part two : real life

A few minutes later, Willow knocked on Robin's door in her family video uniform. Robin answered with a warm smile.

"Hey dingus!" she said, stepping onto the front porch.

They made small talk about school while they waited for Steve to arrive. When he drove into the driveway moments later both girls got into the car, Robin in the passenger seat and Willow in the back. As promised Steve took them to McDonald's and payed for all of their food.

"Thanks mum," Willow said in a terrible British accent.

"You're welcome lads," Steve replied in an equally terrible British accent.

"Technically, we'd be 'lassies' since we're girls," Robin butt in.

"Yeah, yeah, whatever."

Steve pulled into the back parking lot of family video and the three teens made their way into the store. Work was mostly boring that day, perks of the Sunday afternoon shift. They did a lot of restocking shelves, changing out posters, and bullshitting all day. Only a few customers had come in that day and it was almost closing time when Robin said,

"We should do someone tonight."

"We could go to the skatepark?" Willow suggested.

"But only you and Robin know how to skate." Steve complained.

"We can keep teaching you if you don't give up this time," Robin hopped up on the counter.

"Not my fault I got hurt."

"You scrapped your knee, that's barely hurt," Willow crossed her arms.

"Fine, fine," Steve made a big, dismissive hand gesture and walked off to do something else.

That's when the bell on the door rang and someone stepped inside.

"Not it," Robin quickly said, putting her finger to her nose.

Willow frowned at her and turned to speak to the customer.

"Hi, can I help you find anything?"

The customer was a kid around their age. He had long, curly hair and dressed in an 80s rocker aesthetic.

"Uh, yeah actually. I'm having a movie night for my club and I'm not really sure what I'm looking for," the customer said.

"Sure, what's your club about?"

"Dungeons and dragons," he said, a bit nervously.

"Ok cool, follow me."

Willow led him over to the fantasy section and started pointing out some classics. Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, etc.

"Ooh, I love this one," she said, holding up a movie titled InkHeart.

"Yeah? What's it about?"

"It's about this guy and he has the ability to bring book characters out of the books. So this other guy tried to kidnap him to use his ability for evil and- I'm sorry, you should just watch it," she hands him the dvd.

The customer smiled at Willow and took the dvd.

"Thank you, it means a lot that you took the time to help me with this."

"I mean, it's my job," Willow shrugged.

"Yeah, but you could have just said 'the fantasy section is over there'" he said in a funny accent, "but instead you actually made me interested in this."

"Well, you're welcome," she smiled at him.

"I'm Eddie by the way," he extended his hand.

"Willow," she shook it.

Willow rung Eddie up at the counter and just as he was leaving he turned around to say,

"Cool hair by the way," he smiled and left.

Willow stood there, looking at where he had left.

"Robin, do you know that guy?"

"Eddie Munson, he goes to our school. He's been held back like twice."

"That guy is bad news," Steve added, coming back from whatever he was doing.

"Really? He seemed super sweet and genuine."

"Don't get caught up in that", Robin said, "there are plenty of other guys and girls that would love to date you."

"What? I'm not talking about dating."

"Sure you're not, when he said you had cool hair you blushed like 5 shades deeper than normal." Robin stated.

Robin and Steve leaned against the counter and gave Willow a knowing look.

"Whatever, let's just close up so we can get to watching Steve fail miserably at skating."

Robin cackled and Steve began to protest that would /not/ be failing miserably.
