Suspicion
Five days.
It have been five days since Y/N has begun his magical training under the guidance of an old magical book which went by the name of Grimoire Guthrum. He's been quite busy for those five days to say the least. He wouldn't exactly call the training he had received from Grimoire Guthrum the easiest, even if it mostly consisted of learning basic stuff. There were a few things with which he didn't have problem with, such as leaping into the air with his robe on himself, but the other things such as summoning his broom took him far longer than he thought it will take.
He finally managed to summon his broom after he spend over an hour at trying to do so, at the point when he felt like his wrist was about to detach itself from the rest of his body. He was of course gladdened to see it pop out of thin air in his hand, because at one point, he was starting to think that Grimoire Guthrum was making him do this for his own personal amusement, but those thoughts quickly went away from him, because he doubted someone like him was capable of making jokes at someone. Guthrum just seemed too serious for him to do so.
Grimoire Guthrum has proven himself to be a good teacher to Y/N over the course of the last five days. The talking book always made sure that Y/N knew everything about the thing he was about to learn from him before starting to teach him the said thing. He was also, just like Y/N excepted him to be, very strict and the more annoying side of his large ego started showing itself in him more often which mostly consisted of him talking about how great and important he was, but Y/N had gotten used to it at this point. Guthrum getting offended by Y/N not referring to him by his full name was still quite amusing to his new user, though.
Y/N wasn't the only one from the duo who was learning new stuff fromt the other person, though. The new user of Grimoire Guthrum made sure to return the favor by showing the floating book all kinds of stuff which came out after Grimoire Guthrum was put to sleep. Watching how Guthrum's fascination with the modern stuff was making Y/N smile whenever he introduced something new to the floating book. How long the said sleep lasted was still a mystery for both of them, though as Grimoire Guthrum's lost memories didn't return to him. His mind was still filled with blanks.
He may have been capable of summoning his broom anytime he wanted now, but learning how to fly it which was the next thing he started to learn was a completely different history. It has proven itself to be much harder than he thought. Balancing the broom to make sure he wasn't going to fall off of it and suffer a rough landing because of it which was how his first attempt at riding it ended was much harder than he thought. At least he had a decent place to learn it.
The abandoned warehouse has proven itself to be a good training ground over the last five days, but it had a few downsides, such as lack of space, which was probably the biggest downside of it. Learnng how to fly his broom in it prevented him from mastering other things in flying a broom was the best example of it, because the earlier mentioned lack of space prevented him from learning how to take turns around the corners and a few other things.
It was why Guthrum decided that it was the best for his new user to learn how to fly his broom outside of the abandoned warehouse. Y/N had mixed feelings about it, because It may have made a few things easier for him, like he didn't have to worry about hitting the wall every five seconds anymore, but it also made a few things harder for him, like having to look around himself every five second to make sure he won't be spotted by any witch living in this city wasn't making it any easier as he still wished for his association with Grimoire Guthrum to remain a mystery for now.
Eventually, after learning nothing but the basics for the last three days, Y/N had been informed by Guthrum that he knew enough for him to start learning Dark Blast. There were still a few things relating the basics which Y/N had to improve. Steering his broom was the main thing which Y/N had to improve, but according to Guthrum, they no longer needed to focus their full attention on it, because Y/N was practicing flying it everyday when he was heading out from his home to his training grounds at the old the warehouse, and heading out from his training ground back to his home after finishing the training for the day.
Y/N was gladdened by this information and Guthrum started teaching him how to cast this spell right after. This is how the next two days of their training were spend. The new user of Grimoire Guthrum had to admit. Guthrum wasn't exaggerating when he said that mastering those spells won't be an easy task, especially for someone who just started learning how to use magic, like he did. He spend the last two days at trying to make a single red magic projectile fly out of his cane, but nothing was coming out of it everytime he tried. According to Guthrum, he was failing at casting it, because he wanted for it to happen too much and wasn't as relaxed as he should be when casting it.
How did he handled the matter of the school in the past few days after he had begun his training? The answer was quite simple. Y/N simply skipped the school on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and didn't attent any of his classes. It wouldn't hurt him if he skipped a few days of school. His grades were good enough to keep him out of trouble. He didn't have to worry about having to write exams again, because if the city was restored, then they must have been restored too, right? He didn't have to worry about people asking him about his absence, as he came up with a believable excuse for his absence for the first half of the week.
He knew that he couldn't keep skipping school, though. He had to return to it sooner or later. Dealing with a lot of arrears would be a pain and take a lot of his free time. This is why he always skipped only one day of school whenever he didn't felt like going to it and why it was always Friday. This way, he didn't have to worry about missing many notes. He decided it was time for him to return to it on Thursday and this the main reason why he was walking towards the Takamiya household at this very moment. He wanted to ask Honoka if he could take pictures of the classes which he had missed in the last three days and ask him if they had any homework for tommorow, because he didn't want to have an unpleasant suprise tommorow.
He stopped in front of the front entrance to the Takamiya household and knocked on it. He crossed his arms as he heard someone approaching the door from the other side, awaiting for the said person to open it.
"...Y/N." Komachi Takamiya said as she was the one who opened the door. She offered him a kind welcoming smile, "What brings you here? You never came to visit us before."
"Good day to you, Miss." He greeted Komachi back, offering her a small smile of his own in return, "I wasn't in school for the past three days, because I wasn't feeling very well. Is Honoka home? I want to ask him if I can take pictures of the stuff I missed in the last three days and ask him if he we have any homework for tommorow, because I don't want to have an unpleasant suprise tommorow."
