A Supernatural Complication
The jeep kept jerking again as Biraj drove through the military road.
"Listen to me!", Vaibhav nudged Biraj almost making him lose control of the wheel.
"She rained thunder bolts on you, may as well bring a natural calamity to Naxalbari....! We need to warn the inspector!"
"He'll take forever to believe you!"
"Vaibhav, I don't know if you were trained to be the whole solution!", Biraj took a sharp turn, "but we a part here! Understand, a part of a solution. Bimal needs to mobilise rescue..."
Vaibhav was almost thrown off the jeep by the abrupt turn. He grabbed the side handle of the jeep and composed himself. Then he spoke again, "I'm aware of our supernatural complication! At least let me tell you all of it...!"
Biraj carefully observed the road, already computing a lot of information, but he considered hearing out Vaibhav.
"...so you know how Master da told that she used to go with him on every expedition!", Vaibhav paused for Biraj to acknowledge.
Biraj was irritated that Vaibhav stopped for his approval, deviating from his normal behaviour of talking on continuously. Biraj turned and nodded at him.
"I think she was mapping the area, the machines are to harbour the destruction...."
"I thought she was supernatural. She could make it rain with just a thought!"
"Too random and too vast!", exclaimed Vaibhav, "she is targeting something specific, and for that she to anchor the calamity..."
"Why?", Biraj took pleasure in interrupting Vaibhav, "I mean the why of it all? She's a goddess, aren't there greater things concerning her. She becomes a naxal...!?"
Vaibhav let out a puff of breath and slumped back on the seat of the jeep. He rolled his head to the side, "I suppose....but she chooses to be a part of rebellion", Vaibhav got quieter with each word, "yet we stand against her, makes you question your actions...!"
Vaibhav got quiet, Biraj drove on, apparently missing the depth of Vaibhav's words.
"Do you support encounters, Biraj!?", Vaibhav asked in a baritone voice, "I mean Bimal proudly said that he deliberately went in to kill. The encounters were not the last resort, it was intentional...!"
Biraj got more serious than he was before. He was surprisingly not angry, as if he has been waiting for someone to ask him this. He breathed slowly and spoke, "Bimal had to decide what kind of police officer he wanted to be before he could decide what kind of a man he could be...!"
"Don't think of me as vindictive!", Vaibhav said in a low voice, "it's like the government sent me here to say what, sorry we broke the law before and killed you, but now we'll follow the law and condemn you....!"
"Back to the point!", said Biraj, "how do you deal with a storm goddess, I mean...wait how did you fight her?"
"Huh!", Vaibhav raised his brows, "I just went with instinct. She was terrifying but not above natural laws you know, bullets hurt her, thunder is electricity thus it can conduct...."
Biraj patted the holster on his belt, "bullets always end up as the solution, don't they!?"
"If you can prevent her from burning it with her powers!", Vaibhav pointed out.
Biraj suddenly stopped the jeep. They've reached their destination. Vaibhav sat up and alighted from the jeep.
"....I forget, where are we at?", Vaibhav shouted at Biraj, still thinking deeply.
"The Baka lohar bridge", Biraj twitched his lips, like seriously! "the naxals have taken hostages!"
Vaibhav looked ahead to see two perimeters. One formed by yellow tape with police officers inside. The other straight ahead of jeeps blocking the riverbank, the naxals aiming rifles over them. The sunlight was peeking through the surrounding jungles. Bimal stood beside a makeshift command desk.
"I'm going to tell the inspector about the harbinger....!", Biraj stepped forward. Vaibhav held his arm,
"What.....no, no, we agreed!?"
"She could be here, Vaibhav!", said Biraj intently, "I don't disagree with you but...."
Vaibhav raised his voice as he answered, "....no telling Bimal until I've got a non-fatal way of bringing her down.....or she attacks!"
Biraj was about to answer when a familiar crackle resonated through the fair sky. Vaibhav followed the light from his side to the parked police jeep and watched intently as a lightning bolt fell few miles into the upper slope.
Vaibhav flared his nostrils as Biraj began to speak, "look we don't know who she is! She speaks Sanskrit, I mean that's like Shiva the destroyer vibes!", Biraj pointed at the horizon, "please don't insist on a different process to be followed! Seems like the harbinger and you are the same person!", Biraj freed his hand and walked to the assortment of police officers.
Vaibhav stood still as he processed Biraj's words. She is a mortal god!, thought Vaibhav to himself, Sanskrit is a language that only exists as translation now. Takes a different thinking process, a higher poetic sense of the world to speak the tongue naturally. It's her way to assure her divine presence! Almost like forensics is my trait, no one thinks more technically than I do. Like any skill, like law....
Vaibhav started to breathe erratically, I do know the harbinger!, he said to himself as he searched the crowd for Chaitali Karmakar.
