The Hands That Hurt Us- Part 22

"You hear that Jungkookie?!" Hobi shouted, "We're going to Hawaii! So cheer up now!"

Jungkook couldn't understand why manager Shik hadn't hurt Namjoon. He'd threatened plenty of times that if he ever messed up a performance, one of his hyungs would pay for it. And he messed up. But Shik didn't hurt his hyung as far as he could tell.

Jungkook wiped his tears, he was starting to calm down now. "Wh-why?"

"He said we are going to film a show. He wants us to bring GoPro's and cameras and vlog there so it can be turned into episodes that he wants the company to air on TV."

"That's cool!" Jimin said while clapping. He turned back to his maknae. "Doesn't that sound like it will be fun?!"

Jungkook knew there was only one thing that would determine if this little vacation would be fun or not.

"Is he coming with us too?" Jungkook asked Namjoon.

"No. He said he has more stuff to do here while we are away. But he needs us to head out as soon as possible so we have to start packing tomorrow." Namjoon went over and grabbed Jungkook's hand, helping him stand up."I think this will be really good for you." He wiped more of Jungkook's tears away.

"Me too," Yoongi added as he patted Jungkook's back.

Jin pulled Jungkook into a hug and held him tightly while Jungkook finished calming down. It was hard for him to be excited about a vacation when his youngest was this upset over something he saw as pretty minor. He wished he could take the bad thoughts away, whatever they were.

Jin backed away and held Jungkook's arms. "Will you be alright?" He asked with a voice still full of concern.

Jungkook nodded his head yes. He was starting to wonder if maybe his manager was starting to change for the better or not. It seemed like a long shot, but his manager hadn't scolded or hurt him in two weeks. The man didn't hurt anyone else for his mistakes. He thought maybe at some point along the way he'd actually done something to make Shik happy and the man didn't hate him so much anymore. Maybe for once he's actually proud of us, of me? We've been working really hard.

Once they all got out of their performance clothes they headed home and decided to crash early. They needed to wake up early to start packing for their trip. The members were happy to see Jungkook excited to go. They hadn't seen him excited about anything in a long time.

In the morning, Jungkook kept asking Hobi if he should pack this or that and Hobi thought it was cute how his maknae kept coming to him for fashion advice. He wanted to look good for the episodes that would be coming out. All of the members were excited, this was something completely new for them. They'd been on vacation before but never got to vlog or record for a show.

Jin was a little bit nervous about it. He didn't know what to expect from Jungkook while they were out recording and he didn't want the cameras to catch him doing or saying anything concerning. Yet Jin figured since they were going alone they could just delete things off the cameras if they needed to.

"Why do you think he wants us to put out a show so suddenly?" Jimin asked Namjoon.

"I don't know. Maybe as part of our promotional period?"

"Or to make up for lost money," Yoongi added in.

Jimin and Namjoon shrugged.

"Who cares, it's Hawaii!" Taehyung replied as he tried on different Hawaiian shirts.

"Are we all ready? We have to be at the airport soon!" Hobi yelled throughout the house. Everyone quickly gathered the rest of their things. Namjoon ran to grab a few more of his psychology books to bring with him. He knew there'd be plenty of time for leisure reading.

At the airport Jungkook tensed up when he saw Shik waiting for them to arrive.

"I thought you said he wasn't coming?" Jungkook asked in a slight panic.

"He's not," Namjoon informed.

"So why is he here?"

"Probably to make sure we get on the plane okay or something. He's our manager Jungkook. He's going to be places we go." Namjoon ruffled the youngers hair.

Everyone got out of the car and made their way into the airport. They met up with Shik and their manager had requested they all take pictures and videos with him before they were off. Jungkook was relieved when Shik explained he was in fact only stopping by to make sure they left without any trouble. As they were leaving Jungkook overheard Shik talking to reporters and doing a small interview.

"It's the least I could do for this group. They have been working so hard lately. All of them. They deserve this vacation. They'll also be preparing a special surprise for ARMY while away. I came to make sure they left safely, because that's top priority for me. They're more than just my employees but they're like my family. I really appreciate them. I have nothing but nice things to say."

Jungkook didn't understand why his manager was saying things like that to reporters. He really is proud of us?  Why? What is different now? What did I do differently this time around to make him so happy?

Although it seemed strange to him, Jungkook didn't want to take it forgranted either. Shik was being nice. That's all he could ever ask for. He also wondered why Shik wanted to be so involved with publicity lately. He could have easily not talked to the reporters but he seemed almost desperate to have that small interview. Shik always seemed like a more behind the scenes kind of guy.

