Chapter Five
"' ᏚᎢᎪY-ᎪᎢ-ᎻᎾᎷᎬ ᏚᎾN."

After the long flight, they finally made it to the resort. They were thankful that they were able to see some of the beautiful scenery on the way over from the airport. It was completely different than what they were used to.

As they chatted among themselves, a voice caught their attention. "Baby! Hi! Oh, my God!"

Mulan jumped into Hiccup's arms, hugging him tightly. They hadn't seen each other in over a week and it was killing the both of them. It felt great to finally hear each other's voice in person and actually touch each other.

Hiccup put her back down on her feet and kissed her.

"How was your trip?" Mulan asked, brushing her dark strands out of her face once they pulled apart.

"It was long, but good." Hiccup said, smiling at her.

Teddy softly smiled in the distance. He hadn't seen his sister this happy in a long time. He was glad that it was with Hiccup. The guy was nice and cool and could be occasionally funny when he wasn't trying too hard.

Kristoff glared at Teddy from behind. He had been glaring at him the entire trip starting from the airport. He glared at him while they were watching a movie on the plane, while they were just chatting, and even when Teddy was asleep.

"This is so absolutely beautiful. Thank you so much." Hiccup said, slightly glancing at Mulan. He was getting nervous and really needed her support. He wanted to make a good impression before the big day.

"Of course." Fa Zhou, her father, said.

"Ya know, between Teddy and me, you must be pretty excited. Pretty soon you'll have two doctors in the family." Hiccup chuckled, trying to make a joke. Mulan gently rubbed his arm, smiling.

But her father didn't even chuckle.

"You have to realize that in my country, we don't consider dentists to be real doctors." He scowled. He did not like Hiccup. In fact, he thought that he was completely wrong for his daughter. Hiccup was jumpy and always nervous.

"Dad." Mulan said, looking to the ground. She hated when her father would tear down Hiccup. Obviously it had been a while since he was in the U.S. It took years to become a dentist. It wasn't okay for just anyone to take up the career without training.

"Okay." Hiccup nodded. He just wanted to make Fa Zhou happy. He would do it in any literal way possible. Even if it meant letting the guy tear him down with every chance he got.

"Anyway, I have to go and talk to Teddy about his cello performance tonight." He said, beginning to walk away. "See you." He softly said to Mulan.

Once he was out of earshot, Hiccup turned and looked at Mulan. "Ouch."

"I'm so sorry." She apologized, rubbing his shoulder. She felt terrible that Hiccup had to put up with her father's unnecessary stubbornness.

Hiccup nodded off to the distance, keeping his voice low. "Your dad's kind of obsessed with your brother."

Mulan turned and looked at the scene. Her father was showing off Teddy, introducing him to people and clearly praising the young boy. "Teddy is my dad's prized possession." Mulan answered. "It's always been that way." She added.

Noticing that it didn't help Hiccup feel any better, she frowned and rubbed his shoulder again. "He'll warm up. I promise. Okay?" She said, looking into his green eyes.

"If you just fax it over to me, I'll pick it up from concierge." Kristoff said into the phone as he walked straight for the couple. "Okay. Thanks, Pa Pa. Bye-bye." He chuckled as he ended the call.

Hiccup braced himself for what nonsense Kristoff was about to spill out. "That was, uh, my dad. I'm a stay-at-home son." Kristoff explained to Mulan. She nodded her head as he continued. "We were discussing your wedding gift. He's sparing no expense."

"Oh, that's so unnecessary." Hiccup said. He really wasn't expecting Kristoff to get him a gift. And he also really didn't want it. Since it seemed to be coming from Kristoff, it was bound to be sketchy and definitely crossing a few moral borders.

"I've been, uh, meaning to ask. I noticed it is a fishing village." Kristoff smiled, looking at Mulan. "Is there a Long John Silver's on the island?"

Having already been warned about Kristoff from Hiccup, Mulan just played it off. "You know, no, I don't think so. I'm so sorry."

"But, we are actually serving some great fresh seafood." Hiccup said, hoping to keep Kristoff's enthusiasm about the island high.

"Better than Long John's?"

"Yes."

Kristoff paused, studying Hiccup for a few seconds. "I'll be the judge of that. Enjoy your evening."

"You too." Mulan said. As he walked away, he grabbed the drink from out of Mulan's hand. "Okay." She mumbled to Hiccup, letting him walk away with it.

Evening had set in. Everyone was gathered in the huge dining patio for the extravagant meal. Yellow lanterns hung around the patio, giving off a soft, warm glow. Teddy was main star, beautifully playing the cello for Hiccup and Mulan and the guests.

Hiccup looked over at his fiancée, gently smiling. The chords that Teddy was plucking and strumming were perfect for the night. Mulan smiled back at him, gently placing her hand on his knee.

The music began to swell, goosebumps rising on everyone's arms as they prepared for the grand, final chord.

Kristoff reached over and tapped Eugene's arm. He held his nose and gave a thumbs down, silently showing how he felt about Teddy's performance.

Rapunzel and Eugene rolled their eyes and went back to watching Teddy. He pulled the final chord, making everyone cheer and clap their hands in praise. He was greatly talented.

"All right." Hiccup clapped, a wide smile on his face. Teddy nodded his head in thanks.

Fa Zhou stood up, a proud smile on his face as he tapped his silverware to his wine glass. "Thank you, Teddy." He said once everyone quieted down. "The hands of a brilliant musician and one day, a great surgeon." He praised, but Teddy hardly smiled. Sure, he loved his father, but his approval soon lost its meaning.

"I admit it." Fa Zhou declared, moving past the performance. "When I first met Hic, I was not quite sold."

Hiccup chuckled, looking at Mulan. Everyone else in the crowd gave a soft chuckle. It was common for fathers to not like their daughter's boyfriends at first.

