Chapter Three
"ᏔᎾᏌᏞᎠ Ꭺ ᏟᏌᏢᏟᎪKᎬ KᏆᏞᏞ YᎾᏌ?"
"Guys, I can't tell you how much this means. Kristoff's been waiting for the invite ever since he got wind of the wedding." Pete said, leading the group through the house.
"I'm sure he has." Hiccup said.
"Yeah, he's been standing outside by the mailbox every day." Pete quietly added with a soft sigh. He felt bad for Kristoff. Pete was able to understand why Hiccup didn't want to invite him to the wedding, but he felt terrible that Kristoff wasn't able to understand. Kristoff was just too unpredictable.
"Wow, that's rough." Eugene said, glancing around at the group.
"Yeah. I, uh . . ." Pete trailed as they arrived outside of Kristoff's door. "I'm not quite sure he ever really left Vegas, you know? He really needs this." Pete said. Jack looked over his shoulder, giving Hiccup a look as Pete knocked on the door.
"What?" Kristoff asked.
"Sweetie, it's Pa Pa. You have visitors." Pete said. He turned and looked at the group. "Go in slowly, give him a chance to acclimate." He advised like Kristoff was some pet.
Kristoff opened the door, glaring to see who came to bother him. "Hey, Kristoff." Jack greeted.
A soft smile grew on Kristoff's face as he looked at his best friends in front of him. He hadn't seen some of them in a few years. "Hey, guys." He held onto the doorway. "Hey, Eugene."
"Hey, bud." Eugene grinned. Hiccup was still unsure. He really didn't want Kristoff there. Not mention Kristoff didn't seem too enthused to see him in particular.
Kristoff glanced at his father then his friends. "Uh--Uh, you guys wanna come in?" He stammered, unsure where to really look, almost like a child.
"Sure." Jack smiled.
"Yeah, absolutely." Eugene nodded.
Jack led the group, entering the room first. "Hey." He said, patting Kristoff's back.
"Hey." He quickly replied, doing the same.
"Hey." Eugene repeated, slapping his back too.
"Hey." Kristoff nodded, then pulled him in for a long hug. He really missed Eugene the most. "Hey, Hic." He smiled, looking at the last member of their friend group.
Pete smiled, glad that his son was getting along good. "Okay. See you on the court in half--"
Kristoff slammed the door on his face and walked away. The guys walked around, looking at all of the posters Kristoff had hanging up. It was almost like he had never really grew up. The posters mostly involved superheroes and villains.
"Pretty cool room, Kristoff." Eugene said.
"Oh, thanks, Eugene. My dad pays my rent." He quickly replied, shuffling around his room. He was glad that they liked his taste in decorating.
"Kristoff, what the fuck?" Jack asked, rushing over to a corner of the room. Everyone else quickly followed, wondering what Jack had seen. In front of them were huge pictures on his wall. "We were supposed to delete these. You made a promise." He scolded.
Great. Now Hiccup was never ever going to let him come. Kristoff had plastered huge photos of him ripping out his tooth and Merida stripping on him. Kristoff was literally not helping himself at all.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. What the hell?" Hiccup scoffed, gesturing to the photos from Vegas. "I'm not cool with this at all. You can't have these."
Eugene laughed, walking closer to the photos. He couldn't believe Kristoff had gone and gotten these photos enlarged, framed, and hung on his wall. This man was crazy.
"Chillax, Hic. Nobody ever comes in here." Kristoff waved away with a smile as he sat at his desk.
"Total violation of trust." Hiccup continued.
Kristoff leaned forward, speaking into an intercom. "Mother, I'm done with my lunch. It's just sitting here."
The intercom beeped. "Sorry, honey. I'll be right up." She said.
Eugene leaned against the wall seeing what other photos Kristoff had when one caught his eye. One of the men in the photos looked eerily familiar. Eugene pulled it off the wall, holding it in his hands to get a better look.
"I can't believe you guys stopped by. This is really cool." Kristoff smiled at them.
"Wait a second. Kris, is that Mr. Shang?" Eugene asked, holding the photo up.
"Yeah. We still keep in touch." He nodded with a smile.
"Hic." Eugene said, holding the photo up for him to see. Jack would have no idea who Shang was. But Hiccup vividly remembered him and Eugene knew this cause a few days after the wedding had died down, they had talked about Shang, wondering where he had gone. It was a subject they only touched when they were alone.
