Prologue

Centuries ago, magic was everywhere in the world and all people were able to control it in its different forms.

The supreme control over magic was entrusted to King Alweo and his companion, Queen Aislinn. Their hearts were pure and full of love, both for each other and for the magical world entrusted to them and the people in it.

Despite the good example that King Alweo and Queen Aislinn constantly set for everyone, human nature is prone to temptation, and it wasn't long before people tempted by the magic's great power did despicable things.

Magic carried great power, which seduced not one or two men and they began to use it to satisfy their lowest passions. Indulged in greed, lust and envy, people used magic for evil - they ruined others to have more, and robbed others from their love and happiness. Owing to the men's sins, their souls gradually got tarnished, corrupted, and all good in them was destroyed. The light in them was slowly dimming until there wasn't any.

The more people were tempted to use magic for evil, the more depravity and ruin spread everywhere. And from the magic they had used for their abominable purposes, dark energy began spreading out. This energy accumulated in the atmosphere until one day a horrible storm broke out. The sky turned bloody red and ominous lightning flashed, followed by a monstrous rumble that shook the whole earth. And this lightning was filled with all dark and venomous energy, emotions, and people's sinful acts. That horrific lightning came from the bloody red sky to create the Apollyon.

The Apollyon was a creation of every evil that sprang out of people's hearts. From their tarnished, gnawed, ruthless hearts. It was a collective image, a being created from the darkest human desires, the unforgivable human sins, and the most outrageous cruelty a human could've done. The despicable actions of the people had taken on an image, a density and had come to life in a living, breathing being, created by magic, by nature, and by people themselves to punish them for their cruelty to one another. Yes, the Apollyon was a living punishment for the greatest sin that humans had committed - the trampling and the violation of their own humanity.

Paradoxically, the Apollyon was a being of breathtaking beauty. It had humanlike seductive appearance, but it was more beautiful than any human in the world. It had wings, like an angel, mmm, but with a reddish-black color, which hinted at its true destructive nature. The Apollyon's soul was darker than the depths of death, and its touch turned everything to ashes. This poor being was doomed to eternal loneliness and to spread annihilation wherever it went. That's why people called him the Apollyon, i.e. the Destroyer.

King Alweo and Queen Aislinn worried about the world's well being when the Apollyon began to destroy everything in its path. So they summoned all of their magical power and... A new storm broke out, but this time the sky was beautiful - painted in blue and pink - two colours merging into one unique and marvelous purple colour. Everyone were amazed by this beauty in the night sky. Then... a lightning flashed and split in two. One part sank in King Alweo and the other in Queen Aislinn. And they transformed into pure white light. When they restored their human form, only the whiteness of their eyes suggested the magic that had filled their bodies with its pure and great power. And when King's and Queen's eyes renewed their human form, the light was completely absorbed by them, as well as the magic. By doing this, they took all the magic in the world in themselves. But it was too much to keep it in their bodies, so they created a magical barrier between the rest of the world and large enough area around their castle. The magic disappeared from all over the world and concentrated only on the territory that was in the possession of the King and the Queen.

Thus King Alweo and Queen Aislinn created their kingdom and named it at both of them - Alvlinn. Alvlinn was the only place where magic still existed. A place parallel to the non-magical world, and hidden from it with a powerful cloaking spell. Even though only people in Alvlinn knew about its existence, the whole world was bound to it. On the fate of the kingdom depended the balance between good and evil everywhere - not only where magic was still living and breathing, but also where it was forgotten that it ever existed.

That very night, King Alweo and Queen Aislinn took not only great power, but also great responsibility - to find and defeat the Apollyon so to stop its terror. Nothing in them suggested how much magic was concentrated in their bodies except... their eyes.

That night their eyes changed forever. The brown velvet eyes of King Alweo became a perfect resemblance of a night sky dotted with thousands of twinkling stars. From then on he had sparkling dark blue eyes - as dark as the night sky, and with his inner magical light reflected in them. And the icy grey eyes of Queen Aislinn turned into bright green and they were gleaming with her inner magical light. From then on her eyes reminded of grass bathed in morning dew.