"He seemed unattractive. He lacked intelligence and imagination." Fa Zhou continued on. Jack scrunched his eyebrows, looking over at Hiccup. When was he going to get to the part when he realized he liked Hiccup? "He was missing that spark you look for in a man."

Hiccup looked down, painfully smiling. He felt awkward being called out in front of everyone like this. Mulan also looked down, her face slightly frowning. Why did her father have to do this to Hiccup? Especially in front of their family and friends?

"But then I look into Hic's eyes." Fa Zhou declared. "He reminded me of my sweet brother, Chaiyo."

Mulan and her mother sighed, glancing at each other. Hiccup pinched his lips together, knowing that wasn't a good sign. "For those of you who do not know, Chaiyo is learning-disabled and lives in a group home."

Kristoff laughed while everyone else awkwardly shuffled in their seats. This speech was not praising Hiccup at all. This was a slam and the worst kind. Hiccup was unable to defended himself as Mulan's father bashed him in front of everyone.

Hiccup looked down at his food, only able to smile. It was all he could do to distract himself from the embarrassment he felt. He wanted nothing more than to impress Mulan's father and it was clear he would never get it.

"But Chaiyo loves chok." Fa Zhou smiled. Eugene whispered to Rapunzel, confused about what was happening. "And that's when I realized. . . Hic is chok."

"What's chok?" Hiccup immediately whispered to Mulan, knowing it wasn't anything good.

"Chok is soft white rice in lukewarm water." Fa Zhou answered, knowing many of Hiccup's American friends wouldn't know what he was talking about. "It has no taste. We feed it to small baby and very old people."

Hiccup painfully looked around, not knowing what to do or say as Fa Zhou continued. "It is nourishment that everyone can digest. The world needs chok. Just as the world needs people like Hic."

Eugene glanced over at Hiccup, seeing his look of pain and suffering. He looked back at Fa Zhou, a hated growing in his heart. Sure, it was natural for a father-in-law to dislike his son-in-law, but not like this. They weren't supposed to publicly humiliate them in front of people like this.

Unable to control how he felt, Hiccup glared at Fa Zhou as he bit on the inside of his cheek. Fa Zhou gave a soft smile, staring into Hiccup's green eyes as he raised his wine glass. "To my sweet daughter and Hic. Congratulations."

"Hear, hear." Eugene immediately agreed before Fa Zhou could add anymore insulting things.

"Cheers, guys." Jack muttered, in shock of what was just said.

Everyone took a sip of their wine, all trying to process what was just said tonight. Kristoff wrapped his lips completely around the wine glass and chugged his wine.

"And now I believe that Teddy has something to say." Fa Zhou said.

Teddy rose from his seat and pulled down his suit. Kristoff reached out and touched him. "Sit down. I got this." He said. He pushed back his chair, standing up. Teddy glanced at his father. "Sit down, boy." Kristoff repeated.

Teddy slowly say back down, confused.

"That was, uh, a great speech, sir." Kristoff began. "I liked the comparisons between, uh, Hic and rice." He complimented, clearly not understanding that it was a slam at Hiccup.

Hiccup let out a sigh, staring at Kristoff. He didn't even know what to expect from this speech. Mulan looked at Hiccup then back at Kristoff. If she could only apologize for her father's words.

"I've also prepared a few words." Kristoff said, pulling out some cards from his back pocket. "'Hey, everybody. Here are some fun facts.'" He read. Jack and Elsa glanced at each other, afraid of what was happening. "'The population in Thailand is 63 million people. It is twice the size of Wyoming.'"

Rapunzel pulled up the strap of her shirt, glancing at Eugene. He tapped his chin, glancing at her then back at Kristoff. This was definitely a switch from what they just heard.

"'Its chief exports are textiles, footwear, and rice. Each year, approximately 13,000 people are killed in car accidents in Thailand. The climate is-'"

"Uh, Kristoff, uh. . ." Jack interrupted. "Kristoff, why don't you skip to the last card there, buddy?"

"Okay, sorry." Kristoff said, beginning to shuffle through the cards. He took a deep breath and looked around once he reached the end of his cards. "'None of you know Hic like I do.'" He read. He looked up and began pointing at people. "Not you. Not you. Not you. Not you. Not nobody knows Hic like I do." He declared.

Hic and Mulan gently smiled to each other, trying to keep their chuckles to themselves. "No one." Kristoff said then looked back at his cards. "'I can't even tell you what we've been through because we made a pact more important than blood.'"

Eugene smiled and nodded his head, looking at Hiccup. At least someone here was spilling about Hiccup from the heart, showing that he was a good guy. Hiccup nodded his head at Eugene, a smile on his face as well. Maybe it wasn't so bad that Kristoff was along.

"What I can tell you is this: This is not Hic's first marriage."

Eugene immediately snapped his head to look at Kristoff. Hiccup looked down, knowing that Kristoff would ruin the awesome speech somehow.

"'There was a whore in Las Vegas a couple of years ago--"

Eugene immediately jumped up from his seat, cutting Kristoff off.

"All right, time's up. You can sit down, bud. You can sit down." Eugene quickly whispered, patting Kristoff's shoulder. Eugene had to save Hiccup from having to explain this to everyone. Eugene was going to stop it as best as he could.

Jack shuffled in his seat, looking at Elsa as the crowd began to murmur.

"It was good. I did good, though." Kristoff softly said.

"Oh, God, you killed it." Eugene lied with a smile.

"Okay, thanks, Eugene."

"Sit down. Yeah." He said, making sure Kristoff sat down.

Jack began clapping, trying to clear the air. Everyone clapped along, unsure what was really happening.

"In your face." Kristoff smirked, leaning over to Teddy.
