Chapter 19

12 days have passed since the day he kissed me and there was not a single day that Ace never lived up to his promise. Every morning he brought me a different bouquet of flowers. Then during the day he would set aside all his work and sit beside me to keep me company. He would even switch off his phone and block out his mind from the others so that they could not disturb our 'Bonding time' as he likes to call it.

"Hey," Ace said coming into the room.

"Hi," I said smiling.

"How are you feeling?" Ace asked me pulling a chair from its place and sitting right beside me.

"Much better, I can now walk to the door and back without in any pain."

"Good. I am glad you are feeling better. I-" he started to say but got cut off by someone opening the door.

"Good afternoon Arielle and Ace," the doctor added when he saw Ace, "I hope I didn't disturb anything."

"No not at all," I say.

"Okay, then I am happy to say that you will only be in the hospital for a week more. You are healing very fast and if my calculations were right then you will be as good as new by next week."

"Okay thanks doctor you can leave now," Ace said rudely.

"What he means is thanks for your help and that we don't want to keep you away from your work," I sidy glaring at Ace.

"Okay then bye," he said hurriedly and goes out the door.

"You were so rude to him," I scolded Ace.

"Well I am higher up than him," he said shrugging his shoulders.

"Well it is rude," I said crossing my arms over my chest.

"You look cute when you try to boss me around," he said smiling his award-winning smile.

"Ugh, you are so annoying. Did you know that?" I asked him throwing a pillow at his face which he quickly dodged.

"Of course I did. You have told me over and over and over and-"

"Shut up," I said huffing.

"First you want me to be nicer to the doctor now you want me to shut up. Make up your mind woman," he said grabbing hold of both my hands.

"Annoying as ever," I muttered under my breath.

"Well this annoying person is your mat-" he stops abruptly and has a thoughtful expression on his face when he suddenly speaks in his work voice, "We have to go now!".

"What is it?" I asked suddenly scared of what Ace was about to say.

"Grayson overheard some rouges saying that they were going to be surrounding us. So that we would be trapped."

"Well, what are we going to do?"

"Come on," Ace said pulling out the wire attached to my right arm.

"You never-"I tried to say but was cut off by an angry Ace.

"Not now Arielle," he said harshly making tears flood my eyes.

"Arielle I am sorry I didn't mean that but I need to know you are safe," he said caressing my cheek.

"Okay," I answer in a hoarse voice from the tears. I blink rapidly waiting for the tears to go away. One tear mistakenly slipped from my left eye to which Ace wiped away with his thumb.

"Shh it is going to be okay," Ace said putting his right arm under my knees and his left arm under my back. Before I can register what is going to happen he carries me bridal style. He opened the door and runs through all the passages until we reach the back exit. He pushed the enormous door with full force making it hit the fall hard. Without a second glance, he keeps running until we are at the edge of a forest.

He put me down gently, my head spinning for a few seconds from all the running. After a few seconds, the dizziness slowly came to a stop.

"What are we doing here?" I asked taking deep breaths to calm my racing heart.

"Well I am to shift into my wolf and you climb onto my back. Then we will go to the hybrid kingdom," he said nervously scratching the back of his neck.

"Okay then. Go shift," I said pointing to the forest.

"What- aren't you going to shout at me and tell me that you are not climbing onto my back?" Ace asked with shock.

"Dude we are in a life or death situation I don't have time to think about all that!" I said to him.

"Okay wait here. Don't go anywhere," he says and ran to the forest before I could say anything.

I looked around me to see tall trees everywhere. They were all the same except one. I walked to the tree and saw claw marks on the bark of the tree. I looked more closely and saw small drops of blood. I heard the crunching of something and looked around to see Ace in wolf form. He was shaking his big head as if to say 'I told you to stay in one place'

"What?" I asked pretending to not know what he was saying.

Ace just shook his bug head and sat down so that I could climb over his back. I put my legs on either side of Ace and hold tightly to his soft but long fur, making sure not to pull it. When I am securely on his back Ace stands up and runs slowly. I looked around me as we passed the tall trees. I notice after a few minutes that I am passing more trees than before. After a few more minutes of this speed, Ace ran really fast. My hair was whipping in my face even though it is in a ponytail and the slap of the wind hit my face every time he went uphill.

I grabbed more of Ace fur to make sure I will not fall. I look around trying to figure out what I am passing, but before I knew it Ace jumped really high making me squeal in surprise. My heart pounded from the sudden shock. I tried to calm myself but it doesn't work. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw a movement. I looked in that direction to see a wolf running directly behind to us. I slowly bend down to Ace's huge ear and whispered softly, "There is a wolf behind us,"

Ace must have heard me because he let out a long howl that sends shivers down my body. Ace gains up more speed causing me to pull at his fur in fear of falling down. Going really fast was one of my worst fears. I close my eyes and slowly put my legs in a way so that I have my face on the fear but I am still holding on as tightly as ever.

I tried to think of how a chocolate ice cream tastes like and I think about how long since it been since I have eaten one. I felt the speed of his legs gain resulting in me pulling his fur more tightly. I got a sudden fear in my body. Questions started to pop in my head. What if the wolf catches up to us?  What if he beats Ace? Where they more of them behind us that I hadn't seen? I tried to distract myself by closing my eyes and think about how a chocolate ice cream tastes like. I thought of how I get a brain freeze when I eat too much ice cream at a time. I felt myself getting hungry and then I remember that this when I have lun-

My thoughts were cut off when I felt Ace come to a complete stop. I opened my eyes slowly to see wolves in front of us. I sat up straighter and turn my neck to look behind me to see that wolves have formed a big circle around us. All of them were staring at only one thing, Ace and I. They were all stone-faced. They all had no expressions on their faces. Their eyes had something that I cannot recognize. I felt like I can trust them. As if they could save me from being hurt.

 Before I can think any further I saw the wolf from the earlier attack one of the wolves from the circle. As they fight other wolves appear and start to fight. More and more wolves keep coming until all the wolves in the circle are fighting. I turn my head around to see that there are more enemy wolves. The sounds of loud growls and the baring of teeth filled the air. I turn my neck to the left to see that some of the wolves are bleeding.

Ace gave off another one of his loud howls that just brings involuntary shivers down my spine. In the distant I see more wolves coming. Before I could blink my eye the wolves are joining the bloodshed.  I covered my ears so that the sickening sound of bones breaking is not so loud.

The fight goes on for a few more minutes but then abruptly there is silence. I look around to see dead bodies of wolves everywhere. I look to see some wolves holding down the captives.

I heard Ace give out a loud, clear howl that holds a lot of authority that it makes the wolves bow their heads and howl back to him. After about two seconds they all stop howling and the front of the circle start to run. The wolves from the sides came closer to us. When they were almost a meter apart from us we all start running. I turned my neck behind to see the rest of the wolves following closely behind.

And that's how we started our journey to god knows where.
