Part 7
Myung-dae POV
My father really is a softie after all. I looked down at Sunjin and smiled. Then I picked her up and carried her to the room that I prepared for her. As I laid her in the bed, she transformed back into a fox. "Whoa!" that startled me. I wonder why she transformed back???
I know why my father fears the foxes, but you can't blame them all for something one fox did.
What happened???? O_O
I'm not really sure it is my place to say, but..... My mother was killed by a fox and my father has never forgiven himself for it.
WHY???
Well, my mother and father were going to take me to the temple one day, but my father got summoned to one of the nobles' houses on an urgent matter. My mother didn't want to wait for him, so she decided to take me by herself. As we were walking through the woods, she was attacked by a fox. I passed out so I don't remember much about what happened, but my father blames himself for her death. He believes that if he was there, then she wouldn't have died.
Anyways, I think it was around that time that I dreamt about marrying a fox. Funny right?? Okay, maybe not so funny, but still it is a neat coincidence. My father thinks that I just imagined it and that I was traumatized by the incident.
I really don't care what he thinks though. I really want to believe that I met a fox that day and that we were married. I mean, who wouldn't want to say they are married to a fox??? Okay, maybe no one but me would be crazy enough to say that, but still.........I wonder if she was the fox????
Sunjin POV
When I woke up, I found myself in an unfamiliar place. "Where am I?" I mumbled to myself.
"Don't you remember?" came a familiar voice. "This is my home."
I looked up and saw Myung-dae sitting at my bedside. Then I looked down and saw that I was no longer transformed; I was a fox again. I was about to jump out of the bed and run away, when he leaned over and began patting my head again. >//< Why can't I just stop him from doing this?
"How are you feeling?" he asked.
"I'm okay" I replied. "I think i just needed some rest. I'll leave immediately after I'm able to transform. I promise."
"You won't be transforming for a while" Myung-dae's father said as he walked into the room.
"Why not?" I became tense. "I feel fine! Also, I don't want to cause you any unnecessary problems."
"It's too late for that. Besides, you are too sick to be trying to transform right now."
"And how would you know about that? You're not a fox" I argued back.
"I may not be a fox, but I do know that it takes a lot of strength and stamina to transform like that and in my opinion, you are too weak to attempt it right now."
"Fine, then I'll leave later tonight when no one is around."
"I can't let you do that either."
"Why not?" I screamed at him. "I'm only trying to leave so that I won't cause you anything to worry about. So, why can't i leave?"
"Like I said before, you are too weak for that right now."
"I appreciate your concern, but I'm strong enough to make it home without too much trouble."
"I'd feel better if you stayed here until you are fully healed."
"Are you crazy?" I yelled at him. "What if the Magistrate found out about this? Don't you realize that you could be killed if they found out about me?"
"So, you do know about our laws" he chuckled.
"Of course we know about them" I sighed. "My family is very aware of the laws you humans have. We do our best to hide our true identity so that the people we care about don't get hurt because of us."
"People?" he was surprised. "As in human people?"
"Yes."
"Why would you care about a human?"
"If you haven't realized it yet, my family doesn't have anything against humans. In fact, my brother and I actually have jobs in town. We hide our true identity so that the people we work for, don't get punished. I'd hate it if they were arrested or killed over having us work for them." I sighed. "I really need to get home. My family will be very worried about me."
"Where do you live?" Myung-dae asked. "I could go and tell them where you are" he suggested and his father stared at him wide eyed.
I smiled at the sincerity of his offer, but said "As nice as that sounds, I think it would be best if you didn't go there."
"Why not? You just said that your family has nothing against humans. Why can't I go?"
"My family doesn't have a problem with humans, but I can't guarantee that some other fox would attack you. I'm not willing to take that kind of risk."
"Father, please tell her that it will be okay."
"Actually, I agree with her on this. You should stay here."
"Father!"
I could tell he really wanted to help me, so I though of a way that he could help that would keep him safe. "If you really are that worried, you can always go and tell Mr. Park at the book shop where my brother works and Mrs. Jeong at the restaurant where I work, where I am. That way, if my family comes looking for me, they will know where to find me."
"That sounds like an excellent plan" his father smiled. "Her family would most likely check those places first if they came looking for her."
"Okay" Myung-dae pouted as he left.
"Thank you for that" his father said to me.
"I promised that I would keep him safe."
He approached the bedside and reached out towards me. Instinctively, I backed away. "What is wrong?" he asked obviously confused.
"I'm sorry, but...."
"But what? You let my son touch you, why can't I?"