Komachi nodded in understanding as she moved to the side, motioning to Y/N to enter her household, "Come on in. I'll go get Honoka. He should be here in a moment."
Y/N nodded in return as did as he was told. He entered the Takamiya household as Komachi walked away from him, probably to get Honoka. He took off his shoes and put them aside, making sure to not mess up the cleaned entry that Komachi kept, before folding his arms, awaiting for Honoka to approach him. He titled his head to the side when he heard someone walking, excepting to see Honoka, but it wasn't him. He felt his eyes widen. It was a bear. A literally teddy bear which was walking around like a normal human being. The teddy bear ignored his presence and simply walked past him into another room, leaving suprised Y/N behind.
He was forced to hide his suprise a few seconds later, because it was when Honoka approached him, with Ayaka was walking by his side, "Hey, Y/N."
Y/N smiled at Honoka remembering about him preferring when people referred to him by his name instead of his last name, "You remembered about it this time."
"I did tell you I'll try to remember it for the next time we will speak." Honoka smiled back, "Why haven't you been to school in the last few days?"
"Remember when I went out to spend my time out in the city back on Saturday?" Y/N responded to Honoka's question with a question of his own. When Honoka nodded in confirmation, he explained, "It was a bad idea. I felt like a complete crap the day after and felt this way for the next couple of days. I was barely able to leave my bed on Sunday and Monday."
Honoka looked at him with a sympathetic look on his face, "I'm sorry to hear that."
"You don't have to be sorry. At least I got enough time to rest after the exams by doing all sort of stuff I enjoy doing in my free time." Y/N waved it off. He wouldn't call everything he said a lie, because he did do the stuff which he enjoyed doing in his free time when he wasn't busy training with Guthrum, "I thought about staying home for the rest of the week, but I went against it after doing some thinking. Staying home sure is fun, but dealing with arrears afterwards is a pain."
"This is why you're here?" Honoka asked, "You want to see my notes from the classes you missed in the past three days?"
"Exactly." Y/N nodded his head in confirmation, "Can you show me your notebooks, please?"
"Sure." Honoka replied as he turned away from Y/N to face the stairs to the upper part of his house, Ayaka following his example, "Come on. I'll lead you to my room."
Y/N nodded in understanding, appreciating Honoka's help as he followed Ayaka and Honoka up the stairs to the upper floor of the latters house. He began following them through the hallway towards Honoka's room right after he made his way up the stairs. He saw a few doors ahead of him. Most of them were closed, except for one, but he was not going to have much problem with telling which one belonged to Honoka, because each door had a sign saying who this room belonged to.
He glanced to the side to look into the room whch had opened door and much to his suprise, saw a certain dark blond haired girl with cat ears. Y/N narrowed his eyes once she saw Tanpopo sitting on the floor in the room he was about to pass by as a question popped into his mind upon spotting her. Why was she living in here? Wasn't she enemies with Honoka and Ayaka? He remembered seeing her and her friends attack Honoka and Ayaka the other day and remember seeing how their attack failed miserably, with Ayaka not even having to use magic to defeat them.
The girl he set his gaze on a few seconds ago was holding a scissors in her right hand as she was cutting out something which looked like a rabbit out of piece of paper in her other hand. This made Y/N realize one thing about Tanpopo. This girl must have really love rabbits. Her room in the Takamiya household was filled with all kinds of stuff related to this animal. Her desk in their classroom was filled with the stuff related to this animal as well. It was filled with all kinds of small rabbits of various sizes and colors.
Tanpopo looked up from what she was doing once she heard how someone stopped in the hallway and saw the foreign boy from her class standing in the entrance to her room. She exchanged a brief look with him and returned to what she was doing.
Having no need of staying where he stood and scanning through Tanpopo's room, Y/N pushed himself into walk again and followed Honoka and Ayaka into the formers room. There was one thing he couldn't help but wonder about when he was making his way along the hallway. The two rabbits he saw a few days ago flew through his head. Could have been Tanpopo's? It would make sense, considering her apparent liking of this animal.
He brought himself out of his thoughts relating Tanpopo when he entered Honoka's room where Honoka and Ayaka were waiting for him, the former holding a few notebooks in his hands. He must have grabbed them when Y/N was busy looking around Tanpopo's room, suprised by the view of her living in this household.
"Here." Honoka said the moment Y/N enter his room, coming closer to him, "This should be everything. You don't have to worry about returning the notebooks today. You can return them tommorow, before the classes will start."
"You don't need to worry about me having to return your notebooks." Y/N replied as he looked around Honoka's room. He had to admit one thing. His neighbour and classmate really like penguins, "I won't be taking them with me."
Honoka looked confused by it, "You won't be taking them? Why?"
Y/N responded to Honoka's confused expression by pulling his phone out from his pocket, "I will take some pictures of it. I will then rewrite everything from the pictures into my notebook. This way, neither of us will have to worry about me forgetting to return them to you."
"Okay." Honoka nodded, understanding Y/N's way of thinking. He turned towards his bed and asked, "Should I?"
"Yeah." Y/N nodded as Honoka placed his notebooks on his bed, before moving aside, leaving his neighbour enough space. Y/N walked over to Honoka's bed and began flipping through his notebooks, making sure to take pictures with his phone of everything he had missed during his absence, "Did anything happen in the school when I was absent?"
"No." Honoka replied, "You didn't miss anything. The school went as usual."
Y/N nodded as he took another picture of Honoka's notes, "Good to know. At least I didn't miss anything interesting during my absence."
