CHAPTER ELEVEN
Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Cat arrived the morning after, a nice surprise for Kanao and Aoi. However, when Aya and Leyona saw Nezuko, both had an existential crisis. If your wondering why, well,
Nezuko was out in the sun, talking to their teachers and acting like nothing out of the ordinary.
Aya screamed, and Leyona took one look at the demon and left the garden, all the while 'Nope, not today' over and over again. However, Aoi soon caught up to then and dragged them back, keeping a firm grip on their shoulders to remind them that she was in charge, and that this was her estate.
Which lead to the now very awkward situation of now, with two of Kanao's students sitting very awkwardly, trying not to look at Nezuko but at the same time sneaking glances at her. Cat caught all the glances, however, and was sipping her tea with a smirk on her face. The cat-demon was currently under a tree, which was thickly leaved and so the sun didn't filter through.
She thought it was great.
"So! What are your names?" Nezuko asked with a smile. Aya suddenly looked like she was about to faint, while Leyona just glared at Nezuko. "Why should I tell you?"
Silence fell over the group, the only sound was of Leyona getting smacked over the head by Aoi.
Maybe it wasn't so great.
"You must have killed many humans to be immune to the Kami-damn sun. The only reason I don't despise Cat is because she hasn't eaten humans, and if she has she's eaten very few." At this, Cat began to choke violently on her tea, dropping the tea-cup and spilling the remaining tea all over her uniform. Tanjiro hit her back a couple times with his remaining arm while explaining. "You see, Nezuko hasn't eaten any humans. She regains her energy by sleeping."
"What, so after a battle you just pass out?"
"Leyona I think you should stop...." Aya said, poking her friend's sleeve and smiling apologetically at Nezuko. "So, uh, I'm Aya and this is Leyona." She said, with a nervous laugh at the end. Leyona opened her mouth to speak again, but was silenced by a glare from Aoi.
"Those are lovely names. Your parents must've loved you very much." Nezuko said, with a smile at Leyona. That got two different responses, Aya turning three shades paler then she already was and Leyona looking away. Nezuko winced. "I truly am sorry if I said something wrong."
It wasn't great.
"Oh course you said something wrong!" Tears where in Leyona's eyes, and Aya was cracking the tea cup with how hard she was holding it. "Can we get everyone to calm down? I wanted a nice day today." Cat said, recovering from choking on tea and trying to defuse the situation. "I agree with Cat. Can we all relax and enjoy the nice tea that Aoi made?" Kanao took a sip of her tea while saying this.
An uncomfortable silence fell over the group, Leyona and Aya no longer drinking the tea. Aya had lost her taste for it, while Leyona just didn't like it.
Cat coughed. "So, I notice that everybody has been doing well." She said, flicking her tail in a vain attempt to cut through the tense atmosphere. Tanjiro nodded. "Yes, yes. How have you been Aoi?"
"Good, thanks." Aoi said, glaring at Leyona all the while.
"How about you Cat?" Nezuko asked. She'd be lying if Leyona's comment didn't hurt, but she knew that she was a demon, and the girl had every right to act that way. Nezuko didn't blame her.
"Good. I killed a demon that was around the power of a lower moon a couple weeks ago." The demon in question said with a small smile. "How about you guys?"
"I've been busy training Leyona and Aya. Maaya's in final selection, however." Kanao said, pride in her voice. "Final selection, huh? Hope she's doing well." Nezuko said with a laugh.
"Although I'm sure she'll make it back. Maaya's one strong person." Tanjiro added with a smile. Kanao smiled, nodding. "She is."
"We'll be better!" Aya chimed in. Leyona gave her a look.
"Aya, I once watched you fall down a hill at speeds unknown to humanity." The twelve year old said, laughing at her face. "Seriously, Leyona?" Aya whined, shoving her slightly. The tension of the meeting dissipated, leaving the the group laughing and talking. Leyona and Aya gradually warmed up to Nezuko, and it was peaceful.
"Caw caw! Mission for Cat! Mission for Cat!" The demon in question glanced up, smiling as the crow landed on her arm. "What is it?"
It was now nighttime, hence why Cat was wearing just her regular demon slaying uniform and not covered in kimonos.
"North! North! Head to the North! Men in their thirties have to be going missing there! Caw!" Cat's smile dropped, and she nodded. "Lead the way." With that, the two set off on the journey, the crow leading and the demon following.
It took a bit to reach where the sightings had been. Four entire days, in fact, not that Cat minded. The walks helped ease her mind before a fight, and despite her being immortal and probably the strongest hashira, she still worried. "How powerful is this demon?" Cat asked, pricking up her ears as she searched for any signs of demonic activity. "Caw caw! Said to be an Upper Moon!"
Ice trickled down her spine. An Upper Moon, huh? Well, she'd just have to be more careful.
Walking through the forest, she strained all her senses in looking for the demon. Smelling the air, picking up footprints with her eyes, trying to hear anything to give away it's spot. All she found where footprints, but it had been raining pretty heavily for the past few days so that could be anyone's.
Suddenly....
A presence. A demonic one at that, powerful enough to knock Cat off her feet. But she stayed upright, and ran towards it, unsheathing her katana. If I go quickly enough, I'll be able to finish it off quickly. Hopefully my presence isn't strong enough for it to pick up. Quickly making her way across the forest, and coming to a cliff looking across a lake. The demon was there, standing and admiring the beauty.
Cat dove for them, when her head was promptly lopped off by an unknown force. However, with her body moving at the speed that it was, the blade came into contact with the neck. The head that been cut off disintegrated, as her head grew back quickly, just in time to see the blade be broken in half.
Stunned, she whirled back just in time to a bladed axe-like tail hit where her face used to be. Cat looked at the demon, as it turned around and looked her over, grinning like a mad-woman. Her green eyes, which would have been unthreatening on a normal basis, held something that made the hair on the back of Cat's neck stand on end.
They both held the kanji for 'three' in them.
A foreign feeling washed over Cat.
And it was fear.
Shattered Legacy Secret
Aoi made Leyona and Aya apologize to Nezuko after the meeting was over.
I am really sorry for the cliffhanger(not really), but yeah! Cat V.S Tori, probably tomorrow!
