The Hands That Hurt Us- Part 6

The members ended up going to a small hole in the wall pizza place and sat around a large table. They ordered three different large topping pizzas to share and practically devoured it, except Jungkook who took a piece and played with it more than ate it.

"If you don't want pizza you can always order something else, want to try my wings I also ordered?" Jin shoved it right up to Jungkook's mouth hoping the gesture would make his maknae actually eat it.

"I'm just really not all that hungry, but thanks hyung."

"That's what worries us though you usually eat twice your body weight every meal and you haven't eaten much lately. Please just a few bites at least?" Jimin asked. "And water." He took Jungkook's cup of water and scooted it closer towards the boy.

Jungkook looked at his hyungs and saw the pleading looks on all their faces. "Okay."

He forced down some bites of pizza and drank some water but that was all he could stomach before feeling nauseous.

Taehyung ruffled Jungkook's hair and smiled at him. "There it is!"

Jungkook gave a smile back before slipping into his own thoughts while he drowned out the conversation around him. Without realizing it he was dozing off at the table.

Yoongi pointed to Jungkook. "We should probably get going. The baby needs a nap," he teased.

The rest of the members laughed and then Hobi woke him up and they headed home. When they arrived home Jungkook headed straight for his bed to sleep. It truly was concerning everyone how much he was sleeping lately. Taehyung followed behind him and decided he could use a nap too, and being in a cuddly mood he found himself in Jungkook's bed rather than his own.

Namjoon and Hobi found places on the couches in their living room while Jin and Yoongi grabbed something to drink from the kitchen. Jimin decided he was still hungry and made himself a small sandwich before sitting down at the kitchen table.

Namjoon was reading a psychology book he previously bought, one of many that he'd read. This one had to do with abnormal psychology and mental disorders. He had bought it when he realized Jungkook had been acting weird.

He didn't want to put any labels on his youngest, but he had read far enough through the book to realize his maknae was definitely dealing with some kind of anxiety disorder, or maybe a mood disorder, like being bipolar?

Namjoon wasn't too sure. He just knew it was something. Something that had come out of nowhere, at that. He didn't even start acting weird until about a week ago, after all. He was reading a section about childhood trauma's and how they lead to disorders, or how trauma in your adult life can also lead to disorders. It wasn't really making sense to him because he knew Jungkook hadn't suffered any kind of trauma. He got to a list of 'triggers' and found all of them quite concerning. "Jin hyung," Namjoon started. "Hm?" Jin asked from the kitchen.

"Do you think we either uhm...hmm..." Namjoon glanced at the passage he was reading even harder. "Abuse or neglect Jungkook?"

He looked up from the book to meet his hyung's eyes, who looked confused. Before Jin could even answer, with a mouth full of sandwich Jimin immediately pointed at Yoongi without saying anything.

"Why are you pointing at Yoongi?" Jin asked, even more confused.

Yoongi was standing at the fridge. "Yeah, why are you pointing at Yoongi?" he asked sarcastically. "I don't abuse him. I'm not that kind of hyung. I would never hurt him and you know that."

Jimin finally swallowed his bite of sandwich. "I think you can come off as a bit neglectful."

"How?" Yoongi crossed his arms, taking a defensive stance.

"I mean sometimes you don't want to be bothered and you won't hug him. And you don't tell him you love him or anything," Jimin stated.

"That's not neglect," Hobi spoke up from the couch. "That's just Yoongi," he teased.

Jimin shrugged. "Hmm, yeah I guess you're right."

Yoongi was suddenly feeling quite defensive, "Just because I don't like hugs or say I love him doesn't mean I don't love him! I'm just not vocal about it Jimin!"

Jimin threw his hands up in surrender. "Okay, sorry! Jeez, hyung!" He continued eating his sandwich.

Jin walked over to Namjoon. "I don't think we are like that to him. We all absolutely cherish that boy and he knows it. Why would you think such a thing?"