He continued to take pictures of Honoka's notes for the next minute or two as Honoka and Ayaka watched him from their spots in silence. He ended taking more pictures of Honoka's notes than he actually excepted to take. He sighed internally once he browsed through all the pictures he took, knowing that re-writing all of this to his notebooks was going to take him a while. At least he won't have much problem with re-writing Honoka's notes to his notebooks, because his neighbours handwriting was far clearer than his.
"Okay. I think I have all the notes." Y/N said as he turned around to look at Honoka and Ayaka again, hiding his phone in his pocket, "Do we have any homework for tommorow?"
"Yes." Honoka replied, nodding his head, "Kayano-sensei has asked us to find something written in English and translate it to Japanese or something written in Japanese and translate it to English. It depends on what you will choose."
Y/N nodded his head in understanding as he made a mental note of it. It wasn't the first time when he and his classmates were given a homework like this by Kayano-sensei. She was their English teacher who from time to time asked her students to find something and translate it from their native Japanese to English or from English to Japanese as a way of improving their English skills. You could never cheat her by simply rewriting the ready work from the internet, because she always checked if the work was translated by you very carefully. A few of his classmates learned it the hard way. Y/N never had much problem with this, because of him living in America for a good portion of his life.
"You don't need to worry about having to get it done for tommorow." Honoka said, "Kayano-sensei is understanding. I'm sure she will give you a few extra days, because you weren't in school, when she gave us this homework."
"I don't think this will be the problem." Y/N waved off Honoka's concerns, "I already have a few ideas in my mind about what I should translate. I shouldn't have much trouble with translating it, because, you know."
"Alright." Honoka nodded his head in understanding, "If you say so."
"I should go now." Y/N said as he was about to turn away from Honoka and Ayaka, "I have everything I wanted and I have some re-writing ahead of me and I want to get it done before my bedtime."
Y/N turned away from Honoka and Ayaka and was about to walk out of the room, but Honoka's voice made him stop dead in his tracks, "Wait, Y/N. There's something else I think you should know about."
Y/N turned around to look at Honoka and Ayaka again, "What is it?"
"The results of the exams came today." Honoka explained, "Do you want to know how you ranked in our grade or do you want to see it for yourself tommorow?"
"You can tell me. I don't feel like waiting until tommorow." A relieved smile grew on Y/N' lips at the information of the exams not getting lost in the bombings, "Good to know the exams weren't lost in the bombings..." He cut himself off in the middle of the sentence and his eyes widened once he realized what he had just said to Honoka who looked at him weirdly. Knowing that he just made himself look suspicious in front of him and Ayaka, he quickly said to defuse the situation, his relieved smile vanishing from his lips, "Because I would die if I had to study for them and write them again, because, you know, studying for them was a pain."
Honoka looked at him weirdly as if he was wondering what he should say in response to Y/N's words as Ayaka kept looking at him with the same blank look on her face. Though, a bit of suspicion appeared in her eyes, which went unnoticed by Y/N and Honoka.
"Sorry." The foreigner rubbed the back of his head, trying to sell it to them as a bad joke which was the explanation he came up in the heat of the moment, "Bad joke. It sounded better in my head. I should have thought of something better or stay silent."
The new user of Grimoire Guthrum had to fight an urge to facepalm, knowing that his action might have raised some suspicion towards him from Honoka and Ayaka.
"You could have gotten a bit too comfortable while talking with them and it could have resulted in you mentioning something to them about me or something else that normal citizens, such as you before encountering me, have no knowledge of."
Y/N cursed himself mentally once Grimoire Guthrum's words from a few days ago flew through his mind, knowing he will have to do his best to hide how nervous he became after realizing what he had just done and try to play it off as if it was nothing important.
"Don't beat yourself up to it. It happens to everyone." Honoka's voice brought him out of his thoughts as Honoka told him about how he did in the exams, "You ranked twenty-ninth in the grade."
"I ranked twenty-ninth?" Y/N looked pleasantly suprised, even though the nervousness from a few seconds ago still remained inside him, "Not bad." He smiled to himself. All the studying he did for those exams has paid off, "This is a few spots better than the last time. How about you?" He shifted his gaze towards Ayaka for a brief moment, offering her a slight smile, "Because I don't think I need to ask about how well the school Princess did."
Ayaka remained silent, the suspicion not leaving her eyes.
"I did better than I thought to be honest." Honoka replied, "I ranked tenth in the entire grade." He shifted his gaze from Y/N to Ayaka, "Kagari-san's tutoring helped me a lot."
"You two spending a lot of time in the past several days has certainly paid off, huh?" Y/N stated.
Honoka looked slightly flustered by Y/N's statement as he glanced to the side, only to turn his gaze towards his neighbour again after a second. This action almost went unnoticed by Y/N, "You can say that." He glanced over his shoulder at Ayaka, offering her a grateful smile, "I really appreciate all the help I received from Kagari-san."
Y/N smiled at the slightly flustered Honoka. The way how he reacted to Y/N's teasing statement, which Y/N wasn't planning to be a teasing one, before he actually said it, reminded him of all the times when his older sister teased hm about something. Claire absolutely loved to tease him whenever she would get the opportunity to do so, leaving him all flustered. He lost the point of how many times she got him flustered to the point when he had to hide his face underneath something to his face. It was one of the few times in his life when he actually hated his sister.
The worst part about this was the fact that he couldn't even return the favor, because it was much harder to get her flustered than him. Not even mentioning her crushes from her TV shows and video games from the time when she was younger worked on her, because she was always admitted him to be right with a smile on her face.
