Sage
"SAGE!" Was heard throughout the house from the room down the hall.
The girl on the couch who had her elbow on her knee and hand on her forehead rolled her eyes. 'Oh my god...' She silently mouthed before slowly looking up at the woman who yelled.
"Yes Mother?" She asked with raised eyebrows.
The woman held a pair of jeans up and put her other hand on her hip. "And what is this?" She asked the girl.
Sage looked at the jeans then back up at the woman. "A pair of jeans." She said slowly like she was trying to get a two year old to understand something simple.
The woman scoffed. "I know what they are young lady...what are they doing in your room?"
"So I can wear them." She answered simply, shaking her head. "Why else would they be in my room?"
The woman stared at her before pressing her lips in a thin line instead of answering or giving any other comment besides, "To your room. Now!"
Sage heaved a heavy sigh before slowly standing up. "Fine." She'd rather be in there anyway. She went to grab the jeans only to have them yanked away from her grasp.
"Oh no you don't...these are going in the trash...where they belong." The woman glared at her before turning on her heel, walking away.
Sage watched her before silently walking to her room, slamming and locking the door behind her. She groaned loudly, banging her forehead against the wall beside the door a couple times.
She hated it here....okay no. She didn't hate it HERE, she hated the PEOPLE here. Her parents. The ones she had to deal with since the day she was born....then again, they weren't that hard to live with until she developed her own thought and opinions. Her own style of clothing.
She was a girl...okay, she can live with that, however, that does not mean she has to dress like one. Dresses, skirts, pink, bows..most certainly NOT her thing to wear. At all. Jeans, shirts, jackets, one shoulder t-shirts or tank tops. That...she can live with. She does live with it, it's all she lives with. Until she gets caught.
Sage never liked dressing up or putting makeup on, it wasn't her thing nor shall it ever be. Unfortunately, her parents did not understand that...or they did but refused to accept it.
Which sucked for her. Majorly.
She sighed as she fell back onto her bed, staring at the ceiling. She didn't know how much longer she could handle this. She could leave at eighteen...four more years of this and she'd go insane for sure.
She suddenly heard rocks crunching under tires outside her window and shook her head, looking over toward the clock. 8:00pm. Wow. It was later than she thought it was.
She rolled over, off her bed but got to her feet before she could hit the floor. She straightened her clothes before heading for the door, freezing when she heard her name being shouted.
"Sage?! Get in here this instant!" A mans voice shouted.
Sage stared at the door for a few seconds before clenching her fists. "She told him?!" She hissed to herself before stomping to the door, yanking it open. She headed straight down the hall and to the living room. "You told him?!" She yelled at her mother, shaking her head, expression incredulous.
"Of course I told him." Her mother said it like it was obvious, a smug expression on her face.
"Sage, you need to stop this behavior this instant. You are a woman, not a man. You do not dress like one." Her father stared at her. "Be like your mother."
"And wear those ugly ass clothes day and night, no thank you." She scoffed, crossing her arms.
"Watch your language!" Her mother snapped.
"I can say whatever in the hell I want!" Sage snapped back.
"Enough!" Her father cut in firmly. "Sage, stop this or you truly do give us no choice." He actually looked sympathetic but she knew better.
Sage furrowed her eyebrows in confusion. "Choice in what?"
"Making you leave." They both responded immediately like it was so easy to decide.
She stared at them with wide eyes after their words set in. "You...you're kicking me out?"
"And disowning you." Her so called mother crossed her arms.
She stared and stared before shaking her head. "Because of how I dress? You're kicking me out because of how I dress?!"
"Exactly." Her mother nodded. "We want a daughter, not a son."
"You guys are major assholes, you know that? A.S.S.H.O.L.E.S! Just because I don't wear dresses or mini skirts, strutting around in high heels with my face caked over doesn't mean I'm a dude or any less a girl." She knew this argument was pointless by their expressions and scoffed loudly. "You know what, fine!" She shrugged, turning around. "I didn't want to stay here anyway! By the time I turned eighteen I might as well be in a mental hospital because that's how crazy you two would've drove me!"
"Where are you going?"
"To pack! Is that okay with you...Mother?" She hissed, looking over her shoulder at her, not giving her time to answer before entering her room. It's not like she really had to pack much. She already a duffle bag packed under her bed.
Now...she had planned to leave at some point, by her own will when she actually had a place to stay, getting kicked out wasn't really something on her mind until this moment.
She'll figure it out, she wasn't stupid, she knew what this meant. You couldn't really prepare for it though, living on the street wasn't something someone could prepare for at all.
She grabbed her bag and a hat that she stuffed onto her head. She glanced around carefully before grabbing some money she had been saving up for a while from a hidden box. All one dollar bills but they were something.
She hid the money in her bag before carrying it out of the room, going back into the living room. She didn't look broken in anyway though that didn't mean she didn't feel it. She didn't allow herself to though. This was what she wanted after all.
"We never want to see you again, you're a disgrace, never come back here, understand?" The next thing she knew she was being shoved out the door, it slamming and locking shut behind her.
So here she was, fourteen years old and finding herself standing outside her house...or ex-house with a bag and an order to never come back.
"I love life...so much.." She mumbled, heading off the porch and into the night covered world.
