Chapter 13:

Imran.
I frowned and rolled on my pillow. Last night was pretty tiring and every muscle in my body was ready for bed. I grabbed a fist full of my blanket and wrapped it around me.
Imran.
I frowned and dug my head into the pillow when a sharp pain over took me. My hand gently roamed around for my pillow but froze when it touched a cold, hard surface. My pillow was no where to be found.
My heart pounded inside my chest as I slowly but surely opened my eyes. A gasp left my mouth as I watched the sight in front of me.
I was on a mountain.
A high, rocky mountain and my bed was perched on the peak of it. I slowly took off the blanket while my eyes were focused on the sight ahead of me. Small speckles of dust were covering my palms but I ignored them and stood; the cold breeze instantaneously covering my body like a blanket.
Still clothed in only my sweats, I gently took a step forward and peered below the mountain. My chest was hit with a bolt of cold wind which nearly caused me to tumble over. I wrapped my frozen arms around my torso and squinted to see the lights ahead of me.
Beams of lights came from the village like area in front of me. All I seen was white. I slowly took a step back and watched the sight in awe. My foot collided with a massive rock, and I winched in pain.
Gently palpating my foot, I looked up again and watched. The sky looked like it was painted with a dark blue color. The streaks of blue changed as I looked across the clear sky. No clouds shaded the area at all. I stood and watched the lights as a shocking and cold sensation ran through me.
Mountain. Lights. The lights were exactly east of me.
My hands froze as all thinking and logic left me. I looked down on the ground as my heart raced faster than it had ever before. My mind tried to process what was unraveling before me but I couldn't explain the unexplainable. I looked east of me and watched the lights in awe.
I was standing on Mount Arafat.
There was no doubting it. The rocky surface, the light winds, and the looks of it. Suddenly, a shocking discovery rocked through me.
That must mean that the lights are-
Imran.
I froze and looked around and searched for another person behind me. I looked around again and called out. "Who's there?"
There was no response.
I walked behind me and ignored the little pebbles that poked the soft inside of my foot. I looked back at the lights and smiled. This was the sight I wanted to see. Finally.
Imran!
I suddently realized the sound of that voice and sighed. Her soft but stern voice only got louder as she called for me again. It was mom. That only meant one thing.
This was all another dream.
I looked above me again and closed my eyes, relishing in the sight and feeling. Spreading my arms wide, I sighed and let the breeze overtake me. Knowing it was a dream didn't change a thing for me. At least now when I come here again, I'd always remember this.
I silently made a promise to myself that next year, I'd come here for dad. I make dua standing in this exact position, and raise my hands to Allah.
Suddenly I was shoved awake. I rubbed my eyes with the backs of my hands and sighed. The light shined from the window as mom opened it. I tested the suns effect on my eyes and finally groaned and sat up.
"Imran, my goodness. You know better than to over sleep on a school day. Get up." I sighed and smiled. Mom was still here.
She gave me a weird look as I stood and crushed her with a hug. "Thanks mom."
She tried to escape my arms as I chuckled and showered her face with kisses.
"Imran, unhand me. You didn't even brush your teeth yet." I could hear the humor in her voice as I smiled and kissed her forehead one last time. Her hands gently hugged my chest as I crushed her again.
"Why in such a good mood?" She smiled and handed me my tooth brush.
"I just had the best dream of my life." Mom smiled and rolled her eyes.
"Boys. Just get dressed and meet me downstairs." I nodded and rushed to the bathroom.
******
"Dude, you don't understand. It was one of the best dream I ever had. It felt so real." I placed my tray on the table and sat down. The loud noise of the cafeteria didn't bother us as we ignored it and continued on with our conversation.
"Imran, that doesn't make sense. Why would you have these dreams and not anyone else?" Jafar asked.
"I know Imarn. I get it that you've been having these dreams for a while now, but seriously? The Ka'bah?" Salma raised and eyebrow and sat down in front of us.
"Yah. Tell him Sal." Salma glared at Abdullah and threw a piece of popcorn at him.
"But to be honest Imran, I seriously wish I had those dreams. When did you start having them?" Anisa turned to me with a generally curious look.
"I don't know." I looked down and shrugged. I didn't want to tell them about the details and stuff because they'd feel sorry for me again. "I've had them for a while now." Salma eyed me suspiciously before her face suddenly dropped.
"Oh. I'm sorry man." I nodded and sighed while smiling.
"But on the bright side, these dreams are starting to become tolerable."
"What do you mean?" Anisa asked with a concerted face. I shrugged and tried to remember all the dreams I've had before. This last one seemed to be the best dream I've had in a long one.
"It just was." An awkward silence roamed around is until Abdullah sighed and munched on his French Fries.
"You guys ready for that Economics test?" A collective groan rang across the table which caused us each to laugh.
I grabbed the smooth edges of my spoon and dragged around the potatoes in front of me. Today was a pretty important day, and I don't want to get side tracked with anything else.
I grabbed the edges of my napkin and dabbed it in front of my mouth. "Come on guys, lunch is almost over. We don't want to be late."
Abdullah shook his head and stuffed his face with the French fries while talked with his mouth open.
"No it's not. We have like thirty minutes left." Just as he finished the bell rang and I smirked shaking my head.
Abdullah groaned and chugged down the orange juice before dumping it all in the trash. "Come on."
Anisa grabbed her book and gave him a look of disgust. "Don't talk with your mouth open Abdullah. It's disgusting."
"Stop nagging me. I'm a guy and it's a free country, I could do whatever I want."
