Chapter 8 Painters?

The next day, Tim wakes up early and gets ready for work. He sees that Brenda is still asleep. He is not sure why she is not up yet.  He fixes breakfast, packs lunches for them both, and leaves a note for the painters.

Tim's note for the painters reads as follows:  Please remember to cover all the floors and furniture with plastic before you paint.  This is to ensure the floors and other items will not get paint on them.  Oh, and do not bother to paint the windows or windowsills.

Paint only the walls.  Use the red paint in the hallway, living room, and dining room areas.  The blue paint is for the kitchen. The yellow paint for the master bedroom, and the rest of the paint is for the other parts of the house.  Do not paint the guest room or guest bathroom areas.  Thanks, now if there are any questions you may reach me at 336-445-5565 Sincerely, Tim

Tim leaves a copy of the note on the bar in the kitchen and attaches another copy to the front door of the house.  He figures this way they will see it for sure.  He hopes they will pay attention to all the details he left for them.

Brenda gets up, gets ready for the day,  grabs her lunch bag and Tim's briefcase, and follows him out the door.  For now, she decides to remain his secretary since the job position she applied for elsewhere is filled.

Tim does not ask her about it. He just smiles, locks the door, and leaves the spare key in a plant by the front door for the painters.  He drives to the workplace with Brenda in the passenger seat beside him.

Brenda and Tim arrived on time. They go up the elevator together, and to the work stations.  Tim takes his break at the same time Brenda takes her's. He helps her get the water from the water cooler and makes sure no one bothers her.  He makes sure she gets back to her workspace safely when the break ends.

Brenda works hard. She is glad her desk is not far from Tim's. She thinks it is nice, because she believes it makes it harder for anyone to disturb her.

Meanwhile, the painters arrive at Tim's house. One grabs the key and uses it to unlock the place. Once inside he sets the key down on the bar.  Then, the painters cover up all the floors with plastic and tape it down. Then, work hard to cover up all the furniture with plastic to protect it from paint.

Next, the painters, get out their brushes, open one can of paint and proceed to paint the kitchen blue.  One paints the wall space around the stove area and so on.  Another paints the space above the kitchen door and around it.

A third painter, opens the yellow paint, and enters the master bedroom.  This person paints the walls in there.  They are happy to have some worker friends to assist them with this huge job. Otherwise, who knows how long it would take to complete it.   Everyone is glad they thought to cover the appliances up too, so that paint does not splash all over them either.  This should make things less messy for the man who pays them for all this anyway.

Once the kitchen and master bedroom areas are done being given new paint jobs, the painters return the lids to them, and they paint the hallway,  dining room, and living room areas.  After this they paint, the rest of the house with the green paint.  The painters, think the colors to be strange choices, but figure their opinion does not matter.  What matters, is what Tim thinks about it all.  He is the man who insists they paint it this way.

The professionals finish around lunchtime. They leave the house, lock the door back with the spare key, and place it back into the pot.  They hope no one else enters the house while the paint dries.  They head on to their next job. This one is across town at the grocery store.  They have the sign to repaint, along with the door and window sill areas. This the exact details the grocery store manager and owner gave them over the phone.

Now, back to  Brenda and Tim...

Brenda and Tim finish work around eight that night. They go out to dinner to celebrate Brenda being his secretary for a month. They both pay for their food, so no one can call it a date. However, Brenda wishes it was a date. She adores, no loves him.

Brenda and Tim arrive back at his place at nine o'clock.

Tim smiles, and says, "Good night, Brenda. See you tomorrow."

Tim goes to his room and takes a look around. He is glad to see the painters got the colors done correctly.  He gets ready for bed, removes the plastic from his bed and falls fast asleep.

Brenda prepares for bed, and soon dozes off in the guest room. She wakes up at midnight. She gets up, eats a snack, re- brushes her teeth, removes the plastic off the sofa and falls asleep again.  This time she stays this way for the rest of the night.  She does not notice the new paint job until the next day.
