Part 31

Siwan POV

I saw my mother rush out of the house with Hyun-shik carrying Sunjin. Something was obviously wrong, but my mother didn't say anything to us. I quickly rushed to the vault to see if I could figure out what had happened and saw all the documents just lying around. "They could have at least treated the documents better." I was irritated at the state of the room.

I decided that it would be best to put everything away before someone else walked in. I looked at the table and saw two chests. "Why are there two chests? I thought she had placed them all in one." O_o

I slowly picked up each of the documents and carefully placed each one back in the first chest. "That's strange" I looked at the second chest "They all fit in the one chest, so why is there a second one?" I looked around the room and saw a journal lying on the floor by the couch. "This must be what belongs in the second chest" I thought as I walked over and picked up the stray book. I walked back over to the table and gently placed the book back in the chest. Just as I was about to close the lid, the title of the book caught my eye. 'The Gumiho's Tail'

"What is this?" I picked the journal back up and flipped it over to see the author's name. My eyes widened when I saw his name neatly written in the bottom corner. "Cho Myung-dae?" I quickly flipped it back over and started reading the journal. When I was finished I collapsed into one of the chairs. "I can't believe it! He knew all along that Sunjin......" I sighed as I remembered how my sister felt after he died. I wanted to rip the journal into pieces, but I just couldn't do it.

I placed the journal back into the chest and closed the lid. "Did Sunjin pull this chest out? But why? What if Hyun-shik saw it? He'd think it was a work of fiction, right?"

Suddenly, I could hear her friends screaming and knew that they were finally back and I would be able to figure out what was going on. I rushed outside and started in on them too. "Don't you know how worried we were about you?" I screamed as I approached her, but suddenly something felt different and I froze in my tracks. I looked over at Hyun-shik, but he also seemed different to me too. I looked at my mother and asked "What Happened?"

"Later" was all she said as she walked past me.

Sunjin walked over to me and said "We'll explain everything later, Siwan." Then she gave me a hug and walked inside with Hyun-shik at her side.

"I wonder what happened" Heeyoung commented.

"What do you mean?" I asked her.

"Well, those two weren't getting along too well before we arrived here. I thought for certain that she was going to have a fit and yell at him the whole time we were here. But now......"

        "Now?"

"It kind of looks like they are dating" she giggled.

"Leave it to Hyun-shik to hook up with some chick while studying" Minwoo chuckled.

I grabbed him by the collar "Careful! That's my sister you're talking about!"

"Relax!" Minwoo was obviously surprised. "I'm just saying....."

        "What? What are you saying?"

"Calm down Siwan!" Heeyoung screamed at me. "He is just jealous that he couldn't hook up with me!"

I released Minwoo and looked at  Heeyoung. "My sister isn't the type to date a guy without a proper courting."

Heeyoung giggled and Minwoo started laughing. "Please!" he scoffed. "What era are you living in? This isn't Joseon!"

I stared at the two of them as they chucked. He was right, this wasn't Joseon. I wanted to laugh too, but I couldn't. It may not be Joseon anymore, but we still lived every day as we always had.

We all went inside and I watched as Hyun-shik escorted Sunjin to her room. Something was definitely off about those two. For one thing, they both smelt different.

I'll admit, that the guy seemed weird to begin with. He was able to keep up with my cubs while they were playing with him, which is very difficult even for me. That made me wary of him from the start. Then when Sunjin said that she was going to sleep in the same room with him, I flipped out. I couldn't believe that my sister would do something like that, so I mentioned Myung-dae in the hopes that she would come to her senses and I thought that it had worked. I thought she would be more wary and would keep her distance from him, but after seeing how they were when they came back, I was even more confused than I was before.

Sunjin POV

When we got home, everyone started to question what happened. Heeyoung was genuinely concerned about me and it made me glad that she was my friend. My brother was obviously concerned as well, but I think he might have sensed something because he started acting strange when he came face to face with me.

Heeyoung kept insisting that I go lay down and rest, so Hyun-shik brought me to my room and helped me into bed. "I'll let you two talk" he smiled as he walked out.

I smiled as I watched him leave. "Looks like the two of you have gotten close since last night" Heeyoung teased.

"What do you mean by that?"

"Come on! You can tell me! I'm your best friend, aren't I?"

I giggled "Yes Heeyoung, you are my best friend."

"Then tell me what happened between you! Are you guys dating now?"

        I blushed "I think so."

        "OMG! Really?" she squealed.

        "Shh!" I kept blushing.

"So" she leaned closer to me "have you guys kissed?" I blushed more and turned away from her. "OMG!" she squealed again. "How was it? Is he a good kisser?"

I couldn't believe she was asking me all these questions. I was so embarrassed >//<.

"Well" she pressed. "Are you going to tell me, or am I going to have to drag it out of you?"

        >//< I can't believe how much things have changed over the years. I would never have thought of having this kind of conversation a thousand years ago. Not even with my closest friends. "We did kiss" I nervously confessed.

"And?" she pressed more. "What else happened?"

"That's all" I shy responded. "He kissed me in the archives."

"What about last night? Did anything happen last night?" she curiously pried and I shook my head. Then she pouted "Well that's no fun." Finally she perked back up "You never told me if he was a good kisser!"

I giggled and blushed again as I nodded "He's a very good kisser."

"And here I thought you disliked him" she sat on the bed next to me and then leaned on me.

"Well, it's not that I disliked him. I just didn't like his attitude towards studying" I countered.

"Well, I'm glad for you" she hugged me. "You always seemed to keep your distance from people. Even me at times. I was worried that you might never find yourself a boyfriend."

I giggled "I was just waiting for the right man to come along."

She hugged me once more and said "I'll let you rest now. Good luck with your boyfriend."

"Thanks" I smiled as she left.

Hyun-shik POV

As I left her room, I was greeted by her not too happy brother. "Hi Siwan" I smiled.

"Humph. You look awfully pleased" he scoffed.

"Your sister is resting inside. Heeyoung is with her right now."

        "I know that" he retorted.

Guess he doesn't really like me. "Well, I should get back to the archives and clean up."

"Don't bother!" he screamed. "I've already taken care of it."

        "Oh" I smiled "Thank you."

"But I'm curious about what happened" he said as he slowly walked towards me. "What really went on in the vault?"

"Siwan!" his mother called out to him. Wow, their hearing really is good. "I told you! Later!" Siwan sighed and then glared at me before walking away. His mother came over to me and said "I'm sorry about that."

"It is alright" I smiled. "I know that everyone is on their toes and are nervous about what is happening."

"I've already spoken with all the other adults. We are going to have a gathering tonight. Tell Sunjin that it will be at the usual place at ten o'clock and she will know where to go."

        "Okay....." I nervously paused.

"Was there something you wanted to say?"

I looked at her and became embarrassed. I wasn't sure if it was appropriate, but I really wanted to say it. "No, there wasn't anything else" I gulped "mother."

I saw her smile. "You really are a sweet young man. Make sure you tell Sunjin about the gathering and I'll see you both later." Then she took off.

"What did her mother want?" Heeyoung asked as she came out of the building.

"Nothing" I replied. "She just wanted to thank me for my help earlier."

"Isn't that expected of a boyfriend?" She just had to stress it.

I blushed "Shut up!" Then I walked inside, but I heard her giggling as I did.