The sky and the Earth had raised and assembled in two people, King Alweo and Queen Aislinn, so to fight with the evil darkness caused by people's sins, and to bring back the peace and light in the magical and non-magical world.

The King and the Queen left their two children, their son Garden and their daughter Estrella, and followed the Apollyon's tracks. And when they found it, the war of wars between good and evil, between light and darkness, between the first Guardians and the first Apollyon began.

King Alweo and Queen Aislinn defeated the Apollyon, but they themselves were so exhausted by the battle and the great power they possessed that they couldn't handle it and... Holding hands, they slipped on the sunlit grass, then took their last breaths, and whispered to each other for one last time the words "I love you".

Due to their sacrifice in the name of the world's well being, King Alweo and Queen Aislinn were called the Guardians.

People rejoiced that the terror was over, but the prince and the princess of Alvlinn mourned for their parents death, but both sides didn't know the truth, yet.

The King and the Queen, as well as the Apollyon, were loaded with lots of magical energy. And when the hearts of the three of them stopped beating, their bodies as their ephemeral form disappeared. The magic in them was pure energy and as any other energy it wasn't wasted but transformed into something else. All the light and the darkness spread across Alvlinn and loaded the kingdom with additional magic. The heirs of King Alweo and Queen Aislinn kept their superior power over magic, and in the following years people were born with innate magical powers bound to the nature elements - water, earth, fire, and air.

And because people tend to forget too easy the lessons they've been taught to, magical or non-magical, this war of wars wasn't one-time thing. The appearance of the Guardians and the Apollyon wasn't neither an exceptional event nor the last one, but only the first of many more to come.

Alvlinn and the people in it were destined to repeat this moment over and over again. Every 1,000 years on New Moon, a terrible storm broke out in the kingdom. The sky was colored blue and pink, which merged in purple, lightning flashed and split in two, and then fell and sank into the two chosen ones - a boy and a girl with pure hearts and capable of great love. They were united in an indestructible union with each other, and they became the new Guardians, their appearance slightly changed so to resemble the black-haired King Alweo, whose eyes were like a night sky dotted with thousands of twinkling stars, and Queen Aislinn with her fiery red long curlly hair and eyes reminiscent of grass bathed in morning dew.

On the same night, shortly after the appearance of the new Guardians, it got as silent as the grave, and then... The sky became bloody red and an ominous lightning with a monstrous rumble fell and enveloped one human soul in darkness, creating the new Apollyon.

And the battle between good and evil, between light and darkness, between the Guardians and Apollyon, began. Again.

And this cycle has been repeating over and over again in every 1,000 years on New Moon.

The Guardians always won, except once, so to be shown to the people, and to make it crystal clear to them that this was not an ordinary battle, but a fateful one. Whoever wins it will reign for the next 1,000 years. The victory of the Guardians provided protection for the whole world, and their loss could cause destruction everywhere. If Apollyon reigns - doom and ruin spread to the magical kingdom of Alvlinn and beyond.

This only victory of the Apollyon brought the world, the whole world, magical and non-magical, almost to its end. But it stopped. Noone till this day knows why and moreover how, but the Apollyon was vanquished, and disappeared. But not without any trace.

As the victory of the first Guardians, King Alweo and Queen Aislinn, left a mark on the people in Alvlinn, giving them innate magical powers, so the Apollyon's winning left its dark mark too. In the magical world of Alvlinn, people without magic were born. And within the years, their count was gradually increasing. Because of that additional envy and negative dark feelings rose in people's hearts, spreading more and more venomous energy that gave more and more power to the next Apollyon. And one day people started talking about the appearance of a new Apollyon, stonger than ever before. Someone with pure darkness in its heart, someone more deadly than any of the ones before it. Someone that the Guardians won't be able to conquer. Someone that will bring the end of everything, who will destroy it all.

Are the people right or wrong!? That's something only time could show. But the clock is ticking, and the time is passing. New cycle is about to begin, and new battle to rise.

And the end of it all is unknown.