"I don't think it, this book just says a lot of anxiety and stuff comes from trauma like abuse or neglect and he has some of the same symptoms like always being tired and having new unusual fears and stuff."

"Probably just a coincidence or something," Jin replied.

Namjoon shrugged in agreement and continued on with his book.

A few minutes later Taehyung made his way out of his room and grabbed a glass of water.

"Is Jungkook still asleep?" Yoongi asked.

"Mhm," Taehyung replied. The second maknae was apparently also still basically asleep. Yoongi had asked because Jimin's little comment had been nagging away at him making him feel extremely guilty.

What if it does have to do with me? Although I've always been reserved and he's never had a problem. Maybe I've done something recently that has him under the impression I don't care about him? Of course I care about him! Maybe he's acting like this for more attention from me?

Yoongi really wanted to talk to Jungkook about it, as awkward as it'd be considering he hated expressing his feelings and tried to avoid it as much as possible. But maybe that is the problem? He was never one to have these "heart to heart" conversations. He sat down at the table with his drink and stared at the wall, trying to think of how exactly to go about wording everything he wanted to say once his maknae woke up.

Some time passed when Jungkook woke up to a tiny knock on his door. "Yeah?" he asked still half asleep. Hobi walked in, holding Jungkook's sock that was in the laundry, the sock he was wearing at practice the other day, the sock that had been stained with blood.

"Is this blood? Did you hurt your foot?" Hobi knew it was Jungkook's sock because he was the only member crazy enough to wear those damn toe socks.

Jungkook froze, he didn't want his hyung checking his feet. He didn't have enough time to think of an explanation for the giant bruise lining the bottom of his foot.

"No, I stepped in juice," Jungkook lied. He felt like an idiot for putting his sock in the shared laundry before he realized he had only done it because it was his turn to do laundry. "Hyung today was my laundry day, what are you doing?"

"I was bored and figured you needed sleep so thought I'd just do it. What kind of juice did you step in?" Hobi asked curiously.

"Uh, some kind of berry juice I accidentally spilled," Jungkook lied again.

"Smooth one," Hobi laughed.

His hyung turned and left down the hall mumbling something about how he knew a trick to get stains out of white fabric, something he'd learned from his older sister.

Suddenly, Yoongi popped his head in the maknae's door. "Hey, do you have a minute?" he asked nervously.

Jungkook wanted to tell him no, he just wanted to keep sleeping, but he felt too bad about doing that. "Sure."

Yoongi stepped in and closed the door behind him, making his way to Jungkook's bed and sitting beside him.

"So I was just wondering if you uh..." Yoongi let out a nervous laugh, he was so bad at this. He continued, "I mean I just wanted to know if like...uh..."

"Out with it, you're making me nervous," Jungkook said.

Yoongi let out a deep breath. "I just wanted to know if you think I'm like...abusive to you. Or not abusive but neglectful to you...or something like that?"

Jungkook stared at him with the most confused expression a person could make. "Excuse me, what?"

"Well I just mean, Namjoonie is reading this psychology book about mental health or whatever and he noticed you are showing some symptoms of abuse or neglect or whatever because of your anxiety. And uh, well Jimin seems to think maybe it's because of me, maybe?" Yoongi nervously scratched the back of his neck as he looked down at his maknae. His heart was racing. He really hoped Jungkook didn't think of him as some kind of monster.

To his surprise, Jungkook started laughing. "Jimin hyung is so over-dramatic, I swear!" he told Yoongi. "Why does Jimin think you, of all people, fit that description?"

Jungkook was honestly shocked that such a conversation had even taken place. All of his hyungs were the best people he'd ever met. He thought maybe this was some kind of funny dream he was having.

"He said because I don't really express my love for you verbally and don't like hugs," Yoongi told him.

Jungkook chuckled again. " That's just how you are. I know you love me , you just show it in other ways. Don't worry about it hyung, you haven't done anything wrong."

