CHAPTER FOURTEEN

It had been a few months since Cat's death was announced, and all the Corps felt the blow.

Even the people who didn't know her stopped by her gravestone at least once during those months, then moved on with their day.

Moving on from that, however.....

"GAH! FUCK!" Leyona swore, clutching her foot with her hands, swearing like mad. Aya looked over at her, holding the tray of food. The two had been taking care of the wounded demon slayers, as punishment for bring explosives into the house(Aya wanted fireworks to celebrate Maaya coming back(Leyona tried to stop her))

"You alright?" She asked, laughter on the edge of her voice. Leyona nodded, setting her foot down lightly. "Yeah, I'm good. Just stubbed my toe." The demon slayer to-be said, hissing through her teeth as she set her foot down again. "Yikes." Aya winced, continuing on her way to the hospital ward.

The estate had a gloomy feel after the news, however Aya, Leyona, and the triplets tried to lighten up the mood. However, their efforts where mostly in vain, although Kanao and Aoi appreciated the effort.

Maaya was away on missions and rarely stopped by.

Aya and Leyona where training dawn to dusk, adjusting their breathing styles and making up new forms that might cover all their weaknesses. Taking some inspiration from Flower Breathing and whatever books they could borrow, certainly not steal, from Shinobu's previous office about Insect Breathing, they managed to make some pretty solid forms.

Paper Breathing was all about mind tricks, and making you believe that what you seeing was real. Leyona's sword was to be covered in an hallucinogenic poison, and would a combination of stabbing and slashing attacks.

Aya said what Leyona was doing was cruel, but all demons could burn in hell for all the girl cared.

Poison Breathing took an entirely different route. The sword was curved, first off, which Leyona thought was just insane, and covered in wisteria poison, much like the Insect Hashira's was. It covered more sweeping, arcing attacks, meant to kill demons quickly. The poison was a last resort.

Leyona had stared at her for a solid fifty seconds after Aya had presented that idea.

"Hey Ley! Mind getting the painkillers?" Asked Aya, and the nickname made Leyona's heart do weird circles in her chest. "Yeah, sure." She said, heading to Aoi's office, practically throwing the door open.

"Painkillers....painkillers....damn, where the frick are the Kami-forsaken painkillers?" Leyona muttered, looking around. 'Top shelf, by the door'

"Thanks Kiyo!" Leyona said, turning around to thank the teenager......

And discovering she was all alone in the room.

Leyona froze, trying to find the weird disembodied voice, when a butterfly flew in. Purple and black wings, it landed by the window, leaving Leyona more confused than before. "Uh.....thank you?" She said, a bit scared now as she grabbed the painkillers and left, steps echoing across the hallway.

I must have been imagining things.

A few weeks passed, with no sign or the voice or anything out of the ordinary. Winter was fast approaching, however, and Leyona could feel the bite of the chilly wind against her face whenever she went outside.

"Hey Kanao? Want me to get some firewood?" Leyona asked, poking her head into the woman's office. Kanao turned around, casting Leyona a small smile and nodded. "Alright."

Leyon took a breath of bitter cold air. The trees had long ago dropped their leaves, only some remaining. Most people found it depressing but Leyona found that she could finally see the sky, and everything seemed clear.

.....plus the nights seemed brighter.

Leyona actually took a sled with her this time, thank Kami, and she went towards the nearest village. The people there were rather friendly, and always thought of the Butterfly girls highly. That was Leyona saw, anyways, and like any good business woman would, she exploited it.

Her mother had taught her how to do that. While it may seem to be heartless for others, she was taught it was kill or be killed.

Her mother was right, as always.

Shaking her head to clear the thoughts, she arrived the town. Hm. Seems to be some kind of festival. Leyona thought, dragging the sled towards where wood was usually sold. The sled slid over some feet and Leyona got yelled at a bunch, but she ignored it. These people weren't worth her time.

"Ah! Leyona. It's good to see you!" The woodguy(Leyona had no idea what his name was, despite him saying it several times)greeted, and in response the girl nodded. "Is there anything flammable?" She asked, and the man chuckled.

"This entire town is flammable!"

Well. That was....concerning.

"I'm just messing with you! Here, I got spruce." With that, he brung out a wagon filled with spruce wood. "After your done, come back down for the festivities. It's lots of fun, trust me."

"Sure...." Leyona rolled her eyes, grabbing the wagon's handles and slowly making her way up the mountain. The snow hadn't fallen yet, and that mean that the woods where dark and gave off a creepy feeling. Leyona couldn't help the feeling of dread

Getting to the estate, she  dropped the wagon out back and walked inside.

"Leyona! Are you heading to the festival tonight?" The girl in mention sighed, turning around at Aya's voice. "No." She said with a sigh.

"C'mon! It'll be fun!" At that, Aya grinned.

"I picked out kimonos and everything for us as well!"

Leyona did not want to trek up and down the mountain again, so she shook her head. Even though wandering around the village, trying new food and hanging out with Aya did seem nice....

"Ugh. Fine. Does Kanao know?"

Aya squealed with excitement, gripping her friend's hand and dragging her down the hallway, ignoring Leyona's shouts of protest. "She does now!"

Shattered Legacy Short

Aoi was....surprised.

The walls and ceiling where covered in spiders, Aya sitting in the middle of it, holding a particularly large one.

Oh my. Was's Aoi one thought as she stared at the black and brown mass that was the dining room. Aya took notice of her, smiling and waving. "Hello Aoi! I'm sorry for all the spiders. They kinda just followed me home."

"Hey Aoi where is the spare practice swords-OH WHAT THE HELL" Leyona had entered the room, and was currently staring at the large mass of spiders.

"Their spiders Leyona!"

Leyona proceeded to faint.