On the plane the first thing everyone saw on their phones were countless posts of them at the airport and the news video of Shik's little speech. Jungkook wasn't too sure how he felt about his managers positive public persona. Sure the man hadn't hurt him in a while but that didn't mean he was forgiven. Shik had done more than enough damage already that nobody even knew about. He didn't think his boss quite deserved such positive attention. Everyone seemed to be loving the guy lately because of all he was doing with BTS. He doesn't deserve it.

"What's wrong?" Yoongi asked as he came over to sit next to Jungkook.

"Huh?"

"Why do you look sad?"

Jungkook hadn't realized he had been frowning while looking at all the news on his phone.

"Oh, uh...I'm just tired hyung. All our work lately and waking up early and stuff."

Yoongi put a blanket over the both of them and told his maknae to nap, they had a long flight ahead of them.

After almost an entire day of flying they finally landed in Hawaii.

"We're here!" Namjoon shouted. "I would just like to announce one rule that I think will be extremely important on this trip."

Everyone listened carefully.

"I don't want Jungkook to be alone at any point during this trip. Buddy system with him wherever we go. He's clumsy enough at home when he's by himself, the last thing we need is for him to get hurt while in a completely different country."

The members looked to Jungkook to see his reaction and to their surprise he didn't put up a fight about it. He just shrugged and said that was fine with him. He loved his hyungs so he didn't mind. He actually quite preferred it. He was safe with them.

They took a taxi from the airport to the place they'd be staying. It was a giant beautiful house right along the beach. The members were completely in awe over how on earth their manager was able to swing a place so nice and fancy.

"This will be a fun week," Jimin shouted excitedly as they all ran around to explore.

While choosing rooms Jin suggested that Yoongi share a room with Jungkook in case the boy had night terrors while there.

"Why do I always have to lose sleep? Why can't someone else do it?" Yoongi scoffed in a joking manner.

"You're the best at it," Taehyung informed his hyung.

Yoongi suddenly felt prideful. "Yeah, yeah I guess I am!"

Jungkook didn't care who he shared his room with but he did feel bad that his night terrors always left Yoongi having to pull him out of his terrors. If I'm lucky maybe I won't have any here. He actually hadn't had any since the last time his manager had beat him so he figured he'd be fine.

They all got their GoPro's ready and ventured out for the day recording all they could. Hours flew by before they realized maybe they even had too much footage. They were glad they weren't the ones who actually had to edit everything, they were extremely thankful for their staff back home who took care of those sort of things. The night ended on a good note and in their exhaustion nobody even made it to their own rooms to sleep.

They ended up all sleeping in the living room where there was an abundance of couches for everyone to fit on. The next couple days had been the same. They had fun recording for a while before deciding there was enough footage for the day. While walking around the streets of Hawaii Jungkook was surprised when he got a text and saw it was from Shik.

Manager Man Shik: How is my favorite maknae? Hope you're having fun >:]

He quickly deleted the text and shoved his phone back in his pocket. He felt his heart start to pound against his chest a bit. The text made him nervous although he wasn't sure why. Why did he use that emoji? Why did he only text me? Calm down Jungkook he only asked how you were doing! But why? He's far away, who cares!

His anxious thoughts made him unaware of what was going on around him until he felt Hobi grabbing his arm and pulling it down. He'd been scratching himself again. "Are you okay? What's wrong?"

The rest of the members turned to look at them.

"I-yeah...I just don't feel very good," the maknae lied.

"Oh noo," Jimin pouted, "What doesn't feel good?"

"Uhm, my stomach?" In a way he wasn't actually lying, his anxiety was starting to make his stomach hurt.

Jin gripped his shirt and started pulling him in the direction of the house. "Come on, I'll take you home."

"It's okay. I'll be fine hyung."

"No Jungkook. We're going home. I don't think we should risk you getting sick in public. And if you're sick, I want you resting before you hurt yourself somehow."

The members agreed that Jin had a point. Jin told them to go keep having fun for a while, he didn't mind bringing Jungkook back early. Jungkook gave up his protest while Jin dragged him back to the house and pushed him down onto the couch. His hyung found a first aid kit they'd bought and took out a thermometer and shoved it into Jungkook's mouth.

"It's 101 degrees F. Any idea how you got sick?" Jin asked concerned. He absolutely hated when Jungkook got sick which happened way too often lately.

