Merlottes Bar & Grill
As those single rays of sunlight broke through those unexpected clouds in the darkening sky of Louisianna – Bon Temps, I couldn't resist.
I threw my head back instantly, holding my face high up towards the sunlight. A wide smile spread across my face as the rays warmed my skin.
As a real New Yorker girl, I wasn't used to that much sunlight so I got excited for every last bit I could get. Although I had been living in Bon Temps for a couple of month by now (-and being sunburned at least half of the time) I still hadn't gotten used to it.
And neither was my skin.
Even though I was properly tanned for standards, here in Louisianna I guess I would be described as fairly light.
I closed my amber-green eyes and let my head fall back again, leaving my blond(-ish) collarbone long hair to twirl around my face in a sudden, but very welcome breeze.
Thankfully, the sun was very weak by now since dawn was approaching so I could enjoy the sun without any hesitation. I let my thoughts wander as the stress of the day just slithered away. For a split second, I was happy.
For a second I could forget about everything that had happened and just be in the moment.
I let out a deep and satisfied sigh. A sudden laugh made me raise my head an turn around.
„You moaning like that will bring out all the creeps living around girl!", Lafayette teased and raised an eyebrow at me.
I felt myself smirk at my friend. Okay buddy, you want to play? Don't try to get me flustered for I will beat you at your own game!I widened my eyes, looking as innocent as I could manage right back at him.
And than I moaned and rocked my hips in an obvious motion.
„Uh, yeah. Thats good! Oh, THANK YOU!"
I moaned once more, making it as hoarse as I could manage and winked at Lafayette while bending my knees. With my mouth open and my head in my neck I rocked my body in an obvious motion.
Lafayette pretended to be shocked but he couldn't keep a straight face.
„Yeah, alright babydoll. Move them hiiiiieps!"
I laughed and kept moving my hips when Lafayette jointed in and moved his whole body with body rolls mimicking me.
I sighed.
„Hey, that was my show. I can't compete with you and your sexy moves!"
Lafayette giggled before he leaned in close and whispered.
„That's right girl, I know what them men like!"
I looked back at his smoothly moving hips and knotted.
„Yeah, I don't doubt that. Mind teaching that to some straight boys though? I'm sure you'd do the female population of Bon Temps a huge favour with that!"
Lafayette winked.
„Sure thing honey! But for now, let's go back to work."
I stretched my aching muscles and nodded.
He was right, my break was over and it was getting dark which usually meant a lot of customers coming.
Passing Lafayette, he slapped my butt with his frying pan.
„Now move girl!"
If anyone else would have slapped my butt, he would have lost his hand. But I let Lafayettes slap pass.
Partly, because he is as gay as someone can be, and partly because he followed his slap up with a compliment.
„Damn girl, that is one tight sweet ass you is carrying. When do you find the time to work out?"
Well, it's not exactly a workout that had kept me in this good shape but more hours of material arts training, but I wouldn't tell him that. He would be suspicious and somewhere along the line, he would find out about my past. And the real reason for me being here in Bon Temps. I couldn't have that.
„Running around as a waitress all day does the job honey. Cooking the food and trying it all the time does the opposite!", I teased him.
„Still my ass is the one being used!" he shot back a bit too loud, getting a few heads turned in our direction. As I turned around after this remark I could make out Sookie picking up an order with her cheeks turning slightly red.
I giggled while Lafayette turned his eyes.
„Someone figure out that girl. One the one hand doing the nasty with the town vampire and on the other hand still blushing like a virgin."
I shrug my shoulders.
„Good old southern manners?"
Lafayette sighed.
„That's one way looking at it. But try being black, gay and living among those red necks..."
I nodded in sympathy. Just being the object of some dirty looks and jokes was already annoying for me. I wouldn't want to change.

Well, it's not exactly a workout that had kept me in this good shape but rather hours of material arts training. Of cause I wouldn't tell him that. He would be suspicious as to why a sweet little gal like me would need martial art training and somewhere along the line, he would find out about my past. And with that the real reason for me being here in Bon Temps. I couldn't have that.
'Running around as a waitress all day does the job honey. Cooking the food and trying it all the time does the opposite!', I teased him.

I shrug my shoulders.
'Good old southern manners based in oppresssion of the fairer sex?'
Lafayette sighed.
'That's one way looking at it. But try being black, gay and living among those red necks...'