Yoongi felt a big weight lift off his shoulders knowing he wasn't the problem, but then that still left the big question of what is the problem?

"Okay, well, good then. I don't want you to think of me as neglectful or anything. I'd like to think I take pretty good care of you and uh...I do care about you and love you."

As much as Yoongi wanted to vomit saying it, it didn't make it any less true. He felt his cheeks turn pink.

Jungkook smiled up at him, chuckling.

"Oh and uh, here..." Yoongi hesitated before leaning down and hugging his maknae.

Jungkook embraced it, and they ended up hugging for way longer than anticipated. They both found themselves not really wanting to let go. While Yoongi felt the weight off his own shoulders, Jungkook suddenly felt the weight of guilt instead. He didn't want his hyungs to start questioning themselves, and definitely not each other, about his mental state lately. It was nobody's fault. Nobody's fault but manager Shik's, that is.

Jungkook closed his eyes while still in his hyungs arms and found himself slowly falling asleep again. He was warm here. He was safe here.

Yoongi felt the youngers body start going limp in his arms. "Aish, we should get you energy drinks or something," Yoongi whispered as he slowly dropped Jungkook back onto the mattress. He stared at him for a moment, grateful that they were able to have this conversation. He decided he didn't want to go just yet and decided to stay sitting in the bed while the boy slept.

He was playing on his phone for a while when his attention was caught by Jungkook starting to whimper in his sleep.

Huh?

He stared at Jungkook, who started to toss and turn a little bit in the bed and continued to whimper although he showed no signs of waking up. Yoongi took his hand and placed it on Jungkook's chest, hoping it would comfort him in some way, he became a bit more concerned when he could feel Jungkook's heart racing.

Jungkook suddenly made a scared face and whispered a faint, "No."

Yoongi could feel his heart racing faster and faster.

"Hey, bunny you're alright," Yoongi whispered gently.

Jungkook shifted in his sleep again. "Please stop it."

"Jungkook?" Yoongi tried to shake him a little bit in an attempt to wake him up.

"Don't," Jungkook whimpered. His eyes were still closed.

"Hey, Kookie, wake up. It's just a bad dream." Yoongi's attempts to shake him awake were proving unsuccessful. Instead, tears started coming out of Jungkook's closed eyes.

"No, bunny. Just wake up, okay?" Yoongi leaned in closer to his ear.

"Please don't hurt him." Jungkook continued to cry.

"You're scaring hyung, Kook-ah. Nobody is getting hurt. You gotta wake up for me please." Yoongi felt his own heart start racing, he wondered what kind of nightmare Jungkook was having. Whatever it was was clearly scary for the boy. He didn't know why he wouldn't wake up.

Suddenly, Jungkook started gagging.

"What the hell?" Yoongi said out loud. He watched as Jungkook gagged and reached towards his own throat. Yoongi panicked wondering if maybe he was choking on something, but what would he be choking on? He wasn't eating anything, he'd been sleeping. Is he having an allergic reaction? But he's not allergic to anything?

Yoongi could tell Jungkook was choking in his sleep but he couldn't figure out why, and how could he still be asleep if he was having trouble breathing? He remembered some training he'd attended about choking long ago where you're supposed to look for a blocked airway, he frantically grabbed Jungkook's face and pried his mouth open to look in it, but there was nothing there. The maknae's neck veins looked like they were going to pop.

Yoongi ran to the bedroom door in a panic. "Help! Jungkook is choking!" he screamed through the house.

Immediately all the members ran into the room. Jin immediately started inspecting Jungkook and also looked in his mouth. "What is he choking on?!" Jin asked in a panic.

"I don't know! He was having a nightmare, or IS having one. He's still asleep! But he's choking in his sleep for some reason!" Yoongi yelled.

Jin sat Jungkook up against him, he wrapped his arms around him prepared to start the heimlich maneuver if he needed to.

However, the youngest stopped gagging and started screaming instead.