"I don't care. It's disgusting, close your mouth." Abdullah gave her a long look before he sighed and finished eating. Me and Jafar watched in amusement as Salma chuckled and shook her head.
"See, this is why girls are so much better than boys. You guys are dogs. Cavemen. Barbarians."
Me, Jafar, and Abdullah dramatically gasped and held our chest.
"How dare you!"
"The nerve of her!"
"Dogs!?"
Salma smiled cheekily before fixing her bag on her shoulder. "Yup." Anisa laughed along with her as we shook our heads and gave her a feed up look.
"Thats it. It's over Salma. We're no longer friends." I sniffled back a laugh and shook my head. Jafar narrowed his eyes and turned away walking towards the classroom.
"See you guys tomorrow!" Their laughter rung down the empty hall as we walked to class. We were already late, but why run when we're already going to face the punishment.
"We need to teach those girls a lesson. Show them how we dogs work." Jafar nodded emphasizing the word dog. How could she say that. We're obviously men.
"We've dealt with them for one too many times already. It's time we give them a little taste of their own medicine." I had no idea what the machines in his brain was conjuring up but I shrugged and walked along with them.
What could Jafar possibly do?
***
The rest of the day hasn't turned out like we wanted it too. After we came home from the road trip, Jafar asked if he could stay with us. I first started to argue with him, but gave in. It made sense that he didn't want to face his father.
That was last night.
It's already near asar time and all we did was sit in my hot and humid room wearing shorts and tank tops trying our best to recover from a water gun fight.
"You ready?" I panted and ran a hand through my wet hair. Jafar watched me with weary eyes and shook his head. He easily recovered like always, but it wasn't only that. He was worried.
His hair was ruffled and completely wet. I thought the game would put him in a good mood so I could talk to him, but I knew he was too smart.
Restlessness and sadness painted over his facial expressions. I felt a pang of sadness erupt within me because of all the things he must be going through right now.
"Imran, I won't do it. I can't face him." I crossed my legs on the bed and played with the collar of my top and thought of ways I could convince him. This room was getting deathly hot, and my bed was going to be soaked if I sat here any longer. I placed my palm behind me and looked up at the ceiling while Jafar and Abdullah did the same.
If I was in his place I bet I would've done the same thing.
Aunty Aminah called and I told her everything. I felt so bad for her. She was left to deal with him by herself. I closed my eyes and silently made dua that Allah makes it easier for her. Imagine your own husband, your other half, hating you because of your religion. May Allah give her jannah for her perseverance.
"Jafar your going to have to go sometime. Your mom can't handle it alone." Abdullah whispered. Jafar kept quiet for a while before closing his eyes and breathing out heavily.
"You guys would come though right?" I nodded my head and sat up.
"Of course."
"Why wouldn't we come." I watched as Abdullah walked into the room and smiled. "We're the three musketeers, we do everything together."
Jafar smiled sadly before shrugging his jacket on. "Okay, but if I do anything, you'd stop me right?"
I stood and stared at him. Jafar had never been this nervous before. His eyes were fined with worry, and his lips in a firm line.
"Of course man. We got your back both figuratively and literally." He silently laughed and stood.
"I'm seriously sweating all over. Look at this, my whole shirt was dry and now it's wet because of the sweat." I laughed and shrugged it off me while making my way to the bathroom.
"I'll meet you guys downstairs. You two could use the other bathrooms. Thirty minutes and we're leaving." They both nodded before I started the shower and closed the door.
I'm doing the right thing right?
***
"I can't do it. I can't." Jafar shook his head as we stood in front of his door bell. There was no noise from the living room so we guessed everyone was in the kitchen. Jafar shook his head again and took a step back.
"I can't guys." I sighed and shook my head.
"Yes you can. Jafar, it's your dad. He wouldn't do anything to you I promise. If he does, we're here." Jafar eyed me and I could tell he was unconvinced.
"I'm going to go karate kid on this door if you don't ring that door bell Jafar." Abdullah told him with a humorous frown on his forehead. I smiled and watched as he rested his hand on Jafars shoulder.
"Look man. Your moms in there by herself, who knows what she's going through right now. It's probably way harder for her since he's her husband. Man up Jafar. You were always the one motivating me and now it's my turn. Toughen up, and suck it up. You could do it, just believe in yourself. Gosh, now you got me going all Disney on you. Just get in there and help her already before I do it myself." Jafar sighed and rang the door bell.
A careful silence surrounded us as we waited for a noise. I clenched my hands together and silently listened. The wind was slowly blowing around us as we listened to slow footsteps approaching the door.
My breathing slowed and I could've sworn I heard Jafars heart beat. I glanced at Abdullah and noticed his eyes were closed as he waited for the door to slowly creak open.
The massive lock was turned and I rested my hand on Jafars shoulder and whispered to him. "You got this man." He gave me a small smile but it died down as the door slowly creaked to a stop.
A man stood there looking down on us but it wasn't the look any of us expected. His blue eyes sparkled as he smiled, his beard nearly reaching his chest. His blonde hair grew three times its length and covered the back of his head, as a red and black 'imamah rested on top of it.
Speaks of gold were noticeable in his beard as his grin only widened. His tall frame was freshly clothed with a perfectly white khamis. My jaw dropped as I watched, completely mind blow my the sight in front of us. Abdullah blinked several times and shook his head silently whispering 'no way' to himself. I couldn't believe it either. There was no way this was happening.
Jafar held a completely different expression. His jaw was dropped as he slowly closed it and swallowed. Clearing his throat I noticed the slight glimmer in his eye and realized they were watery with shock and surprise. The emotion in his face was indescribable. He opened his mouth to speak but croaked.
"D-dad?"