"Is that everything?" He questioned Honoka after a brief moment of silence between them, "Or is there something else that I need to know?"
Honoka thought for a second, trying to remember if there was anything else he should mention to Y/N. He shook his head a few seconds later, "No. I don't think there is anything else you should know about."
"Alright." Y/N nodded in understanding, "I'll be heading out now. Thanks for the help. I appreciate it."
Honoka came over to Y/N's side, offering to him, "I'll walk you to the door."
Y/N nodded his head as he walked out of Honoka's room, followed by Honoka and Ayaka. They made their way down the stairs and walked over to the exit from the Takamiya household. Y/N grabbed his shoes once they reached it and put them on, ready to walk out of Honoka's house.
"Thanks for the help again." He told Honoka in a grateful tone after putting his shoes on, "At least I won't get an unpleasant suprise tommorow."
"No problem." Honoka nodded his head at his neighbour, offering a smile, "I was happy to help. At least I returned the favor to you after you showed me and Kasumi-chan around the school after we transfered there."
"I'll see you two tommorow in school." Y/N smiled back at him as he offered Honoka and Ayaka a wave of his hand to goodbye them. He turned away from them and grabbed the door handle, opening the door. He walked out of the Takamiya household and closed the door behind him, starting make his way towards his house.
Ayaka narrowed her eyes in suspicion at Y/N as she watched the foreign boy walk towards his house, knowing that he couldn't have known about the bombings, because the memories of this event were wiped out from the normal citizens by Mr. Mikage. He tried to play it off a joke, but she didn't bought it, because he seemed to have become genuinely once he mentioned it.
She will have to talk with Atori in school tommorow and tell her to keep an eye on Y/N for a day or two to make sure if her new suspicions towards the foreign boy from her and Honoka's class were correct.
It didn't took Y/N long to return to his home, because of him living only a few houses away from the Takamiya household. Less than a minute to be exact. After entering his home, he took off his shoes and he walked up the stairs. He made his way into his room, where Grimoire Guthrum was waiting for him on his seat in front of his desk. The floating book must have known he'd go straight into his room after getting the notes from Honoka.
"There you are, lad." Grimoire Guthrum said the moment he saw his user enter his room as he got up from Y/N's seat, now floating in the air, "Did you took care of everything you needed?"
"Yes." Y/N nodded in response as he walked over to his seat and sat down on it, now facing the monitor of his PC. He grabbed his mouse and clicked the icon of Google Chrome on the pulpit. The browser popped into his screen shorty after, "Honoka showed me everything I missed in the last few days. Now I just need to sit down and re-write everything into my notebooks."
"If you already have what you need, then why are you using the thing you call the internet on this machinery you call computer or PC?" Grimoire Guthrum wanted to know, "Weren't you supposed to get rid of your problem of your missing notes for your school?"
"I will take care of it in a moment." Y/N assured the floating book, "At first I want to take care of the homework which I need to bring tommorow. My English teacher asked my class to translate something from Japanese to English or from English to Japanese and bring her it tommorow. I want to do it first, because I won't have much trouble with it, and, because I want to get this over with."
"May I offered my assistance?" Grimoire Guthrum offered to help Y/N in his homework.
Y/N shifted his gaze from his monitor to Guthrum, "You can do that?"
"I am Grimoire Guthrum!" Grimoire Guthrum loudly declared in his usual proud manner, "Translating a mere story to another language will be nothing, but a mere nuisance to me!"
"If you say so, Guthrum." Y/N smiled slightly as he returned his gaze to his monitor, "If you want to help, then I'll be glad to accept your help. Maybe I will get over with faster than I normally would."
"With my assistance, you will surely get this task done much faster." Grimoire Guthrum lowered himself down, now looking at Y/N's monitor, "Did you already know what to translate or do you require my help in choosing it?"
"I already have an idea." Y/N responded and asked, "Remember when I told you about my love for the things related to SCP Foundation?"
"I do." Grimoire Guthrum replied to Y/N's question, "I wouldn't forget about it after a long explanation you gave me of it after I asked you about what you have hanging on your wall."
"Good." Y/N nodded, "There are tons of stories and reports relating this foundation across the internet. I'm sure I will find something that hasn't been translated from English to Japanese or from Japanese to English, yet."
He moved the cursor of his mouse towards the Youtube icon and clicked it two times, making this side pop into the screen of his monitor. He typed the name of the story he was willing to translate for his homework and immediately met with tons of results. He started browsing through the results, hoping to find what he was looking as soon as it was possible.
-------
Y/N got himself ready for the school after waking up in his bed the next morning. He started his day off by greeting Grimoire Guthrum who happened to be in his room when he opened his eyes and gathering everything he needed for the school day. He took a quick look into his backpack and made sure he had packed every notebook and textbook he would need today yesterday after finishing re-writing Honoka's notes and made sure to take his uniform out of his wardrobe. He slouched his backpack over his back and placed his uniform over his shoulder, intending to put on himself a bit later, before heading out of his room.
He made his way down the hallway into the bathroom and walked into it. After doing his morning routine in the bathroom, he walked out of the bathroom, now dressed in his school uniform and went to the kitchen where he prepared himself a quick breakfast and something to eat for the lunch break. He put his packed lunch in his backpack and walked over to the table where he ate his breakfast. His breakfast wasn't anything extraordinary, because he prepared himself toasts. He would have prepare himself his favourite breakfast, but he didn't have any eggs in the fridge.
