Creating Ideas for your story

I turn on my computer, go onto the Wattpad website and I get a notification saying someone's write on my board.

Hey Asuka, I would like to make a request. I would like if you could do a K project crossover with another anime like Naruto or Bleach.

Reply: Not a problem, I'll see with what I can come up with.

Replies back: Thank you so much! Asuka!

I stare at the computer, and let out a huge sigh. My husband notices this and looks over his shoulder.

"Something wrong darling?" Husband asks,

"Yeah, I've got a request on to write a K project crossover with another anime and I don't have a slightest clue on which anime should go for it?" I explain, my husband chuckles.

"What is so funny?" I asked him.

"Oh, I think you should just have K crossing over with Tokyo Ghoul. I think it would be funny." Husband says.

"Funny, more like a bad combo right there and what should be the idea of the story to begin with even if K crosses over with Tokyo Ghoul?" I let out a sigh.

"Oh, I'm sure you will figure it out. You and that amazing brain of yours." Husband said.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah." I sighed, and head over to the living room to watch some K and Tokyo Ghoul.

Believe it or not, that's what I was thinking when I got the request to make the K project crossover which now the story is called Blood and Fire. And it's one of my most popular stories.

Now I'm sure you are all wondering, how did I create an idea to start off with to make Blood and Fire?

Well, I started with an exercise that has helped me many times in the last few stories. Here's what I did and you should take notes on this as well.

Exercise 1 Immerse yourself in the anime itself.

I pull up the K series and started watching it. As I watch it, I imagine myself in the world of K while I'm watching the first episode of K.

"Wow, I never get tired I seeing all the amazing graphics of the city." I thought to myself. "Then there's Mikoto, he's so hot but also very dangerous. No wonder why he's called the most violent out of the seven Kings."

I grab the remote and then turn to the first episode of Tokyo Ghoul. As I watch the anime, I stumble something that is very similar to K.

"Wait a minute, Tokyo Ghoul has the same environment like K. They both are in the big city." I thought to myself again.

I continue to watch more of Tokyo Ghoul and found another similar connection.

"It seems that like K, Tokyo Ghoul has different groups with ghouls as their members. But they don't have powers like HOMRA, but still has some similarities." I write this down in my notes.

As I continue to watch more of Tokyo Ghoul, I noticed that Tokyo Ghoul is still pretty dark unlike K. But I was still stuck on what idea should I make.

"Well, what if the main character was not human? But, for the main character to be a ghoul might make things more difficult and plus. I would like to keep Mikoto alive at least. Is there something or another anime that could work?" I question myself.

I look through the lists of animes that I was familiar with until I came across Vampire Knight and Diabolik Lovers.

"Well, it would be awesome if Mikoto could turn into a vampire in order for his life to be saved. But which one should be good?" I wondered.

I do the same thing with Vampire Knight and Diabolik Lovers. I imagine myself in the anime and take notes.

"Well, Vampire Knight is awesome, but for some reason it doesn't feel right." I said, "However Diabolik Lovers, they do have a bit of something similar. It seems the time period in Diabolik Lovers is in modern times, while Vampire Knight doesn't have the electronics devices such as cell phones and it's a bit hard to tell what time period Vampire Knight is."

As I watch more of Diabolik Lovers, and made it to the second season. As I watch the Mukami brothers drink Yui's blood which is a special blood. An idea struck my head, special blood?

Wait a minute, special blood huh? What if a vampire posses a blood that is something similar to Yui's blood? And that the ghouls of Aogiri along with other vampires are after that vampire because of how special it is? Just like how HOMRA went on a manhunt for Tatara's killer? And what if Mikoto falls in love with that vampire?

"That's it!!" I shouted,

"What's what honey?" My husband asks,

"I've come up with a story! I'm doing a K crossover with Tokyo Ghoul and Diabolik Lovers!" I announced.

"Eh? I was joking on the Tokyo Ghoul." My husband said.

"Honey! Thank you so much for the suggestion!" I rush over and hugged him.

"Geez," My husband sighs.

I go to my computer and write on the description for the story.

(They want my blood....

They desire and crave for it....

Because according to legend every 100 years a woman from any race who posses a certain blood grants those who drink her blood, will be gifted powers and immortality along with bring prosperity to their clan.

I've been on the run for my very own life, a vampire like me shouldn't be but it's already happening because of this cursed blood that runs through my veins.

I find myself trapped in the hands of one of the seven colored Kings the Red King Mikoto Suoh.

With the ghoul terrorist organization called Aogiri Tree and other vampires after my blood and the Red King wanting to have me all to himself not for my blood but for the fire in my heart.

My life just keeps getting worse.)

Okay, so that is basically a demo on how to immerse yourself in the anime. When I immerse myself in the three anime. I wondered if there was anything similar to the animes. The idea basically came to me, and I had know idea that such a thing could happen.

So yeah you've immerse yourself in the anime but what about the emotions that took place in the anime. Here's the next exercise.

Exercise 2: Exploring emotions

So as I was watching the three animes.  I noticed that the main characters, had one thing in common in the first few episodes . All three of them were running for their lives. Shiro was running from HOMRA and SCEPTER 4. Kaneki was running away from Rize. And Yui was running from vampires that were after her blood.

As I wrote my idea in the description, I wanted the main character to have a similar thing. I've been on the run for my very own life, a vampire like me shouldn't be but it's already happening because of this cursed blood that runs through my veins.

See the similarities? But there was something else that caught my interest. Kaneki, and Yui were both loved by their parents. I started to wondered, what if the main character was loved by brothers?

Bingo! The Sakamaki brothers don't have a sister, but what if they did?

The more you immerse yourself in the anime and explore the emotions that went through your mind while you were immersing in the anime. You start to be on the verge of coming up with another story idea.

Other ways to generate ideas

While the two exercises are good things to start off with. There are other ways to generate ideas, my old English Teacher used to say to us class that when you write your story. You write on what you know, but now that is no longer the case when we have the Internet along with social media at the touch of our fingertips. Here are some suggestions, that can help you on creating ideas for your fanfictions.

Listen to Conversations: Think of yourself as having roving ears, always on the hunt for snippets of conversations. Like spending time at a local bookstore while you read your book on sipping coffee keep your ears open. Or when you are at the dinner table and your best friend or sibling was upset that his or her friend took away their crush. Can you do anything with that in your fanfiction?

Watch shows featuring adolescents: You might enjoy watching the Got Talent series, and you see a young girl who sings amazing and she seems she right on the way to stardom. But when you put on your writer's cap, your imaginations is helping you come up with the story of an adolescent whose world seems perfect until she realizes that her life is trapped in a TV reality show.

That idea, can apply to animes that have a rock star? Or your favorite character who is a rock star in your story, and comes across an adolescent with amazing talent and decides to help her out.

By now you've got the picture on how to create a story and your brain is a giant search machine.

Just one more thing as well. Whatever age you are writing for whether it teens or young adults or whatever age. Just remember they live in the same world you do, TV, war, blogging ext..

One way of connecting with your readers, as well as coming up with your material for your next story, is to see the world through their eyes.
