CHAPTER THIRTY
Leyona was pacing in her room, her socks softly hitting the ground with a steady thump as she mulled over her and Kanae's conversation.
Kanae was the sister of Shinobu, which made her the sister of Kanao, which by default made the dead girl Leyona's sister? It was big confusing mess.
In all honesty, Leyona didn't even know that Kanao had adopted her as a sibling until after Final Selection.
How big was her family tree now?
"Leyona!" Aoi threw open the door, making the girl in question jump so high she nearly hit the ceiling. "Yeah? What is it?" Leyona asked, after recovering slightly from the shock and meeting Aoi's eyes. She looked angry, which wasn't unusual, the woman always wore an expression of anger or irritation.
This time, however, Aoi looked as if she was about to murder Leyona.
What did I do this time? Leyona wondered, looking at Aoi with tired eyes.
"Where is Aya?"
The question irked Leyona for some reason. "I don't know. Why?" She asked, looking slightly annoyed. Aoi frowned at her.
"Aya's missing. I'm surprised you don't know anything about it." The woman crossed her arms, looking at Leyona with one eyebrow raised. Leyona crossed her arms.
"I don't. I woke up, Aya was gone. I thought she went to dinner or something."
"Odd. Because your as thick of thieves."
Leyona tensed up, her fists curling into fists. As she was about to object, however, Naho interrupted. "Aya left to go after Upper Three."
Both of them turned to her, as a heavy silence fell over them. Naho spoke again, her voice slightly trembling. "She said she wasn't bring Leyona along."
Leyona broke it after a while.
"Get me my sword. Now."
Naho glanced at Aoi and in response, the woman whipped around to stare at her adopted sibling. "No. I absolutely forbid you from going."
'But-"
"No. Naho, go tell Kanao." At this, the teenager nodded and fled, her steps lightly thumping against the wooden floor.
Aoi turned back to Leyona, her blue eyes seemingly bearing into her soul. Leyona shivered subconsciously. "You stay put, and don't leave the estate. You got that?"
The thirteen year old rolled her eyes. "Fine."
Aoi's glare sharpened. "You better."
With that, the woman left swiftly.
Aya struggled to maneuver trains for a solid thirty minutes, before eventually finding the right one, boarding it, and setting off. She wasn't sure what she was expecting, by the looks of it Shinobu's blood demon art revolved around poisonous gas.
She tugged a hood over her head a bit more as she saw Kanao make her way down the aisle, checking faces.
The gas would be easy to avoid. Just simply use her swords as fans and blow it away. Kanao she could throw off her trail easily enough.
It shouldn't be to hard to kill Shinobu.
Kanao was currently taking another train to the village where Shinobu had been spotted. While not in the right mental mind to do this, she had to get her student back.
Before Shinobu got her.
After Naho informed her of what had happened, Kanao took off, full on running to the train station. She managed to get on with minutes to spare, and was currently checking the seats for Aya's familiar head of short dark brown hair, and the splotch green butterfly pin.
She didn't see either. A hooded person, but that was it.
She took a seat by the doors, just in case Aya was by them. When the train stopped, Aya would need to get off. Kanao would stop her, and they would catch the train home.
"Why the hell did he protect me! I didn't need it." Snapped Shinobu to Eotri. The two demons where currently settled in a cave, Eotri sitting down and listening to her friend rant while nodding every so often.
"I'm sure Neito did it for a reason." Eotri said, curling her knees up to her chest as she absentmindedly looked at her fingernails, still crusted with blood. She sighed, putting her hand away.
Shinobu didn't notice.
"Well, why wouldn't he tell me?!"
"If you don't be quiet, people outside might hear us." The very thought of humans made Eotri hungry and want to throw up at the same time.
Shinobu looked over at her. "I still don't get why you refer to humans as 'people', when their sole purpose is for us to eat them." She said, with a small grin on her face. Eotri shrugged half-heartedly, not even bothering to explain.
"Where did Neito go anyways? It's day out, shouldn't he be here with us?" Upper One questioned, changing the subject, and causing Shinou to laugh wildly.
She waved her hand in the air. "I told him that no one likes him, and that he should find another spot. And he did!" She giggled, and Eotri nodded slowly. It made sense, the two always bullied each other to the point where it was concerning but nobody really seemed to mind.
They where to focused on themselves.
Everyone was.
"Hey...Shinobu?"
"Yeah?"
"Have you ever thought of your human life?"
For a moment, something in her friend's eyes shifted, to a calm, friendly person with actual feelings, not a psychotic one with random outbursts of anger and frustration. But, it was gone, soon as it came, with Shinobu shaking her head and laughing like it was the funniest thing in the world.
"That's treason, you know! Don't worry, I won't tell Master!" She said, chuckling all the while.
Eotri's eyes widened for a brief second, before relaxing again. This was an argument she had all the time with herself. Was it better to die, or keep living?
Eotri didn't know the answer, and didn't dare bring it up with the other Moons. The only two how would probably not tell Muzan would be Toru and Shinobu, and even Toru was a bit of a stretch. Shinobu would use it for blackmail later, the woman knew how much she feared Muzan.
She never wanted this. Upper One's first goal in life was to start a nice bakery. She remembered her friends who would stop by, her siblings that would taste test things, and her parents who would help her in any way they could.
She was happy then.
The demon lord ruined that.
"Thanks, Shinobu." Whispered Eotri, and all she got back was a psychotic 'Your welcome!' Followed by laughter.
Shattered Legacy Secret
Kanao adopted Aya and Leyona after Final Selection. She made them sign the papers, so now their properly apart of the butterfly sisters!
I think the character that needs the most therapy in this book is Eotri, honestly.