After eating his breakfast, he placed the plate in the dishwasher and he checked what hour it was on his phone. He nodded his head, knowing it was time for him to go. He didn't want be late for the bus he usually took when he was making his way to his school. He slung his backpack over his back and said goodbyes to Guthrum. He didn't have to worry about Guthrum having nothing to do during his absence as he turned on the TV show which Guthrum was interested in seeing on the TV in the living room.
He walked out of his house and stepped into the sidewalk between the houses. He saw a few familiar faces who just like him were on their way to school. Honoka and Ayaka were walking with each other as Kasumi was walking with her friend whose name he did not know. He saw Tanpopo as well. She was flying away from the Takamiya household on her broom. He pushed himself into walk and began making his way towards his school, eventually catching up to Ayaka, Honoka, Kasumi and Kasumi's friend when they were waiting for the bus on the bus stop.
Honoka shifted his gaze from Ayaka at him the moment he saw how his neighbour stopped in front of the bus stop, next to Ayaka, "Morning, Y/N."
Y/N looked at Honoka nodded his head at him, "Morning." He shifted his gaze between all other people on the bus stop, "To all of you."
"Morning." Kasumi and her friend responded at the same time as Ayaka remained silent.
"How are you feeling today?" Honoka wanted to know how his neighbour was feeling on his first day of school after being sick for a few days.
"Except for the fact that I barely forced myself to get out of bed, I feel pretty good." Y/N answered, "Definitely better than I did on Sunday and Monday when I was barely able to leave my bed."
"I'm glad to hear that." Honoka nodded his head and asked out of curiosity, "Did took care of all of your arrears yesterday? Or did you left something to take care of today after school? I wouldn't be suprised if you did. I browsed through my notebooks yesterday after you left our house out of curiosity and there was indeed a lot of re-writing ahead of you."
"I took care of each missing note yesterday." Y/N responded, "It look me a long time to do so, longer than I excepted, and it almost drained my phone, but everything is written in my notebooks."
"What about the homework for Kayano-senseis class?" Honoka asked his neighbour another question.
"I did it as well." Y/N replied, "I know I could have ask her to give me a few extra days, because I wasn't in school when she gave our class this homework, but I wanted to get this over with as well." He shrugged his shoulders, "It's not like I would have much trouble with understanding English and translating it to Japanese."
"Looks like you were quite busy yesterday." Kasumi stated from her spot between her friend and Honoka.
"Yeah." Y/N agreed with her, nodding his head, "My right hand was seconds away from detaching itself from the rest of my body after I got everything done."
The bus arrived shorty after. The entrance to it was slid open and the five of them entered it. Ayaka was swarmed by her fans who began yelling all kinds of praises her way, like they did every morning as soon as she entered it. She reacted to it like she always did. She remained completely silent and stared ahead of herself. Y/N quickly made his way to the nearest free seat and sat down on it, not wanting to get caught between it. The bus started driving towards the next bus stop a few seconds later.
Kasumi clung into her brothers arm and attempted to drag him away to her seat, asking him if he was going to sit with her, but it was no use, as Honoka politely declined her offer and remained by Ayaka's side, much to Kasumi's dismay. Kasumi's friend came over to her and dragged her away from Honoka and Ayaka. Kasumi looked at Ayaka with a glare that would burn the entire forest to the ground as she walked away from her and her brother. She and her friend walked past Y/N and took their seats behind him.
Y/N turned his gaze away from what was happening between Ayaka and her fans, not interested in it, because it was quite normal and titled his head to the side towards the window of the bus. He glanced through the window and watched the passing buildings for the entire ride to his school in silence, though he couldn't help but feel as if someone was keeping an eye on him for the entire ride to school. He ignored this feeling, though, brushing it off as nothing important. The bus arrived at his school a few minutes later and Y/N got up from his seat and exited the vehicle along with his fellow students, ready to start his school day.
He made his way to his classroom and made his way to his seat in the back of it. He sat down on it, waiting for his first class to start. The school bell rang a few minutes later, when almost all of his classmates were inside the classroom. Tanpopo's friends were the only ones from his class who were missing. It would explain why Tanpopo was the only one from them heading to school on her broom earlier this morning. It looked like she would be the only one from her group present in school today. The teacher entered the classroom shorty after the bell rang and the class started right after.
Nothing unusual happened during the first class. Nothing unusual happened during the other classes until the lunch break today either. Today has proven itself to a pretty regular school day where nothing interesting happened, at least for now. The only thing thing which Y/N found to be rather interesting happened during P.E when Honoka absolutely destroyed his and Ayaka's opponent during a tennis match. Y/N would't think much of it, if Honoka hadn't proven hmself to be pretty average in sports earlier. He wasn't the only one who noticed it, though. His classmates noticed it too, which resulted in a lot of suprised comments from them relating Honoka.
After the P.E class came to an end, the lunch break has come. Y/N made his way into the roof where he usually ate his lunch. He always liked eating his lunch on the roof, because it was never crowded like any other places in his school. This way, he could eat his lunch and could listen to his favourite music in peace and quiet. As he was on the way to his favourite spot on the roof, he walked past the edge of it and glanced down at the courtyard below him.
He saw Ayaka talking with a blue haired girl with cat ears whose name he did not know. The two of them talked with each other for a few more seconds before parting ways. Ayaka went to her usual spot and sat down next to Honoka as the blue haired girl took her seat on their right not too far from next to some black haired girl with short hair and glasses he didn't knew the name of. Though, he couldn't help but feel as if the blue haired cat eared girl send him a quick glance, before getting herself down on her knees on the blanket next to her friend.