"Seriously, what the fuck?!" Jimin yelled, he was also panicking. They all were. The other members were quiet because they were scared seeing Jungkook like this.

Taehyung and Hobi were holding each other crying. Jin felt like he didn't have a choice when it came to having to be the brave one. He was the oldest.

"Maknae, wake up!" Jin screamed.

Jungkook started shaking in his arms.

"Wake up!" Jin yelled louder.

Jungkook's eyes shot open and his body was tense yet shaking at the same time. He was gasping for air, still having trouble breathing. Tears were dripping down his face. Jin hugged him from behind even tighter and the maknae let out an audible cry before letting himself sink back into his hyungs arms.

He covered his face with his hands and began sobbing. "Hey you're alright, you're alright," Jin cooed.

"Can you breathe okay?" Yoongi asked, grabbing his hand and holding it. Everyone made their way to surround him on the bed. Jungkook was still hyperventilating and crying, but shook his head yes.

"What the hell happened?" Taehyung asked, wiping away his own tears.

"Bad dream," Jungkook mumbled quietly keeping his face down. He could feel Jin's heartbeat against his back and it was helping him calm down. He was finally able to stable his breathing.

"What was it about?" Hobi asked concerned.

Jungkook didn't know what to tell them. He knew they wouldn't let him get away with not telling them what his nightmare was about, but he knew he couldn't tell them the truth about it either. He panicked while he tried to come up with a story. He wasn't about to tell them that in his nightmare, manager Shik had them all locked in the dance studio. He was holding Jungkook while pointing a gun at the rest of them, then proceeded to shoot each one of them before trying to strangle him to death.

More tears flooded out of his eyes. "Someone broke into our house and we were being robbed," he lied.

"What'd the robber do?" Namjoon asked.

"Joonie, just leave it alone," Yoongi demanded. He didn't really see the point in making the maknae relive it.

Namjoon ignored him and pried. "Well?" He was persistent because the book he read also talked about different types of dreams and their meanings.

"He broke in and stole stuff and was hurting everyone."

"How?" Namjoon asked.

"He had a gun and shot you all and choked me."

At least that part of the dream was true. He sunk back further into Jin.

"Alright, that's enough," Jin told Namjoon.

Namjoon squeezed Jungkook's knee. "Damn, that is scary. It was just a dream though. Nobody is breaking in. Even if someone did I've been working out a lot. Nobody else's gun can handle these guns." Namjoon flexed his arm muscles and made everyone laugh.

Jungkook chuckled, and realized how strong Namjoon truly did look lately. He wished his hyung could save him somehow.

Jimin leaned down and wrapped his arm around Jungkook's shoulders gesturing for him to stand up. "Come out to the kitchen and get some water. You should spend some time with us. It doesn't seem like sleeping is doing you all that much good right now."

He knew Jimin was right. He actually didn't want to be alone right now, his nightmare made him want to cling to every single one of them forever.

Everyone made their way back out into the living room and kitchen and Jungkook walked awkwardly close to whoever was around him. He followed Jimin all around the kitchen while his hyung cleaned up the small lunch he had made.

Namjoon had his book open again and was searching for that dream meanings page. He found one about being hurt in a dream, You feel emotionally hurt, damaged, or fearful. You may be worried about your physical health or someone else's. You feel at risk and it may represent a wish that someone would go away.

Namjoon frowned, he didn't understand it. To all their knowledge, nobody was hurting their maknae. Yoongi already told him before that there was nothing bad going around online about the kid, he had looked into it already when he had his own suspicions. He felt helpless. He didn't know any possible way to help the youngest if he had no idea what the root problem was in the first place. He'd already tried asking Jungkook himself and Jungkook always just said he was fine or he doesn't know. He liked to think Jungkook wouldn't lie to him about that.

Yet all of his symptoms matched the same as the ones to trauma response which just made Namjoon feel even worse. He thought about possibly asking Jungkook if he'd like to go to therapy or something...

but he wasn't ready to start that conversation yet.