I nodded in sympathy. Just being the object of some dirty looks and jokes was already annoying for me. I wouldn't want to swap places with Lafayette having to face racism, homophobia and and sexism on a daily basis. I sighed turning to the left.
'I need to go to the ladies, be in in a sec, alright?'
Before Lafayette could make a cunning remark I was standing infront of the old sink already, washing my face and hands in hopes of a little refreshment. Really, all those sunshine hours in Bon Temps where nice, great even, but sometimes the heat just brought me down to my knees. But that's how it had to be. Where I had to be. Because he was here. I looked at my reflection starring back at me from the slightly dirty mirror, the slight sliver of grey sparking from my green eyes. When I opened my eyes like that, I looked almost innocent. It was ridiculous how much my appearance could foul people. More than once, that had saved me.
Thinking about the past almost lead me down the path memory lane. A dangerous path ending with me in tears, angry. I shook my head, trying to regain posture while focusing on something else. Something like dapping my wet face with a paper towel and pushing myself away from the bathroomsink to get get back to work. A look outside the ladies rooms window revealed the quickly approaching dark. The sun was gone. I sighed and opened the door. Evening Shift always meant serving the especially charming population of Bon Temps. But at least the tips where decent.
Before I even reached the hall between Sams office and the kitchen, Sookie came swirling my way, her tight ponytail swinging with each step.
'Thank GOD you're here!' she almost shrieked while handing me her notepad and paper. Sookie was the embodiment of the perfect southern belle. Blond, charming, cute, well-mannered (almost leaning towards a prude, also maybe I was measuring her by New York Standards) and speaking with such a strong accent that I would not be surprised if even some townfolks would have trouble understanding her.
Which says something considering we where stuck out of now where deep in Louisiana - Bon Temp.
This Town. Honestly, I had never been a fan on the movie 'gone with the wind' but when I first stepped food in this tiny small town with its weird customs, the racism and Homophobie, the prejuduce and gossip, I felt like someone dropped me right inside the movie... or at least the past, which would maybe explain the lack of cell service I was getting. At first I was shocked to see how ignorant people around me had been. The whole progressive movement of... well everything simply hadn't reached the town this far it seemed. But then again, they seems pretty progressiv in some departments like ... well the acceptance of vampires I guess.
I was about the follow that train of though some more, when I took a closer look at Sookies Face. Her creepy smile was plastered on her features which usually meant trouble.
'Ash, can you take over for me for a sec?', she mumbled almost harshley (again, for her southern belle standards. In New York she would still be the poster-child for being polite and good-mannered).
Something was off. Red spots crawled their way up to her face, her smile was creepy as hell reminding me of Pennywise from 'IT' and her fingers clung to her waitress uniform. White Merlotte-Shirt, Black Shorts, aprint.
'You alright?'
I tried to place my hand calmingly on her shoulder. She was basically vibrating with nervous energy.
'Yeah, will be. I need to talk to Billy real quick. Somethings going on it seems,', she mumbled more to herself than actually talking to me.
'Just- watch my tables okay?'
I nodded and of she went, heading towards the parkinglot in the back. Lafayette, who had ears dropped from the kitchen, started mumbling himself.
'Still don't know what to think about that Bill bloodsucker...'
Couldn't agree more. Sure, to the outside they seemed to have an alright looking relationship. Yet, something was just... not right. Weird even.
I couldn't but my finger on it, which of cause almost made me insane. My distrust towards Billy, towards all vampires actually at least didn't came out of nothing. Although distrust was phrasing it lightly.
I had my own (way to close) encounter with vampires in New York. Thanks to that tiny 'meeting' I still wasn't able to close my eyes without seeing blood dripping down the walls in my head. Tears started to dwell up in my eyes, one escaping onto my cheeks. Angrily I wiped it away, took a deep breath and headed back to work.
Energetic and with a bright (-fake and almost Crazy-Sookie-Like) smile, I turned arount the corner to the service area of Merlottes. I froze right at the spot, as if I'd been truck by lightning.
I must had been deep, really deep in though before, because I noticed no indication what so ever, of what had unfolded in the bar in front of me. Everyone was silent, so silent you could hear a pin drop. Everyone was facing towards the same direction starring and the new arrivals. I followed their gaze, all my instincts yelling at me to get the hell away from this place while I prayed that the two vampires standing in front of me where just part of a dark and twisted nightmare.