He saw a familiar blue haired girl sitting on Honoka and Ayaka's left side. Her name was Touko Hio. He knew her from his favourite maid cafe, because she was working there as a maid. They didn't interact much in school, though. They only interacted with each other whenever she would happen to be on her shift in the maid cafe which was actually pretty often. He actually saw her pretty often whenever he was spending his time out in the city, for example when he was going out to get some groceries, because she was working in the grocery store as well. In fact, she was working in a lot of places in this city for some reason.
His gaze was shifted somewhere else when a music started ringing through his ears. His gaze went towards the source of the music and saw a group of Ayaka's fans who had set up an entire music equipment in front of her, as if it was some sort of a concert, and started playing music for her. Y/N wasn't suprised by it, because they were doing it every day. How were able to prepare all of this in such a short amount of time? Y/N had no idea. It's not like he was very interested in finding out about it either.
Not having the reason to continue watching everyone below him from the roof, Y/N turned his gaze away from the courtyard and turned around to the other side. He made his way to his favourite spot on the roof and sat down on the floor. He began preparing himself to eat his lunch afterwards.
He took off his backpack and put it aside. He unzipped it and took out his lunch which he had prepared for himself this morning. He carefully placed it on his set, not wanting to spill it all over the floor, before setting his feet on the elevation in front of him. He took out his phone and unlocked it, before reaching into his pocket and pulling out earbuds. He placed his earbuds and connected them to his phone. The music which happened to be a soundtrack from Doom started ringing through his ears shorty after. He smiled to himself, liking the sound of it. He wasn't a big fan of metal, but the soundtrack of this game was truly making him question if he was a fan of this type of music or not.
He leaned his back against the wall behind him and began eating his lunch right away. He smiled to himself, enjoying his time in this place. After all, what was the better way to spend lunch break than eating his lunch in his favourite place with the music created by Mick Gordon ringing through his ears?
He didn't get to enjoy his lunch for long, though. His sandwich fell out of his grasp and landed on the floor as he started shaking from his right side to his left side as the ground below him shook for some reason. He took his earbuds out from his ears and looked around himself, trying to figure out what the heck was going on around him. He got up from the floor and ran to the edge of the roof after he heard some screaming, wanting to know if the people on the courtyard were experiencing the same thing as he did at the moment.
He glanced at the courtyard and saw two large rocks on the ground between Ayaka and Honoka. The ground beneath the said rocks was cracked. The courtyard was a lot less populated than it was a few minutes. A lot of Ayaka's fans quickly fleed from the scene and he couldn't really blame them for doing so. Only a few people remained on their spots. Ayaka was crouching down in front of Honoka who was crouching down as well, Touko was looking at her empty ice cream cone, mourning the loss of her lunch as the blue haired girl with cats ears and the black haired girl with glasses and short hair were clutching themselves.
It wasn't long, a few seconds, to be exact before he found out who was responsible for all of this. He saw three girls, most likely witches, standing on some sort of elevation above the people on the courtyard. Their entire attention seemed to be set on Ayaka and Honoka, because those two rocks were placed between those two. He noticed a few large and medium sized rocks behind the three witches. One of the must have been capable of doing magic which allowed her to move rocks around, no matter the size of the rock, as if it was nothing.
He couldn't tell how the two of of the witches that just attacked the courtyard looked like, because one was wearing a mask to hide her face, and the other one had her face covered by the hood of her robe. He could at least tell how the third one looked like. She had a blond air and was short, shorter than her comrades. Her nails were very long, definitely longer than the ones of a regular human and sharpened. A lot of small rocks were floating behind her. The two large rocks on the courtyard must have been her doing. Or it could have been one of her companions. He had no idea. He would have been there to see it himself to determine it.
He was brought out his thoughts when he heard how one of those unknown witches cried out, "...Today shall be the day we avenge Miss. Weekend!"
Y/N titled his head to the side a bit upon hearing this name. Who was this Weekend? What kind of name was Weekend, anyway? He quickly abandoned those thoughts when he saw how Ayaka grabbed Touko by her head and lifted her up above herself as if it was nothing. She threw Touko towards the three witches in front of her shorty after as Touko shrieked. A bright light appeared in the area surrounding Touko and the three unknown witches shorty after. Y/N was forced to lift his hand up to cover his eyes, because of how bright and blinding this light was.
He uncovered his eyes a few seconds later and felt how his eyes almost jumped out of their sockets in suprise. A large iceberg was now standing in the courtyard, almost covering the entire place. Touko, who was clutching herself into a ball was trapped within it along with the three unknown witches who attacked the courtyard. The people who remained on the courtyard after the attack were starting to make their way out of it, because the ice was starting to head their way.
Y/N turned away from the courtyard and started walking towards his backpack. He rubbed the back of his head after seeing what just happened on the courtyard, thinking to himself, "...So, Touko is a witch, just like Ayaka, Tanpopo and her friends and the chairwoman. I can't think of another of another reason to why she would be capable of creating an iceberg in the middle of the courtyard."
He shook his head as those thoughts flew through his mind as he picked up his backpack from the floor and slouched it over his back. He wasn't even suprised by seeing magic at this point. He was already used to seeing it after all the time he had spend around Grimoire Guthrum in the last few days. What happened on the courtyard just made him wonder about how many people from his school were magic users.
"At least I will have something to tell Guthrum about when I get home." He thought to himself, intending to inform Guthrum about this incident as he started making his way towards the exit from the roof. He rubbed his hands together and blew the air into them to warm them up, "...Why is it so cold all of the sudden?"
