Hiya peeps! I've seen a lot of authors come up with these fabulous cover contests and I've always wanted to hold one for my stories, but I never really did get to it. There are a ton of fantastic designers on the MDC, and I would love to see what cover concepts they could come up for my stories which I never seem to be able to nail.

This cover contest lasts from now to May 30. And there are HUGE prizes to be won!

THE GRANDE PRIZE

CRITERIA

Because the world where Hall of Games and Hall of Shadows take place in is super complex, I'd like to base it off the rewrite rather than the current drafts.

You can go for either a vector based, typo based, object based, model based or whatever style you like. I don't have a color preference either, although if you noticed, Hall of Games is usually in darker tones like blue or green while Hall of Shadows is usually in a fiery shade like red.

HALL OF GAMES:

Title: Hall of Games

Specific Ideas:

A couple important features in this story is a jeweled dagger or a rope bracelet with a silver bear charm. If you're going to do object based, please don't use any generic dagger stocks you can easily find from DeviantArt like the one with the white rose which I used for my "The Last Walker" cover. If not, a blood stained white rose would work too. Other keywords: broken glass, mists, broken diamond shards, dark castle. Shattered jewelry works too, as shattered symbolizes betrayal. If you can come up with something that symbolizes betrayal, that would work too.

Mood: Dark, foreboding, mysterious, epic.

As this is a high fantasy novel, it would be ideal if the genre can be told from the first glance at the cover. Think Mistborn, Game of Thrones, Throne of Glass, Flamecaster.

If you're going with model based, please, I am begging you, do not use Faestock. Although Faestock is lovely and is crisp, she is extremely overused and I tend to avoid her stocks like the plague. Especially the one with the white hair and black dress. 

This is what Cadence looks like: flowing white curls, she is dressed in a simple shirt and breeches with a dark, tasseled cloak flying behind her. Her eyes are a stormy gray (Yes, like Annabeth Chase), and she's sixteen. 

She can be seen leaping from rooftops to rooftops, jumping across the towers of the Hall of Games at night with the cold, winter wind whipping against her face. Snow is a prominent setting for the story. 

If you're going with text based or vector, you can think Six of Crows or the Grisha trilogy: Castle, dark shadowy swirls, ravens. Two silhouettes would work too: a boy and a girl (Cole and Cadence). Contrast is important when it comes to text based or vector covers. I've done a lot of Hall of Games and Hall of Shadows covers before in all mediums, which you can draw on for inspo.

If you're a digital illustrator, you can totally paint her. ^_^

HALL OF SHADOWS

Title: Hall of Shadows

Specific Ideas:

Important objects in this story: scattered Tarot cards, a crown smashing against the floor and shattering, skeleton army ( CLASH ROYAAAAAAAALE) but I am totally smitten by the idea of a shattering crown. The crown should ideally be glass because it shows how fragile power really is (this is gonna be hard to pull off and I am going to try it own my own just to see if I can do it). If not, an arrow shot through a rose from the bottom works too. This story evolves around betrayal and heartbreak. If you've read Hall of Shadows, you would know. >:D

If you're going with model based, the person on the cover is a dude, and his name is Jasper. He is tall, foreboding and mysterious. He wears a black cloak that is tattered at the ends with glowing silver runes around his sleeves and all along the collar. His hair is black and it whips in the wind.

This cover must mirror the style and mood of the first one.

Let your imagination flow, let it do the work and supply you with inspiration! I don't care if your style is clean or messy, bright or dark. But you know me, sometimes a bit messy is beautiful. ;D As long as it fits the story, I'm down for it. Here are some covers that I really like that might act as fuel for you:
