Kim, Ms. Lee has reached home.” Taehyung hung up, clicking his tongue before jumping out of the car.
Shutting the door of the car behind, Taehyung discerned another car in the parking area, “He is here.” Taehyung whispered before chucking the car keys to the chauffeur standing beside him. Entering the foyer, he discerned the lad standing in the lounge, probably waiting for him.
The lad standing with his hands crossed over his chest asked, “Why didn’t you tell me?” While Taehyung sauntered toward the man before asking, “What did I not tell you?” Both of them facing each other.
“Taehyung, don’t beat around the bush. You know what I am talking about. You are getting married tomorrow and I am getting this information through the news.” The lad declared with firmness, and anger lacing his voice.
“Jin hyung, I am already worn out. Can we talk about it later?” Taehyung asked while Jin just let out a sigh, “Taehyung, do whatever you want. Just stay safe. There are a lot of enemies out there waiting for a single chance to harm you.” Taehyung nodded, leisurely, “The risk-taking is a must, hyung. I am getting habitual now.” Taehyung answered as Jin sighed.
Taking a step forward to Taehyung, Jin placed his palm over Taehyung’s shoulder, “You really aren’t taking this decision in a hurry, right?” Taehyung couldn’t see in his brother's eyes which were trying to seek the truth behind them, “No. I have thought about it and I am ready for it.”
Jin nodded, pressing his lips together in a mild smile, “Okay then, Congratulations. I will be there tomorrow…. With mom.” Jin whispered while Taehyung stiffened in his position, “Oh hyung, she won’t even have time for it. Don’t waste her time.” Taehyung said with sarcasm while Jin shook his head left and right.
“Why are you like this? Why do you behave like this to mom? She is our mother. Come back home.” Jin asked, “I don't care if she is or not. This is my home and the one you are talking about is your mother’s house.” Taehyung declared as Jin slipped his hand off Taehyung’s shoulder before sighing knowing asking anything to him will go in vain.
Jin asked, “I can stay here tonight if you want.” Taehyung shook his head as ‘no’, “No. I am well alone.” Jin nodded as he patted Taehyung’s shoulder twice before making his way out of the manor.
Being all alone in his own presence. Taehyung let out a breath licking his lower lip as he made his way upstairs toward his room and then the bathroom. Turning on the shower, the cold water gushed down his pale skin while a shiver ran down his spine as he ran his slender fingers through his damp locks, pushing them back to his head while breathing evenly.
Placing his palm over the frigid tiled wall, Taehyung twitched around propping his hand over his flanks. “How everyone thinks that being rich can solve any problem and can bring happiness. But many forget that everything comes with a price, even being rich.”
Wiggling his head a couple of times, he washed his locks. Coming out of the bathroom donning the ash bathrobe, Taehyung ruffled his locks with the towel before applying the moisture over his visage and slipping inside his gray sweatpants.
Sleep was nowhere to be seen while you both were lying on the soft mattress, gazing at the white ceiling of their bedrooms as the moonlight was penetrating through the window. Twirling and tossing around the mattress, all the scenarios were looping inside your head, whatever happened in just a week.
He could give the moon to her but she only sees the darkness surrounding it.
All she wanted was revenge while he craved peace.