-----
Y/N didn't went on his training with Grimoire Guthrum yesterday after he was done with school like he had originally planned to, because he was unable to do so. After the incident between the witches which had happened in his school during lunch break, the entire city was met with one of the biggest coldstorms it has ever had. It felt as if the winter had come a few months early to the city. He was barely able to return to his house without getting hyphotermia in the process. He immediately ran into his room and covered himself with his duvet after entering his house, wanting to warm himself up after walking through the snowy streets in nothing, but his school uniform.
Fortunely, he didn't have to deal with cold temperatures today, because the weather completely changed from the cold snowy one which he and the entire city had to deal with for most of the previous day to the old sunny one which perfectly fitted this time of the year and the nearing summer. The effect which caused this sudden change of temperature created by the events which happened yesterday on the courtyard of his school during lunch break must have worn off during the night.
Y/N noticed one thing earlier this day. The people, the regular ones who had no knowledge about magic, seemed to completely forget about how cold it was yesterday. He overhead some of the conversations between some people from this city and some of his fellow students from the school. He normally wouldn't overhear the conversations of the other people, but this time he made an exception. A lot of them were talking about how hot it was since yesterday. He didn't try asking anyone if they remember about cold temperatures which attacked their city yesterday, because he didn't want to raise more suspicions towards himself like he did when he visited the Takamiya household two days ago.
Nothing unusual happened for the rest of the day. The school went as usual, without anything weird happening. After ending his classes, Y/N made his way back to his home, where he made himself some food and ate it, before heading out with Guthrum to do some training in their training grounds.
Right now, they were standing in the middle of the warehouse as they were middle of another training session of theirs. Y/N was wearing his robe and was holding his cane in front of him, as if he was pointing it at someone. Grimoire Guthrum was floating behind him, on the level of his head, giving him instructions on what he was supposed to do if he wanted to cast Dark Blast.
"...Remember, lad, don't try to force it. Relax your body." The floating book reminded his user to not try to force the magic projectile out of him like he did when he started to learn this spell, because it won't be any use to him and he will fail to cast it. Taking a deep beath, Y/N closed his eyes and made sure to relax his body as best as he could, holding his cane in front of him, intending to make a magic projectile fly out of it today, "Remember, the first time is always the hardest one."
Y/N let out another deep breath, feeling as relaxed as ever, as he continued to stare ahead of him with his eyes closed for the next few seconds. It was when he felt some strange essence filling up his body. He had never felt anything like that. This was just something completely new to him. He opened his eyes, wanting to know if something had changed around him and his eyes almost jumped of their sockets right after he opened them.
He saw a red magic projectile, a ball to be exact, which he had gotten to know as Dark Blast after presentation of this spell he saw from Grimoire Guthrum a few days ago flying away from him and Guthrum towards the wall ahead of them. The projectile hit the wall at the end of the warehouse and disappeared, leaving a small red mark on the wall it just hit. The mark which faded away from the wall into nothingness a few seconds later.
Y/N's eyes were refusing to close as he had just witnessed it happen before his very own eyes. He did it! He casted his very first spell! He finally managed to cast Dark Blast! Guthrum was right. He was indeed trying too hard during his previous attempts at casting this spell. If he was more relaxed, then perharps he would have done it sooner. He made sure to make a mental note of it for the future. He will make sure to be more relaxed when he will be learning other spells from Grimoire Guthrum.
"I did it!" A huge smile grew on his face as if he had just ranked first in his grade as he looked up at Grimoire Guthrum, "I casted Dark Blast!
"You did good, lad." Grimoire Guthrum complimented his new user on managing to release his first red ball of red energy which he had known as Dark Blast. The first step in Y/N's training of his spells was completed. He had casted his very first spell. Now, Y/N just had to master it to the point where he will be able to cast as many red magic projectiles as he will desire to, at anytime he will want, without any problem.
Y/N smiled at the praise he had received from Grimoire Guthrum, gladdened by it, because he hasn't gotten many of those from his parents in his life, mostly because of them being absent for most of them time, which was caused by their work which often required of them to travel around by plane. It was one of the less bright sides not having his parents around for most of the time. This is why he always appreciated a praise whenever he received one either from his sister or a teacher from his school for solving an exercise on the blackboard.
He offered the floating book a grateful smile as he continued to look up at him, "Thanks, Guthrum."
One more realization popped into his mind as soon as those words left his mouth. It was the first time when he heard Guthrum praise someone other than himself since he stumbled upon him in his school. His smile turned into a more of a teasing one as he was not going to let this opportunity go to waste.
"Hold on a second. Am I hearing right or did my ears just played a trick on me?" He questioned as he brought his free hand closer to his right ear and rubbed it as if he was checking if he was hearing correctly, "Did Grimoire Guthrum just praised someone other than himself? It was a genuine praise at that, where I don't have to think if I should consider it a praise or not?"
"Don't get used to it." Grimoire Guthrum replied, unamused by his users unfunny attempt at annoying him, "I'm merely praising you for a job well done to encourage to continue to do well, like any good teacher would."
"I know." Y/N nodded his head, letting out a quick laugh, "I'm just messing with you, Guthrum."
Grimoire Guthrum let out an irritated sigh, clearly not amused by Y/N making this annoying remark just to mess with him for his own amusement, "Don't make take it back with your unfunny attempt at irritating me. Did you forgot? A praise from me is rare thing and you should feel honored by earning one, instead of thinking how to irritate me!"
