Chapter 2:The First Day part 2

Previously:

Twilight Sparkle stopped Sunset from hurting Pinkie, and now it's the next day. After the disaster of last night, how can they hope to become a team and make a difference in the war? Let's find out.

A knock on the common room door. It's Queen Celestia. Or possibly Queen Luna. The door opens. It's Luna. My shoulders sag in disappointment. I shrug it off, though.

Queen Luna smiles awkwardly, "On behalf of your mentor Celestia, I'd like to commend Pinkie Pie, for making friends and helping everyone get comfortable. Also, Starlight Glimmer, for acceptance, and making friends. Last but not least, Twilight Sparkle, for defending her friends from Sunset."

Starlight smiles, glad to be appreciated. Pinkie beams, also happy. I smile softly to myself. I don't know why, but Starlight's and Pinkie's grins make me feel happy. I don't quite understand. Friends. What a strange word. Just saying it makes me feel better.

Queen Luna makes a grimace and enters Sunset's room. I hear a loud crash followed by growls, grunts, and thumps. Finally, Sunset and Luna emerge. Both of them look worse for wear, and Sunset looks barely awake.

"Are you ok?" I ask.

She grunts and mumbles, "Sorry Luna, thought you were someone else."

Luna looks at Sunset sadly, "I know, child."

I blink. I didn't expect empathy for the girl who clawed at her like a wild animal. At least, I'd guess by the fingernail marks on Luna's arms.

Sunset winces at the sight of Luna. She shakes her head and goes through the door at the end of the common room. It leads to a kitchen. After the eight of us consult a memo on the wall, everybody gets to work. Applejack's on food duty, Sunset's on dishes, Fluttershy cleans the common room, Rainbow cleans the table, I take stock of the pantry, Pinkie Pie sweeps, Starlight Glimmer dusts, and Rarity does the laundry.

I enter a very expansive pantry. To call it a walk-in would be an understatement. It feels like a mile long. I'm going to have to ask Celestia for the measurements. I walk through. I can see why this is a chore. I temporarily wonder if there is a way to rig the place to automatically take inventory. But no, I'd need Sunburt's help. While I was great at chemistry and decent at programming, he was a miracle at inventions. I would have to get in touch. He was a good debater.

I wonder if I considered him a 'friend'. Probably not. I didn't get the happy feeling when I thought of Pinkie Pie and the others. He was simply an intellectual equal.

I walk through, carefully noting how much we've got of everything. We're not almost out of anything. It's the start of the week. I make the trek back.

When I exit the large pantry, I decide to quickly check the walk-in fridge. It's seriously another walk in! It's not as extensive, but it is chilly. Thankfully, it has coats on the side.

Once I reach the end of the fridge, I find a door. It probably leads to a freezer. Shuddering, I enter. I find sealed thermostats. At least I'll be prepared.
