Sonnet of a Free Spirited Man
(A challenge by and dedicated to styles_orama )
Pensive he kneels upon the grass strewn ledge
Ocean view resplendent before green eyes
Brave is the one enchanted by its pledge
Of fortunes waiting on horizon tides
Ruthless dangers lurk beneath the calm waves
He navigates their wrath with dignity
Master of perils not beholden slave
For the vast sea is not owned; it is free
Larus argentatus circle around
Hungry to seize any scraps they can steal
Hands clasped and feet remain firmly on ground
Taming the scroungers with what he reveals
Reflections of his life mirror the sea
His spirit is not owned for he is free

Author's Note:
My friend and fellow author @styles_orama put forward a challenge to write a Sonnet.
Where to start I hear you cry! Well as a virgin sonnet writer I had to Google it!
The rules are:
* 14 lines broken down into 4, 4, 4, 2.
* a rhyme scene within those lines of abab, cdcd, efef, gg.
* lastly, written in Iambic Pentameter which is 10 syllables in each line with five pairs of alternating unstressed and stressed syllables (the rhythm in each line sounds like: ba-BUM / ba-BUM / ba-BUM / ba-BUM / ba-BUM)
I am no Shakespeare and it's not perfect but it's a satisfying first look at Sonnets.
Thank you for the challenging challenge Styles!
Best, LVO x
