Chapter 14 (unedited)

Selena's POV

My body trembled with fury and disbelief as Draco and I fled from Voldemort's headquarters, stunning Death Eaters so fast that they didn't even have time to shout in alarm. "Stupefy!" I cried, jerking my wand towards another Death Eater as he tried to block our path.

Draco yelled another spell and it veered off to my right, stunning another wizard who had been about to cast a spell at me. I looked behind Draco's shoulder, and yelled, "Petrificus Totalus!" It flew over his shoulder and hit another wizard before he could stun Draco.

Draco and I seemed to be in perfect symphony, fighting with each other like we've fought alongside for years. If it weren't for Draco, I was sure that I would've been dead by this point, but even though my entire body agrees, my soul is denying it. Somewhere deep in my soul, something else is keeping me alive. Something that I don't understand.

As we neared the exit of the building, more Death Eaters become aware of our presence. "Protego!" I yelled. An invisible force rebounded the spell that the wizard had shot, and his own spell propelled him into the air towards the left. As I struck down another wizard, Draco stood behind me, fighting the Death Eaters that were steadily gaining on our tail.

We ran towards the exit as soon as we saw a chance, shoving Death Eaters aside and striking them down with spells. Behind us, I could hear a deafening roar of Death Eaters, which meant that we didn't have a lot of time before we were overwhelmed. "Draco! There's no time!" I cried, sprinting pointlessly for the exit, which was almost almost 40 yards away. "We have to Disapparate!"

Draco heaved in deep breaths, barely able to catch up with me. His heavy steps pounded the floor as he raced forward, his fists clenched with effort. Even though I was ahead of him, it didn't even seem like I was using any effort. My feet bounced off the floor gracefully, as though I were just a gust of wind, taking a human form. I breezed past the walls with ease, and I didn't seem to be sweating, even the slightest bit.

Draco didn't answer my suggestion, but by the look on his face, I could tell that he wouldn't last much longer. Quickly, I thrust my wand behind me, yelling, "Incendio!" Flames burst into action, trickling down the hallway towards the approaching Death Eaters.

They were running so fast that they tumbled into one another to avoid stumbling into the blazing fire. One of the Death Eaters pointed at us, screaming, "They're getting away!"

I grabbed Draco's hand, closing my eyes in concentration. I heard one of the Death Eaters behind us use the Aguamenti charm, only managing to dissipate a section of the flames.  I racked my mind for a safe place we could stay before they catch up to us.

I felt a surge of power run through my veins, slithering from my arms into my own body. We started to fade from the room, the cold choking air closing in as I saw Death Eaters tinged with smoke, racing for us with their expressions beyond furious.

With a deafening crack, we disapparated from the room, just before a Death Eater could grasp his hands around my neck. With a large jerk, we were thrust into a new surroundings, staggering to and fro. My head pounded with a headache, my throat warm with an uncomfortable feeling. Ever since I had been imprisoned by Voldemort, I'd never had the privilege to train my magic, and apparating after such a long time felt exciting, but it would definitely need some work.

Draco and I were staring in a deserted lobby, which seemed like part of an old hotel. The lights flickered every so often, causing eerie shadows on the wall. Draco wheezed as he fought to catch his breath, not aware of his surroundings just yet. I stepped backwards from the wall I faced, trying to get closer to Draco. My lips quivered with fear as I scanned the lobby, standing next to Draco for support. As Draco's breathing began to slow down, he seemed to realize the crisis we were in.

I ran for the door and yanked on the handle, crying out in fear. It didn't budge as my face paled, kicking the door over and over again, in hopes of shattering the glass with the impacts. Clumsily, I reached for my wand and pointed it at the doors. "Alohomora!" I exclaimed. The doors refused to respond, staying still as I defeatedly looked back for Draco. But what I saw frightened me the most. Draco was gone.

"Draco?" I cried. "Draco?! I swear, this isn't funny!" I sobbed. I couldn't understand why I was panicking so much at the situation, as it wasn't anything worse than I'd ever dealt with. But this absolutely terrified me to the bone. It was the locked door, or the flickering lights, or even the mysterious disappearance of Draco. But a cold presence lurked beyond those walls, and I could feel that they were watching me, waiting for what I'd try to do.

"Selena," A voice echoed. Startled, I jumped into the air, whipping my head in the direction of the sound source. The voice sounded like a hundred blades, running the blade to make a wincing, sharp sound, but amplified by a thousand, echoing off walls and with a much lower pitch. And for just a second, I could see it's piercing, golden eyes, glinting with amusement as I gasped, paralyzed in my stance.

I collapsed on the floor in a heap, unable to unfreeze my joints. "Sweet dreams, Selena," It exclaimed, leaning closer as I felt my eyelids growing heavier by the second. Black spots started to form in various places, before all I could see was black.