"No idea hyung." Jungkook wasn't too sure why he had a fever but he felt like maybe his anxiety was just making his body overheat. The text from his manager was still sending him down a panicked spiral. Jin gestured for him to take his shirt off and lay back on the couch. He turned a fan on and grabbed two ice packs. He went over and placed one on Jungkook's chest and one on his forehead. Jin was startled when he saw Jungkook start to cry.

"Woah woah woah. Is it that bad?" Jin knelt down next to him.

"I'm fine," his maknae sniffled. He wasn't crying because he was sick. He was crying because he was scared and on top of that he felt stupid for feeling scared. It frustrated him that a stupid little text message from his manager, that wasn't even all that threatening, could still scare him. He couldn't control it either. The tears came out automatically. It almost seemed like a reflex at this point.

"Tell you what, hyung will make you his famous soup!" Jin got up and ran to the kitchen which was connected to the living room.

Jungkook lay there trying to take deep breaths. He was having such a good vacation and wished his manager could have just left him alone. He wondered why out of all of them the man didn't just ask someone else how the vacation was going. When his hyung returned with the soup he claimed he wasn't hungry, Jin left it on the table for him anyway.

When the members got back that night they found Jin watching TV and Jungkook fast asleep on the couch with ice packs all over him.

"How is he?" Taehyung asked.

"He had a fever but it went down. He was crying though. His stomach must have really hurt."

"Maybe it was something he ate. That lobster we had for lunch didn't sit all too well with me either," Jimin informed.

Jin shrugged. "Maybe. He should be fine though."

"If he doesn't freeze to death first, hyung. This is too many ice packs." Yoongi went over and removed four out of the six that Jin had randomly placed all over Jungkook's body. Jin had done it to be helpful but he also did it because he thought it'd be funny.

Their maknae finally woke up to find everyone gathered around him watching a movie. He watched the TV for a few minutes before making out that they were watching some movie about a mafia boss who treated his employees like complete garbage. The mafia boss would constantly beat the hell out of the people who worked for him whenever they didn't please him.

"Imagine having to work for someone like that," Namjoon said to the others.

"I'd kill him," said Yoongi.

"Why do people even stick around and work for people who do stuff like that to them?" Jimin asked.

"Who knows. Maybe for the money?" Jin replied.

"Well if we worked for someone like that I'm sorry guys but I'd be out," said Taehyung.

"If we worked for someone like that, if I ever saw them put a hand on any of you I'd be in jail for murder," Hobi added.

The members looked at Hobi and started laughing. Hobi was as defenseless as a gnat and the members knew it. Jungkook wasn't laughing. Their comments made him sad. He knew all he had to do was tell them the truth and clearly they would save him in a heartbeat, but it'd come at a price. A price he wasn't willing to let them pay. Everyone was startled when they heard Jungkook speak up, they didn't know he'd woken up.

"Why woulda boss act like that? To their employee? I mean why would a boss hurt the person who works for them?" Jungkook asked from the couch.

"Because they're an asshole," Yoongi told him.

"But why are they an asshole? Namjoon would you know?" Jungkook asked. He just wanted to understand why Shik was the way he was.

"Usually people like that are just raised that way. People raised by assholes usually turn into assholes," Namjoon informed.

This made Jungkook curious. He wondered if Shik had ever been abused by someone. But that would mean Shik would know how badly it hurts, so why would he do it to someone else?

"How are you feeling, by the way?" Taehyung asked.

Jungkook said he felt better but for some reason he felt really cold. The members laughed and told him he could thank Jin for that.

"You know Jungkook you should read some of my books I have. You seem to have a lot of questions about why people are the way they are. Maybe it will even help you understand yourself better," Namjoon suggested.

Jungkook felt a ping of annoyance. You've read a million of the books and still haven't figured out what my problem is. Clearly your books aren't helpful.

"Maybe eventually," Jungkook shrugged.  He really didn't care. He rendered Namjoon's books useless a long time ago. He didn't see why Namjoon still bothered even trying to read them anymore.

Once the movie was over everyone made it to their rooms for the night except Jungkook. He found the couch quite comfortable and wanted to stay sleeping there. Considering Yoongi was placed on nighttime maknae duty, he grabbed the other couch.

Jungkook fell asleep quickly but Yoongi was having trouble. He was checking his phone when a severe storm alert popped up. It was rolling in fast and it was supposed to be pretty bad, possibly a hurricane with thunder. He looked at the sleeping maknae and panicked.

Oh fuck.

Jungkook was afraid of storms now and a thunderous hurricane rolling in in the middle of the night wasn't going to do him any favors. He also worried about the house they were staying in, it was right on the beach.

