𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝟭 || To Fetch a Doctor
It was September the First, a busy day in the Fowl household for all.
Maids, house elves, adults, servants, and most important of all, Emery Fowl herself.
Now sixteen years of age, due to attend her sixth year at Hogwarts, she was doing some last minute packing mere hours away from her trip to Kings Cross Station. The reason for her tiresome tardiness was due to the fact that Emery had spent all morning devising a plan where the Fowl household wouldn't be forgetting her anytime soon.
She played a prank, to set off exactly at the right moment.
The moment the residents of Wood Manor would be thankful of her absence, that's when the noise would go out, frightening all the inhabitants of the manor.
She sat on her trunk and snapped it shut, then yelled for her mother to braid her hair. Her mother sighed and grabbed the hairbrush, proceeding to braid Emery's hair into two pigtails.
While she did so, Mrs. Fowl reinstated all of the dos and don'ts of going to Hogwarts, and how a proper lady needs to wear gloves, and not speak loudly, or talk with her mouth full.
Nothing new to Emery, who opened her mouth and soundlessly imitated her mother, sending Cecilia into giggly fits.
Mrs. Fowl sighed, "When will you change, Emery?"
"Hopefully never," said Emery, giving the response in the same overly dramatic mournful sigh. She placed her hand against her head in mockery, and then caught Cecilia's eye and the two burst into laughter.
Mrs. Fowl sighed and shook her head as she left the room, hiding a secret smile as she remembered her father doing something similar when he was Emery's age.
Meanwhile, Emery had finished her breakfast with Cecilia, and was now waiting in the foyer for her trunks to arrive. The car was waiting outside for the company of four, which consisted of Mrs. Fowl, Mrs. Wood, Cecilia and Emery, along with a chauffeur and a driver.
Mrs. Fowl and Mrs. Wood took simply ages to get ready.
Cecilia and Emery were waiting patiently (only Cecilia, Emery was fidgeting) for their mothers.
Cecilia was reading a book entitled Pride and Prejudice, while Emery was staring into space and bouncing her legs and wiggling her limbs, tap-tapping on every surface.
"Em, cut it out," whispered Cecilia, not looking up from her book.
"You cut it out," countered back Emery.
"But I'm not doing anything," said Cecilia.
"Exactly," smirked Emery, stamping her foot violently and laughing at the look of shock on Cecilia's face.
"Hey, Cecy," whispered Emery, a mischievous look on her face.
"What?" Cecilia said hotly, looking up from her book sharply.
She hated being interrupted while she was reading, and Emery had the attention span of fruit fly, which is to say, barely anything.
"You know what's taking Mama and Aunt Del ages?" she asked, her smile growing bigger with every word.
"No," whispered Cecilia, "what?"
Emery then squealed in a high pitched voice, "where are my gloves?" she asked, looking at the empty space around her to mimic looking for a non-existent pair of gloves. "Oh, Del, I can't find my stockings," she said, moaning and groaning in a completely exaggerated manner. Her voice went octaves higher, "I can't find my powder, Prim, and I look simply awful without the white ghostly thing smeared all over my face."
Cecilia couldn't bear it anymore. All at once, she burst out laughing, while Emery was still imitating her mother and her aunt.
"AHHHHH," she squeaked dramatically, "I HAVE A PIMPLE ON MY NOSE. QUICK, FETCH THE DOCTOR!"
Cecilia was almost in tears. Emery's dramatic acts were too hilarious for her to do something so simple as to read in peace.
"YOU THINK A PIMPLE'S BAD? WAIT TILL YOU SEE MY TINY, MINISCULE FRECKLE ALL THE WAY BEHIND MY EAR. AND I DIDN'T EVEN GO IN THE SUN. I LOOK HIDEOUS NOW, HIDEOUS. ALL BECAUSE OF A HIDDEN FRECKLE BEHIND MY EAR! YOU KNOW, EVERYBODY LOOKS UNDER THE HAT AND BEHIND MY EAR, AND I LOOK SIMPLY UGLY," yelled Emery, in an extremely dramatic fashion, finally falling into peals of laughter.
The girls were interrupted from their giggly fit by the rapturous knocking on the front door, causing Emery and Cecilia to quickly look at each other and stop laughing.
Cecilia went forwards to unlock the door, revealing a smartly dressed man on the other side of the door, a large box in his hand, wrapped in the finest baby blue paper, neatly done with a white ribbon.
"Parcel for the young Miss Fowl," he said.
