Mysteries that Remained
The next morning Vaibhav stood in front of the station. The prisoners were being loaded onto a van, to take them to court.
"Blood relatives!?", Chaitali to Vaibhav, "I thought the devdasi of Mayatalav were a matriarchal legacy...!"
"No! They were chosen, the attending devdasi chooses.... actually I don't know how exactly they choose...", Vaibhav said putting his hands and inside his pockets, "why are we talking about this? Don't you have a trial to get to...?"
Chaitali twisted her lips and breathed in the air, before walking to her car. Vaibhav turned his attention to the two CRPF patrol, who stood by the loading bay as the police led the suspects into the vehicle.
Master da walked heavily with his cuffs. He stopped beside Vaibhav and spoke looking into his eyes, "Only one true sacrifice was made yesterday, could've let this war go on, a little longer!"
"This war will bring nothing.....!"
"War will bring revolution", answered Master da, "and the revolution will stop the war!"
The CRPF officers boarded the van with them. Vaibhav kept looking as the doors closed.
Bimal caught Vaibhav by his shoulder and turned him around. Vaibhav looked down. Bimal breathed heavily, "Remember the time when I told you this will blow up in our faces..."
Vaibhav let out a smile and nodded his head.
"..thing is it didn't! Biraj died, four officers were injured. Thirty-one arrests and five critical conditions from their side", Bimal kept going as Vaibhav looked up, "you pissed off Surojit and still Ms. Karmakar boarded her car laughing today. This is the biggest trial of her life, and somehow studying cases instead of signing 'accident' reports...it made her feel good..."
"Sir, the trial is not won! A lot of your officers could be subjected to internal investigations...! Your whole career will be questioned..."
"Sir!", a constable came by, "this evidence was not marked!", he handed Bimal an aluminium bag. Vaibhav peeked and extended his hand to turn a corner to reveal a logo.
"Where was this!?", Bimal asked the constable.
"At the Hatighisa camp", answered the constable.
"Tea powder samples!", Bimal said to Vaibhav. Tea garden corps often sent the freshly flushed tea inside unmarked bags to prospective companies. Company experts tasted it before marketing the tea under their brand.
"... remember when you told us to find the banker of these operations", Bimal said juggling the tea packet a little, "you want to do a last forensic analysis!?
Vaibhav smiled as he received the package, "can I make the arrest? You can send two constables with me! And we also need a written statement from Aishik!"
Bimal agreed, nodding his head, and Vaibhav started to walk away. Then Bimal called him back, "you aren't doing anything supernatural, are you?"
"No sir!", Vaibhav answered straight as he kept walking towards the basement.

Shefali was not happy when Vaibhav arrived at the estate with the two lady constables. Vaibhav crossed the courtyard and instead of going to the dormitories, he went to the adjacent drawing-room.
Shefali sat on the couch, one leg raised over the other, keenly looking at the portrait of the thousand eyed Lord Indra.
"Is there something behind that painting?", Vaibhav asked as he entered the room, asking the constables to wait outside.
"No!", Shefali adjusted her victorian era gown and sat straight.
Vaibhav pointed at the opposite couch asking permission to sit. Shefali nodded. Vaibhav sat and threw a evidence bag into the tea table, "we found it in a raid, the first response thought that this expensive aluminium packaging mismatched with the naxal's monetary capabilities!"
"Aishik confessed?", Shefali said without looking at the tea table.
"Written statement that you funded his project and many other naxal campaigns across the town", Vaibhav took out a set of keys from his pocket, "and forensic analysis of this tea, found in many other naxal camps, proving that it came from your gardens!...guess I don't need your jeep anymore..."
Shefali smiled a little before looking to the dormitories, "all my tenants dried their underwear outside, thankyou for listening to me Dr. Roy!"
Vaibhav sat quietly for a few moments, "I've been hearing a lot of stories about your husband...he was too smart to have an affair with Maya, so what happened?"
"Heard about the illegitimate child, have you?", Shefali smirked, "sired by Talukdar Sikdar! Maya left her somewhere in Coochbehar. After that it was her, Nandan and the business in Mayatalav. That lookout point was a huge success, still is...!"
"And then Maya came to know about your father's hand in the Mandi auctions, she called the income tax department on you!?"
"That afternoon, Maya and Nandan fought! Like there were kicks and punches, I even hit her with a bamboo in the head....!"
"You murdered her!?", Vaibhav leaned closer, ushering the constables inside.
"No, we just never heard from her again! She left pretty injured that day....!", the lady constables came and cuffed Shefali, making her stand, "Nandan was diagnosed with dysentery soon after. They told my husband was paying for his sins...."
"....You are not taking the stand? You were the lead investigator on this....!", Shefali said again.
"Well the MLA threw me out, so it seems...", Vaibhav started to walk backwards, "I think I'm gonna pray to a goddess...!"
