CHAPTER FORTY-THREE
Two demons.
Two fucking demons.
One of which, was an Upper Fucking Moon. And not just any Upper Moon, but Upper Moon One. To say that the situation was bad, was an understatement. Except, the Moon looked.....nervous? She looked unsure of her herself, pale yellow eyes flicking to the entrance of the ruins, as if she wanted to leave, but couldn't because of the sun.
A slight tilt of her head revealed Yukiharo just....standing there, moon-yellow eyes narrowed at the Upper Moon, who was sweating somehow. Hiari and Ai where standing relatively close to each other, Ai standing in front of her brother, sword drawn.
You'd have to look closely to realize how she trembling.
Leyona took up a stance, looked Upper Moon One right in eyes, and swallowed her fears as she breathed, only letting cold, hard determination flow through her. There was three other people-humans, she corrected-in this room right now, and two demons. One Upper Moon. Chances of living?
....Very slim.
She liked those odds.
Just as Leyona was about to swing at the Moon, it threw it's hands up to cover it's face and squeaked.
To say that Leyona was shocked was understatement. "Listen, I don't want to hurt anyone, just please don't kill me." It murmured, pale green eyes looking Leyona, clouded with desperation and fear.
In that moment, the girl wondered if that's what her brother looked like before he met his demise.
Leyona tightened her grip on the sword, gritting her teeth as she shoved the image from her mind, eyes glinting with new found fury. "What's you stupid blood demon art? Placing pictures in the heads of your victims?" She spat, tensing her muscles again, and the demon's eyes went wide with horror as she took a step back, only to hiss in pain from the burning sunlight at the entrance.
Out of the corner of her eye, Leyona saw a sick grin make it's way onto Ai's face, and the feeling of bugs crawling on her back as the demon denied it over and over again.
"Make a move and I'll shove you into the sunlight myself." Leyona muttered, sheathing her sword. "So stay over there." With that, she stalked over, glancing briefly over her shoulder at Ai. "Watch the other one."
With that, Leyona stood beside the demon, peeking out into the sunlight. If they really wanted to, they could just leave....
"I wouldn't do that. Lord Muzan is outside, probably waiting in the trees for you guys to step out." The Moon murmured, following her gaze and sighing, before shuffling towards the wall and leaning against it. "And when it's dark, he'll come and kill you all. Even her." Kami, the Moon sounded just so....miserable, defeat tracing along her words and sadness weighing in her eyes.
Leyona hastily put her guard up again, narrowing her eyes at the Upper Moon, but her curiosity got the better of her. "Why did you become a demon if your so miserable?" She asked, and somehow the Upper Moon looked even more sadder.
"I saw something I shouldn't have."
"Eotri! We have an order for you!"
The sixteen year old hastily put the last pieces of pastry onto the pan, and then turned around and darted out the door. "I'm here Mom!" She called, grabbing the box and sniffing the air, letting the calming smells of baking sugar and bread. A petite black haired woman, appeared the doorway, hastily rubbing flour off her daughter's cheek and then smiling gently. "It seems like yesterday you were trying to carry four boxes of dorayaki while covered in flower...."
"Mom!" Eotri squeaked, squirming out her mother's hold while laughing. "There's people in the shop!"
"Embarrassed of this old woman now? Seriously?" The older woman shook her head, a content smile on her lips, before sighing. "You be careful, alright? It's getting dark, deliver the mochi and then leave, understood?"
The girl nodded, adjusting the box in her hands. "Don't worry, I'll be back before you even know it!" She replied, then stepped around her mother and exited the bakery, stepping down the streets at a relatively fast pace, smiling and greeting people that she was familiar with on the street.
The house that she delivering to was relatively far from her bakery, and each step marked another shade of red added to the sky. Soon, the sun had disappeared, leaving stars in it's wake and Eotri was wondering if she had made a wrong turn somewhere.
Pausing momentarily and glancing over her shoulder, Eotri swore she heard muffled screaming from an alleyway, and despite all her instincts telling her to run away, don't look back and get some help, she carefully set the box down and balled her hands into fists, and stared into the alleyway.
Blood.
A body.
And a man, dressed head-to-toe in black with a white fedora, stood over a dead woman, blood leaking from her throat. A shriek tore itself away from Eotri's throat, and she stepped back as the man swung his head to look at her, gleaming red eyes seeming to bore into her very soul.
He blinked out of sight, and when Eotri turned around to run, he was there.
The man-the monster-swung at her with long, pale blue claws, and then her world went black.
...
When Eotri woke, she was holding her mother's discarded head in her bloodied hands, which she promptly dropped and ran outside, hoping to explain to anyone entering the shop what happened.
Taking a step outside revealed to be all the innocent people that had been outside slaughtered, bodies ripped apart as if they had been eaten, and Eotri threw up, then recoiled in horror to find it red.
Red as the blood that marked her hands.
Red as the man's eyes.
Leyona simply stood as Eotri seemed to pour her entire life story into her words, simply staring at the demon, while a bloom of sympathy grew her chest.
It was only a shout from Hiari that drew her out of the trance, in which he screeched "Demons! Out there! The sky's suddenly dark, and....and...!"
Leyona whipped around, and fixed the Upper Moon with a glare that could turn the warmest summer breeze cold. "You traitor...."
Only to find Eotri gone.
The crow flew high above the sky, black wings flapping at the sudden storm that had appeared, thick black and dark grey clouds circling as flashes of lightning lit up in it, seeming to cover all of Japan. Sure enough, demons were swarming into Inazuma's discarded temple, and still they flew.
They flew until they landed on the arm of a slayer, a slayer with once kind green eyes that had since been tinged with sadness and anger, and it cawed out nine words that would impact the slayer forever.
"Muzan attacking! Muzan attacking Inazuma's Shrine in the west! Slayers trapped inside! Caw!"
Muzan merely smiled at Eotri when she reached his side, and it made her even more sick in her stomach.
Shattered Legacy Secret
There was two twin demons that were trashed for Toru, and their blood demon arts revolved around water and lightning.
