CHAPTER NINE
"Aya, what are we doing?" Asked Leyona, glancing back down the dark hallway, holding a lantern that barely lit it up. The two where currently up at what Leyona assumed was 2am, judging by the stars outside. About a week ago Aoi had took them outside and made them sit out there all night teaching them how to tell time. Afterwards they had their normal training.
Leyona was pretty sure she would never recover from that.
"It's simple! We're looking in this weird room that we never got an answer about!" Eventually, the two friends came to a door. It was at the end of a hallway, near the hospital wing. The time that Aoi tried to teach first aid to them was probably in the top three most embarrassing things ever. In short, Leyona somehow blew up a bunch of chemicals.
"Yes, but why?" Leyona asked, glancing once again down the hallway. The dark spooked her. "Leyona, you cannot look me dead in eyes and tell me you aren't curious." The girl in question turned her head back to Aya, and mulled it over. Getting answers or beat twice as hard in training? Eh heck it.
"Fine. Open the damn door then, I wanna get back to sleep." Aya giggled, and Leyona couldn't help the smile that dawned on her face. Aya was just so...Aya. It made her feel weird.
The door creaked open, both girls wincing at the sound it made. They waited for a few moments, both staring down the hallway, just waiting for an angry Aoi or a displeased Kanao to come down it. Both where terrifying.
A sigh of relief escaped them, and they slipped into the room.
"Where's the Kami-forsaken lightswitch?" Leyona muttered, feeling around the wall for the small switch. "Leyona don't! Just set the lantern down."
"Fine, fine."
The twelve year old set down the lantern on the desk, allowing the two to get a semi good view of the room. Books and papers were scattered over the desk, the lamp on the only bare inch of it available. Shelves filled with bottles of odd light purple liquids where shoved against one corner, and everything was covered with dust "This looks like a murder scene." Leyona muttered, picking up a book on poisons, flipping through it.
"Is....is this wisteria?" Aya picked up a branch of a pale purple flower, one of the ones from outside. It crumbled in her hands, and the dark haired girl sneezed, causing a snicker from Leyona. "What's this?"
Aya set down the now crumbled flower, moving over to Leyona, who had put the book back and was now holding a small painted picture. "She's pretty." Aya commented, taking a hold of it.
"Her eyes are weird."
"Leyona that's rude."
"I'm not lying, am I? Her pupils are non existent."
The two stared at the painting. The woman had short black hair, dyed purple at the ends and held up by a purple and a weird pale mint green butterfly clip. She had pale skin, and dark purple eyes that where gradient, like an insects, and was smiling sweetly. Leyona was right, did she have pupils?
"She gives off short person energy."
"Leyona!"
"Sorry."
The two stared at it for a while. "Hey, isn't that Master Kanao's haori?" Aya was right, the woman appeared to be wearing the same white-teal-pink haori that Kanao wore all the time. "Huh, your right. Maybe they knew each other?" Leyona questioned, before setting down the painting.
"Maybe." Was all Aya said, before poking around the room some more, Leyona following in suit. A comfortable silence fell over them as the two searched, opening up cabinets and pieces of paper. "Hey, this says something about a 'Shinobu Kocho'." Aya said, waving a paper towards Leyona, who got off the desk she had been previously standing on. "Shinobu Kocho? Cool name." Leyona commented, taking the page.
"You think that Shinobu person is the one in picture?"
"Yes, yes she is."
Both girls whipped around, Leyona nearly dropping the page in fright. A frowning Kanao stood by the door, catching them in broad lamplight. At that moment, both students had the exact same thought:
We're gonna die tomorrow, aren't we?
Cat was having a great time.
She was going to pay her annual visit to Kanao and the girls, just to have tea and catch up with them. Of course, she couldn't actually taste the tea but that's besides the point. She enjoyed talking to them though.
"Cat! Wait up!" Cat turned around, ears pricking up as she whirled around. A smile broke across her face, as she spotted two people who she was very fond of, ever since she had joined the corp. "Nezuko! Tanjiro! It's nice to see you." Nezuko smiled, grabbing Cat's hands when she close enough. Her and Cat had really bonded at being two of the four demons in existence to actively fight their kind. "We haven't seen you in a while! How are you?"
"Alive and well, Tanjiro. As always." Even though Tanjiro knew the answer, since it was the same every time, Cat was touched by the concern. "Now c'mon. Aoi threatened to behead me last time we were late, and I don't want to be caught in the sun."
The three walked, Nezuko and Tanjiro telling Cat about improvements and discoveries about Nezuko's Blood Demon Art and Cat telling them about demons she had killed over the months.
Tanjiro and Nezuko had both spoken for her when she asked to join, even after the Wind Hashira had held a blade to her neck and threatened to kill her, even after the Sound Hashira had spoken up against it. She was eternally grateful towards them.
Cat had been a demon for centuries, and once she had been a killer. She had to thank Lady Tamayo for breaking her out of it, and had to thank Tanjiro and Nezuko for breaking her out of that depressive state she was in for so long. For Kami's sake, she was like that Tomioka person for a straight hundred years. Not talking to anyone and over all just being really weird.
So, while Leyona and Aya where about to possibly get murdered by their teacher, Cat was having a pleasant conversation with Tanjiro and his demon sister.
Shattered Legacy Secret
Cat and Nezuko are very close, comparing their blood demons arts and overall acting like gossipy high school girls in their free time. They don't discuss anything bad, mostly just who they ship(that's mainly Nezuko), and what demon was the strongest to fight(Cat brings that topic up a lot). Sometimes Kanao and Aoi get involved. Overall, their friendship is the definition of friendship goals.
