"Follow me..." Said Garnet.

Serena was on her first mission with the gems.

"Wow..." Whispered Serena, "They must do this a lot..."

"We do!" Steven replied.

Garnet stopped, and everyone else behind her seized as well.

"What is she doing?" Asked Serena, in a whispered voice.

"Just watch." Steven whispered back. Serena nodded.

"It's close." Said Garnet, then she continued walking.

Serena wondered why Garnet knew everything. She found it strange, and very annoying that she could never announce her decisions. Garnet always knew.

Garnet suddenly summoned her weapon. "Amethyst Weapon!" She ordered.

Amethyst summoned her whip, and looked up as the corrupted gem approached them.

Serena just stared, and watched them fight. How has she never seen them in action? Suddenly, the monster charged toward Serena, then picked her up, and ran away with her.

"Serena!" The three yelped in unison.

"HELP ME!" Serena screamed out.

The gem placed Serena on the edge of a tall mountain, which was breaking badly. Her heart pounded in her chest as the small, fragile surface shook under her feet. "'Come with us!' They said. 'It'll be fun!' The said!" Serena grumbled. She shut her mouth, and was still as a statue when she felt it shake some more. "They better hurry..."

Suddenly, it shook more violently, and collapsed. Serena yelped out just as she felt something wrap around her. "Wha-" She exclaimed as whatever it was pulled her through the air. She was screaming. When it let her go, Garnet jumped up, and grabbed the shaken girl.

Serena caught her breath when she found herself on the ground again. "Thank... You..." She said in between breaths.  She then noticed a gem she'd never seen before. The gem had dark purple skin and black hair and three arms. "Who are you?" Serena asked.

"This is Smoky Quartz." Said Garnet.

The strange gem glowed, and disappeared, being replaced with Steven and Amethyst.

Serena gave a confused look.

"What just happened?" Asked Serena.

"That's fusion." Garnet replied.

"Fu-sion?"

"Fusion is when two beings combine to make one entirely different being with a different appearance and abilities."

"I-" Serena's words cut off. "Nevermind..."

They warped back home, and as soon as they were back, Serena ran onto the beach. She collided into someone, and her world went black.