Double oh fuck.

He decided he was going to stay awake in case it got really bad out and he had to wake everyone else up. He also wasn't willing to take chances, he got up and lay next to Jungkook on the couch, covering them with a blanket. He wrapped his arms around him and pulled him tightly close. It wasn't much but he felt like right now it was all he could do to somehow stop the panic he knew was about to come. If he was really lucky his maknae would sleep through the whole thing but that didn't seem likely.

Unfortunately the weather report wasn't mistaking, a huge storm started rolling through with severe thunder and severe winds. Every gust of wind shook the house and the thunder even made Yoongi himself a little startled. He hugged Jungkook tighter when he noticed he was starting to whimper in his sleep.

And it begins.

He didn't know what would be worse. Jungkook having a night terror but staying asleep being stuck in it, or waking up to an entire hurricane outside and panicking about that instead. Yoongi felt pretty useless either way. He also thought about Jungkook's tendency to panic and wondered if he had a panic disorder that they were accidentally ignoring. He figured he'd bring it up with the members when he could.

Jungkook flinched when a giant boom of thunder came although he didn't wake up. Yoongi could feel tears coming out of Jungkook's shut eyes.

"No no, none of that. Hyung is right here you'll be fine," Yoongi whispered. He didn't know if Jungkook could hear him or not but he figured he'd at least try. Jungkook started crying harder and flinched with every boom of thunder without waking up. In his sleep he somehow managed to clutch onto Yoongi's shirt and bury his face in it. Yoongi pulled him closer and started rubbing his back. "Shh," he whispered.

"No," Jungkook whispered back.

"What?" Yoongi asked. Is he awake now?

"Stop, please."

"Stop what?"

"Leave me alone!"

"Jungkook?" Yoongi was starting to realize Jungkook wasn't awake. The night terror was in full swing.

"Let me go!"

"Who? Jungkook who is touching you?" Yoongi wondered if Jungkook would tell him the truth if he asked him questions in his sleep. It was a shot in the dark, literally.

"Leave hyung alone!"

"Who is bothering hyung?" Yoongi asked. Just say the persons name!

"Taehyung!" Jungkook whispered more aggressively.

"Taehyung is grabbing someone? Or Taehyung is grabbing you?"

"Don't hurt Taehyung!!"

"Oh...Who is hurting Taehyung?"

Yoongi was frustrated that he wasn't getting answers. He knew Jungkook would probably come up with some stupid lie about his nightmare when he woke up. Jungkook broke out into a loud sob.

Yoongi sighed and continued rubbing his back. "Shh. I can promise you nobody is hurting Taehyung."

As if he'd been heard, he turned when he heard Taehyung and Hobi walk down the stairs in the dark. Hobi was holding Taehyung's hand, the younger was a sobbing mess.

Now what?!

"What's wrong?" Yoongi whispered to Taehyung.

"He's scared," Hobi whispered back.

"Why?" Yoongi asked confused. What does Taehyung have to be scared about?

Taehyung was too busy wiping his tears so Hobi answered for him. "The weather is scaring him. The thunder woke him up and he panicked worrying about Jungkook. I told him you'd make sure he was safe but he is scared anyways."

Yoongi gently let go of Jungkook and stood up from the couch and gestured for Taehyung to lay with him instead. "Well I guess you're on time because I'm pretty sure he's having a nightmare and wants you right now too."

Without hesitation Taehyung lay on the couch and pulled Jungkook close to him. Yoongi tucked the blanket tightly around them. Even through the thunder Jungkook had instantly calmed down the moment Taehyung hugged him. The two of them were quickly fast asleep.

"Oh, I see how it is. Whatever Jungkook! Taehyung can have nighttime maknae duty from now on!" Yoongi chuckled.

Hobi laughed too but instantly ran and gripped onto Yoongi when more thunder and wind came. Jin, Namjoon, and Jimin all came down the stairs complaining about the weather and how it had woken them all up. They couldn't help but chuckle at the fact that they all ended up in the living room together in the middle of the night considering it somehow always happened.

"How is he sleeping through this?" Hobi gestured to Jungkook.

"He just had a nightmare so I have no idea," Yoongi informed everyone.

"Any information about what? Did he wake up?" Namjoon asked.

"Just something about someone grabbing him and hurting Taehyung. That's all I know."

"I wonder why one of us is always involved in his nightmares?" Hobi pondered.

"He must be afraid of one of us getting hurt and the thought of it makes him panic," Jin suggested.

Jimin walked over and ran his fingers through Jungkook's hair.

"But why?"
