CHAPTER FOUR
"Bye. I hope I never see you to again."
Is what Leyona said, then turned away and began to walk down the road in the opposite direction of Casin and Michiko. The Ice Hashira looked offended, and opened his mouth to say something, but Michiko grabbed his shoulder and tugged him away, practically pulling him down the road.
Leyona huffed, adjusting the straps of her bag. They had made the trip all the way up the mountain to get most of her belongings, or just stuff she wanted to retrieve. The girl felt like she would break at any second, as tears threatened to spill from her eyes but she instead blinked them away each time. A lot had happened to her, but right now she wanted something to eat and then sleep for a week.
"We have to head to town. I left someone there and we need to pick her up before heading to the Butterfly Estate." Kanao said, beginning to walk ahead of her to-be student. Leyona was surprised, hadn't she been down the path? Maybe it was a demon slayer skill, after all her father had been able to walk as silently as Kanao was right now.
The two walked in silence for a solid hour, before coming into the town. The sun was just peeking out over the trees, washing the village in orange light. Stalls selling fish and various herbs where just starting to open, and the smell of tea drifted from a nearby shop. Not that Leyona liked tea, in fact she really didn't. She wasn't sure why though. The girl just didn't like it.
"Ah. There she is." Leyona jerked her head away from the tea shop and looked at Kanao, following her gaze until it landed on a pretty black-haired girl talking to the local baker boy. At the sight of him, anger rose. The baker boy, also known as Kaito, had flirted with her every time she came down to the village, even after she said she wasn't interested several times. In short, she hated him.
Leyona also didn't want the new girl to fall victim, so she walked towards her and gripped her wrist, and then proceeded to drag her towards Kanao, casting a glare over her shoulder at Kaito, who merely grinned and winked at her. Bile rose in her throat as she flipped him off and took her place by Kanao, releasing her hold on the pretty girl's wrist.
"Oh, thank you! I wasn't sure how to respond to that without being rude!" Chirped the girl, a grin spreading on her face. To Leyona, it rivaled the sun. "Your welcome...? I was just being a decent human being..."
"Well you are a very nice human being!" A this, the girl hugged her, and Leyona's expression was the embodiment of panic, glancing at Kanao for help. The butterfly girl smiled sweetly, and nudged the girl's shoulder just enough for the girl to let go. "Leyona, this is Aya. Aya, Leyona. You are going to be training together." A trickle of dread went through Leyona, she couldn't bother to think about spending another minute in the excited girl's presence, let alone the rest of her training.
After some breakfast, the group set out again.
Aya thought Leyona was nice. A bit quiet, but nice. Maybe she was just shy? Oh well, Aya would break her out of that shell soon enough, and then they would be great friends!
She was also thankful for her. That boy was just non-stop flirting with her, and she had pulled her away. A bit shocking, of course, but it had helped. Leyona seemed so...confident as well. It made Aya feel better.
The group of three was traveling behind a crow, Leyona adjusting the straps of her bag and looking at with doubt in her brown eyes. "Are we sure we should be following a bird?" She asked, looking annoyed. "If it makes you feel better, we're meeting someone at the halfway point." Kanao said, and Leyona mumbled something under her breath that Aya didn't catch, but Kanao chuckled a bit.
They were down a road, walking beside rice fields. Aya and Leyona looked like regulars, all dirty and messed up, while Kanao stuck out like a sore thumb. It was rather hilarious, all the shocked and dirty looks they got. They walked all day, Aya sometimes asking for a break and Leyona just sucking it up and continuing on after she saw Kanao ignore Aya, saying that her future mentor had to give out at some point right?
Long story short: Kanao didn't, even when her two apprentices dropped farther and farther behind them, even as the sun creeped higher and higher into the sky and the heat bared it's fangs. Leyona was sweating like mad, but was determined not to show weakness in the face of her sensei. All in all, the shock hadn't really settled in yet and when it did it was going to hit hard.
"Aya. Leyona." Both apprentice's stopped, staring at Kanao and a weird person with a hat. The person was wearing over the top clothing, covering every bare inch of skin available, which must've been terrible at mid-day. "I'd like you to meet my fellow Hashira, Cat." At this, Leyona tilted her head and was barely able to move her legs enough to walk beside Kanao. Cat wasn't a Japanese name as far as she knew, but she didn't judge. However, what she would judge, was wearing all shades of grey and black with long sleeves with a straw hat in August, while it was noon. Seriously, why?
"Hello. I'm Leyona Easki." How many times had she introduced herself in the last 16 hours again? She couldn't remember. "My names.....Aya....." Casting a look at her companion, Leyona was very concerned. She looked like she about to die at any second, seriously. Red faced and sweating like crazy, her concern only grew. Kami, spare her.
Turning her eyes away from Aya, she took in the stranger again. The rice hat looked weird, with two triangle looking things sticking out of it.
Cat turned her head up slightly, just enough for Leyona to see her eyes, and when she did, fear took her.
They were slit, like a cats.
Like a DEMONS.
Shattered Legacy Secret!
Caron, Leyona's dad, is American. Him and her mother met in demon slayer training, and while he lived he used Thunder breathing!
I really hope you all enjoyed! At this point I think my writing has gotten worse. Sorry! I would like to thank Veyrum for reviewing it and giving me advice, plus all you who have read it as well. Can't put all of you, I'm once again sorry!
