CHAPTER FORTY-FIVE
When the Upper Moon joined the battle, Leyona should have turned tail and ran.
But she didn't, instead instantly charging at the demon in question, blade in hand, staring unflinching into his eyes.
He was a massive, scaled beast, with a wide grin that seemed to stretch across his entire face and arms far to long for his body. It made Leyona want to gag, but she instead switched up forms, bringing up every ounce of bravo she had.
And then floor collapsed, cracks appearing along the walls of stone as Leyona cried out in shock, watching as the Upper Moon threw himself away using rocks as platforms.
"Cowa-" Her shout was abruptly cut off as Leyona hit the ground, a solid crack resounded as one of her ribs shattered upon impact. He vision swam for a moment, black creeping at the edges as she fought to stay conscious.
The slayer gritted her teeth, yelping in pain as she accidentally put pressure on her wounded side. The world wobbled for a moment, and then Leyona heaved herself to her feet. Her body screamed desperately to not be so stupid, to lay back down and fall into that blissful sleep until someone helped her, but Leyona ignored it.
Quickly using Total Concentration Breathing to numb the pain, a trick she learned from Kanae literally five minutes ago, Leyona heaved a sigh, shaking the pain-haze out of her head and rushing forward, ignoring the bolts of pain up her side.
It would be more....logical to dress the wound as best she could before rushing off, but Leyona didn't run on logic.
.....Plus she didn't have any bandages.
Aya dropped down the massive hole in the ground, quickly rolling to preserve some of the impact, she had practically bolted here after the train stopped. As far as she could tell, Japan was thrown into panic and disarray because of the massive storm, as it had apparently covered all of the country.
The storm covering the country, the demon's sudden attack on Inazuma's Shrine....it was all to perfect for Aya's liking. Unsheathing her swords and slicing the head of a demon, she heard the sickening crunch and screams as other slayers weren't as lucky as her.
That had been a new revelation: Muzan had been sighted here, and because of that Oyakata-sama had instantly sent out messenger crows to all slayers to come here instantly, even ones who had healing wounds.
So Aya would have been called out regardless.
A second chance. Aya thought, taking off down the winding tunnels, marking the walls with quick sword slashes as she went. Inazuma's Shrine was known for it's twisting, winding tunnels that where practically mazes, so Aya had to make sure not to get lost.
Throwing open a pair of olden doors that practically crumbled in her grasp, Aya surveyed the room. It was another cave, smaller with words that where written in an unknown language. Looking backwards momentarily, Aya caught sight of the markings on the hallway outside. She must have been moving to fast to see them.
Then pale purple smoke drifted in, and Aya tensed up as at once she recognized who was coming before the figure even revealed themself.
Shinobu. Upper Moon Two, former Insect Hashira. The murderer of Kanao.
A second chance indeed. A second chance to finally kill Shinobu.
Their eyes locked, and without a word Aya lunged at the demon, Shinobu blinking at her in apparent surprise, before smiling.
Didn't she kill this girl a few months ago? Actually, better question, why did she keep coming back to fight her?
Shinobu easily darted out of the lashing blades, hitting the floor with a light thud before twisting away, keeping an eye on Aya as she waited for the poison to take to the young slayer, and growing more and more confused by the minute when she saw Aya take a deep breath of the poisoned air without even flinching.
Oh. She must be immune to my demon art. Her family was always oddly immune to deadly substances, I mean, seeing as her father drank more sake then water before he died. Shinobu hummed, swiftly taking to the air with one powerful flap of her wings, leaving Aya to curse below. What's even sadder is the fact that it's public knowledge.
"Get down here you murderer!" Came the shout below, and Shinobu looked down with mirth in her eyes. "And if I don't?"
There was a three second pause, and Shinobu closed her eyes and chuckled just as a sword was thrown directly through her, causing the butterfly demon to fall out of the air in shock. "That is....somewhat impressive." Shinobu said, as Aya darted forward, sword raised. "But sadly not impressive enough." Shinobu ripped the sword out of her stomach, tossing it back to Aya who yelped as she attempted to catch the sword without poisoning herself.
Hm....if her swords are still doused in wisteria poison, which I am not affected by, and she's immune to my blood demon art....then it'll be a battle of strength.
Something that I lack.
Kai took a breath, then hurtled himself forward across the gap using Lightning Breathing's first form , then taking off several demon's heads in one fell swing with his sword, not stopping even for a second. He might not be able to find his parents-in fact, they where probably dead, the more he thought about it-but he could kill Muzan.
He didn't find Muzan, but he found the next best thing in the hallway over. A demon, standing over dead bodies, posture tense as she appeared to stare at them before leaning downwards, touching a hand to their head.
Kai lunged, and then the demon dodged, allowing him to see her eyes, which where wide with terror and surprisingly guilt, which he ignored.
After all, demon's couldn't be empathetic. He learned that years ago when he begged for his life against the demon that was going to kill him and his sister.
He looked that demon in the eye long ago, and he did the same now, as Kai stared directly at Upper Moon One.
Shattered Legacy Secret
Kai knows how to speak English.
I don't think I did very well on this one. After all, I literally wrote it in twenty minutes.
Shinobu and Aya Confrontation: Part 2! Yay.....
Leyona's injured, quite badly as well. I wonder how that's gonna affect her fighting?
And Kai and Eotri are gonna deck it out next chapter. Let's go.