The floating book was not trying to show it in his tone as he masked it with irritation after Y/N's annoying remark, but he actually felt kind of proud of his new user managing to cast his first spell after two days of attempting to do so, which he wouldn't show much to him other than a simple praise. He actually felt proud and this time his pride was directed towards someone else, someone who wasn't him. He wasn't exactly sure how he should react to this feeling. He didn't felt anything like this since his awakening in Y/N's school, where he was discovered by his current user. It simply felt like something completely new to him. If he felt something like this sometime in the past, then he couldn't remember it, because of his memory loss.
Perharps it was just how teachers felt with their apprentices whenever they succeeded at something or whenever they learned something new. He had no idea. He couldn't remember his previous users. He had no idea if they were someone like Y/N, someone who have never used magic in their life before encountering him or if they already were magic users at the time of becoming his user. It was probably the latter, but he still couldn't really tell. If there was one thing he hated more than people not referring to him like he desired to, then it was definitely the memory loss he had suffered during his slumber.
He brought himself out of his thoughts, wanting to focus on something else, and spoke to his user again after a moment of staying silent, "Can we return to your training? Try to cast it again. It should be easier for you now. Remember what I said. Don't try to do too much, because it will get you nowhere. You have to be relaxed as if it was a normal thing to you."
"Sure." Y/N nodded his head at the floating book as he shifted his gaze from him at the wall where the magic projectile left a mark a few moments earlier, ready to return to his training, looking forward to see if he will be able to cast more red magic projectiles today, "Let's see if I'll be able to cast more of those today."
He and Grimoire Guthrum had no idea they were being watched through one of the windows of the abandoned warehouse. They were simply too focused on Y/N's training and him managing to cast Dark Blast for the first time to notice it.
A certain blue haired witch with cat ears looked through one of the windows of the abandoned warehouse, her eyes set on the boy and the floating book inside the building. A camera was held in her hands. She followed Y/N throughout the city after finishing the school for the day to see if Ayaka's suspicions about him were true. She used her camera to take a few pictures of him. The pictures which she took of him mostly consisted of him interacting with Grimoire Guthrum or doing some witch stuff, like flying his broom. The recent picture she had of Y/N was him releasing a magic projectile which she assummed to be one of the spells which Grimoire Guthrum and now Y/N as well were capable of doing.
Even though, her expression was not showing it as she wore the same expression on her face for most of the time, Atori was actually kind of suprised to see Y/N in possession of Grimoire Guthrum. He didn't really stand out from the other students in the heir school, because he always preferred to keep to himself. This arose one more question in her head. How was Y/N able to find Grimoire Guthrum during the entire fiasco with Weekend? The normal citizens of this city were put in a safe place and the memories of this event were erased from their minds afterwards by Mr. Mikage. He couldn't be a magic user back then, because he seemed to be still mastering basic stuff such as flying his broom.
She made sure to observe how these two interacted as well, wanting to know the relationship between these two. These two seemed to be on the friendly terms with each other. Maybe excepting for the one time when Grimoire Guthrum made a remark about himself being all powerful and imporant, which annoyed even her as she watched them from the background, completely unspoted by either of them. Nevertheless, they seemed to talk with each other pretty casually when they were not training, because it was when their relatioship turned into a more of a teacher would have with their apprentice.
She continued to watch them for the next half an hour and got the chance how Y/N managed to cast this projectile at least two more times which made him smile widely everytime when he casted it which only seemed to confirm her theory about him someone who just recently started their magic training. She considered taking the pictures of the other two times when he casted this picture, but ultimately went against it, thinking that one picture she already took of it will be enough.
She watched them for another ten minutes, before deciding it was time to leave and inform Ayaka about it. She normally would have stay longer to get more material, but this time, she believed she had all the material she needed. She had the pictures to confirm Ayaka's theory and had observed them long enough to know if these two were on friendly terms with each other. It's not like Y/N and Grimoire Guthrum were planning to stay in their training grounds for any longer. They seemed to be readying themselves to leave as well as Y/N summoned his broom which was followed by Grimoire Guthrum making a comment about him trying not to crash into a building this time.
She made her way to the Takamiya household and stopped in front of the window of Ayaka's room. The taller girl was inside her room at the moment. Good. She won't have to wait for her. She knocked the window a few times, earning Ayaka's attention. Ayaka walked over to the window and opened it, allowing Atori to climb through it.
"Atori. What are you doing in here?" Ayaka asked her right after she climbed into her room through the now opened window, "Weren't you supposed to watch over Y/N to see if he has any involvement in Grimoire Guthrum's disappearance?"
Atori remained silent as she held the pictures she took of Y/N and Grimoire Guthrum to her during her investigation of this boy, knowing that this answer would be enough for the taller girl to understand why she came to visit her earlier than she should.
Ayaka took the pictures from her and looked through each one of them carefully. She nodded her head to herself after she saw the last picture which presented Y/N casting a red magic projectile which she learned from her mom to be known as Dark Blast. Her suspicions turned out to be correct. The foreign boy from her and Honoka's class was indeed in possession of Grimoire Guthrum.
She knew she couldn't wait long with this information. She will have to call her mom and each one of the five Workshop Witches guarding this city and tell them about it. They will decide what to do with this information afterwards.
-----
I'm so happy that I got this chapter out before 2021 ended.
The secret is out, because of Y/N getting too comfortable while talking with Honoka. I know it may feel rushed to some of you, but I wasn't planning for it to remain a mystery for long.
The next chapter will be about Ayaka and Atori informing Kazane and the other Workshop Witches about Y/N being in possession of Grimoire Guthrum and confronting him about it afterwards.
Happy New Year Everyone! I wish you all the best in 2022!