"Shang?" Hiccup asked, turning to look at Kristoff. "The guy that kidnapped us?"
"He didn't kidnap us. He kidnapped Black Jack. Remember? It was a whole big misunderstanding. He's actually quite charming." Kristoff said, slightly twisting in his chair. He couldn't see what the problem was. It was just a guy they had met in Vegas. They thought he was some lucky charm.
Jack rubbed his hand on his chin as Hiccup stared at Kristoff in shock. Shang was the guy who literally tried to kill them in the desert. He made them go get money for Jack when there was literally no purpose.
"Kristoff, he's a criminal." Hiccup said as the door opened.
"Excuse me, boys." Kristoff's mother said, gliding between them.
"Hi, Linda." Jack smiled, glad to see her.
"Hi, Jackie." She waved with a smile. She had like him since Elsa first brought him home.
"I guess we don't do dessert anymore. I didn't get that memo." Kristoff snapped, giving his mother his plates and his drink with a glare. She was totally embarrassing him in front of his friends. Who just leaves dishes around?
"Well, I'm sorry, darling. I'll be right back." She said. She turned on her heels and rushed out the door to leave them alone.
"Would a cupcake kill you?" Kristoff added before she exited the room. Jack dropped his jaw, shaking his head. What was wrong with him?
"You know, I don't think this was a good idea." Hiccup softly said to Jack.
But Jack wasn't going to let Hiccup come here and leave. No, they had a reason to be here and Hiccup was going to fulfill his side of the deal.
"Uh, Kristoff, we have a little surprise for you." Jack said, ignoring his friend. He placed a hand on Hiccup's shoulder to stop him from running away. "Hic would like to invite you to his wedding."
"Well, only if you're not busy." Hiccup shrugged. He prayed that Kristoff would turn him down, though he knew he wouldn't.
"Hic." Eugene scolded, looking at him. Did he have to torture the poor guy? He didn't have to make him feel like such a burden. It was just a wedding. It wasn't that big of a deal.
"Well, maybe the Jonas Brothers are in town." Hiccup replied, his voice tense. He really didn't want Kristoff along. There was so much that could go wrong with him there.
"No, they're in Raleigh-Durham that weekend." Kristoff quickly answered. He had been waiting for this invite.
Jack looked back at Hiccup, who nodded his head and hummed. Damn it.
"Are you being serious, Hic? You're inviting me?" Kristoff asked, unable to tell that Hiccup was literally being forced to invite him.
Hiccup paused, staring at him. Was he really going to invite the guy that had roofied them? The guy that was still keeping in touch with Shang. The guy that had taken their photos and plastered them on his wall.
Jack gently slapped Hiccup's shoulder. "Yeah, why not? Could be fun, right?" Hiccup smiled, shrugging his shoulder. If he had a choice, he would say no. But he was doing this for Jack. Also because he felt bad for Kristoff.
Kristoff nodded and looked down. Maybe he shouldn't go. He didn't really want to go by himself. "Eugene, are you going?" He asked, looking up.
"Of course." Eugene replied, smiling.
"Then it will be fun." Kristoff said. Suddenly, he opened his mini fridge and dug around. He whipped out a syringe and stabbed himself in the upper thigh, giving himself a shot.
"Ah!" Hiccup cringed, scrunching his face as Jack gasped.
"Whoa, what the fuck are you doing, man?" Eugene asked, his jaw hanging open.
Kristoff took a deep breath then pulled out the needle. "It's my immunizations. This is the last day I can do it." He replied.
"That's supposed to be done by a registered nurse." Hiccup said, goosebumps growing on his arms. The idea of someone, especially Kristoff, giving themselves a shot just made his whole body shutter.
"I am a nurse. I'm just not registered." Kristoff said, holding up the needle. He placed it on his desk and a thought came to his head. "Oh, Hic, look at this." He said, opening his desk drawer.
He began winding up a toy, but no one could see what it was. "I bought this because I thought you." He smiled. He placed a pair of chattering teeth on desk, the noise echoing in the room. The reason Kristoff thought of him was because a tooth was missing on this pair.
Hiccup glared, fuming on the inside as the teeth chattered on the desk. The others glanced at him, waiting to see if he would blow his top. Thankfully, Hiccup was able to keep under control.
It helped that he could mentally picture himself punching Kristoff, who currently had a shit eating grin plastered on his face.
