Part 37 [Final Part]
1000 Years Later
Siwan POV
"Time sure does fly by fast" I sighed as I watched our newest cubs playing in the courtyard.
"Why do you say that dear?" my wife asked me as she laid her head on my shoulder.
"I was just thinking about how our first litter was always so fond of Sunjin and her family."
"They really did love your sister" she giggled. "Has there been any news from her family?"
"Yeah, Jongmin is going to be coming out next weekend with his new wife" I smiled.
"Don't tell me you are going to scare her, like you did all the others!"
"You have to let me have a little fun" I chuckled.
I guess you are all wondering what has happened. I hate to admit it, but my sister was right. Her family has been protecting the Archives ever since she passed away. They've never even considered selling all or part of it even though it is way too big for just my family.
That's right, the only Gumihos who are living at the Archives now are my wife and I and our litter of cubs. All the other foxes have gone on their own paths. It turns out that most of our cubs' mates were human, so they all decided to become human in order to spend their lives with their mates. It was sad at first, but we were able to accept it after a bit of time.
As for the other foxes that were living with us. Most of them got tired of living a never ending life hidden away in the Archives, so they finally ventured out and were surprised by how much the world has changed. Some have moved over seas and others no longer had the desire to live forever and became human as well.
My mother was actually the first to choose a human life. She had spent most of her life alone, that the thought of being alone for eternity was more than she could bear. We were sad when she passed away, but we were happy that she would finally be able to see my father and Sunjin again.
My wife and I have decided to stay and protect the Archives and our way of life. Since all the other foxes have left, we've had to hire staff to replace them in the Archives. Of course, our cubs always like to play tricks on them. You wouldn't believe the number of employees that have quit because they think the Archives are haunted.
As I said before, Sunjin's descendants still come to visit and we teach them about the past and what Sunjin gave up to protect us all. I think that is why they feel tied to the Archives like us. It is as though they have a blood bond that they can not ignore.
As for Sunjin...........Well you all know that she died a long time ago, but every so often I see a girl that looks just like she did and I can't help but think that maybe she was reborn. Of course I'll never know for certain because she no longer has her fox bead, but I'd like to think that she will be reborn someday and that she will be able to live a happy life with her destined mate.
