CHAPTER THIRTY-SIX
Aya was pretty sure she had memorized the ceiling.
Every crack, every unpolished spot, she knew like the back of her hand.
After all, she had been staring at this ceiling for last few days, not being able to move an inch without someone's help.
Even breathing the wrong way sent waves of pain through her chest.
To make matter worse, Leyona's words had been parading in her head, and no matter how hard she tried, they wouldn't stop.
Aya exhaled heavily, than winced as she thought about it more. Everytime the girl tried to remember the situation, it just made her feel worse, even when she came to the conclusion that Shinobu was at fault.
Wanting to roll over but not being able too, she went back to staring at the ceiling.
That was all she could do at the moment.
"This demon art fucking sucks!" Leyona shouted, stabbing yet another illusion.
"So damn annoying!"
She took up stance again, eyes flicking to each figure. The demon that they were fighting had a demon art that allowed it to cause illusions. Currently, there were about fifty of them, charging and attacking.
When ever she stabbed or slashed them, they poofed away in a cloud of smoke.
It was really annoying, and Leyona was pissed off.
Not to mention, Ai, Hiari, and her had split up for the mission, so Kami knows where those two where.
"Come on you coward! Get out here and fight me like someone strong!" She shouted, raising her sword and slashing down the next illusion, before sidestepping another attack. The demon was among these fake demons, Leyona knew that much, since she had been attacked by it once.
Her sword finally struck something solid. An illusion to her left, one that looked very surprised.
Leyona grinned, before pulling her sword out of the demon's arm, and slashing it's head off.
The illusion's disappeared in puffs of smoke, and Leyona wiped her brow clean of sweat, before sheathing her sword.
Fucking finally. That took a while. She thought with a sigh, shaking herself out and stretching her arms, ignoring the dying demon next to her.
"You really where weak. Illusions? Pathetic." The girl said, staring the stars.
"Rest in peace, what ever."
"You.....you killed him!"
Leyona whipped around, unsheathing her sword while doing so. A small boy, maybe about eight or nine, stood, trembling in anger.
Dark green, messy hair covered his head, and pale red eyes, one holding a crossed out kanji for 'four' in them, the young boy was clearly a demon.
Weariness clung to Leyona's limbs, kind of like the blanket she'd huddle under before she became a demon slayer with her family. The Illusionist demon had tired her out, she had never felt this tired since the day she ran
"Wow. Guess Muzan's really going all in. Young kids? Man, what an asshole." Leyona commented, masking her tiredness behind confidence, trying to bluff her way around this.
The former lower Moon gritted his teeth. "You kill Onii-san, then insulted Him? You really are the scum of the earth!"
Leyona was slightly surprised by this, seeing as the kid was around eight years old and yet talked like he was thirty.
"Your brother was trying to murder me, and Muzan isn't a god, sorry to burst your bubble."
With that, the kid roared, lunging towards Leyona and transforming into a massive lizard like monster. Long spines burst from the kid's back as a long tail snaked out behind him. His teeth grew sharper, dark green scales bursting from his skin.
"Shit." Was all Leyona could say.
Sometimes, when Toru was alone, she thought about her life before becoming a demon, even though it wasn't allowed.
Muzan didn't care much about his current Upper Moon Six, a fact that she was both proud and slightly disappointed about.
There was two people in her memories that made her feel safe and warm, however she couldn't see their faces.
Dark red hair of a small boy, with a cheeky grin. Toru remembered a laugh(Was it her laugh? She didn't remember). She didn't know what he looked like now, although he must be in his teens.
Then there was white-blond hair, with a happy smile belonging to a young male. She remembered feeling warm and fuzzy inside.
However hard she tried, Toru could only remember those two people.
Red and white. Two different smiles, two different feelings, but both made her feel protected and safe.
Not that Toru couldn't take care of herself, though. She had taken the former Upper Moon Six's place, which the demon thought was something at least.
There was something that remained consistent, however. That aching want for them both to not leave. It remained even after Toru was out of the memory.
Among the Upper Moons, there was only two that made her feel remotely the way those two did.
Eotri, being the first. She was just so....kind. The two had hunted together, and each time Eotri had killed and eaten somebody, she looked away in shame and wished them to find happiness in their next life. However, Muzan would almost always show up, and make her use her blood demon art on the fallen human.
It was strange, how he knew where she was at all times.
Yori was another. Despite looking all tough and monstrous, he was actually quite the sweetheart, bringing gifts and things for Toru, Shinobu, and Eotri whenever he could. It was very clear how much he liked Eotri, even she was far too dense to realize it.
It was getting pretty pathetic to third wheel at this point.
For some reason, grief and long filled her whenever Toru saw them together, and that blond-white haired man would show up again, with that soft smile of his.
"Caw caw!"
Toru glanced up at the crow. Funny, it was a demon slayer's crow.
"Leyona Esaki is in trouble! Leyona Esaki is in trouble! Caw caw!"
Shattered Legacy Secret
Yori, Eotri, Shinobu and Toru will hang out whenever they can, by either hunting or just chatting at Eotri's bakery. Sometimes it'll be just three or two of them, and Shinobu and Toru don't tend to get along, but they all enjoy the time together.
