Chapter 2
Oi there!!! It is the dick head that took forever to finish chapter 2 and doesn't have a good excuse for why. Sssooo yeeeaaaa.... Let me just say it involved the end of a semester and the new GOW 4. Anyway, I would like to answer a critique from both IReadRWBYThings and MarcusSteinkamp.
The two responses for not providing a recap of the past six years is that 65% of that time isn't worthwhile nor worth writing about, and I want to save the important parts of those six years for appropriate times.
Now, that I am finally back, let us continue the story.
---??? POV
Ooooh, finally some fresh air. As I stepped away from the air ship, I enjoyed the smell of everything but vomit. You see, shortly after the funny show the two girls put on ended, my nose caught a whiff of the vile aroma coming from the trash can. Though the poor dude from earlier got blamed for making the rest of our short trip uncomfortable, I know that my contribution was worse than his. After plenty of times I am able to tell what my messes smell like.
Anyway, the air ship landed on the landing area which allows us to exit it and allow "Barf Boy", as the crowd has started to call him, to run out and hit another can. I made my way to the auditorium so that Ozpin can inform all of us on what he as the headmaster and the rest of the school expects from us and vice versa. I set my legs on auto pilot as I whistled a little tune. "BOOM" I flinched and nearly jumped behind a pillar. Looking at the direction of the explosion, I see the shorter girl from before being berated by another girl in a white, formal dress. Now that they spooked me, I focused on them a bit more.
The girl from before had short dark hair that had a touch of red in it, and a long red cape draped around her neck and flowing behind her. The other girl's hair was solid white and put up into a high pony-tail with a tiara sticking out. Both girls where wearing....uhm, how do I put this nicely? "Battle" dresses...Yea let's go with that. The shorter one's was more outdoorsy like with black and red color pallet while the bitchy one's was formal look, white with red interior. Both of them had short puffy skirts that are a bit ridiculous for the fact that we are going to be hunters and huntresses.
While the two started to argue and a third girl in a more believable black uniform approached them, I felt something bumping into my left boot. I looked down and see a clear vial with a yellow powder in it. Reaching down and picking the vial up, I noticed that it had a lightning bolt symbol on it and a cork for a stopper. "Electrical dust, huh?", I said wondering why someone would need so much dust. "Click" "Clack" went the sound of heels that were getting closer and closer. As I notice a hand trying to snatch the small bottle out of my hand, I jerked it out of reach. "Hey!", the princess exclaimed. "That is Schnee property you are holding. It obviously has more worth than you so I suggest you return it at once!"
"Dear above, you are annoying", I stated with aggravation written on my face. She took a deep and frustrated sigh and said, "Great, another child that doesn't belong here and will most likely get themselves killed." "Oh, you don't think I can handle myself here?", I thought. I used my thumb and flicked the cork off of the small vile like a fresh bottle of wine. The shock and fear in her eyes was priceless as I poured the powder down my throat. When it hit my stomach acid, the dust activated and caused all the muscles throughout my body to spasm. After five or so minutes, my body calmed down and I looked her dead in the eyes. "I can handle myself just fine", I remarked as I passed her and tossed the empty bottle to her. Now after that shocking experience, I think it is time to head to the Main Hall.
As I go through the huge doors to the building, I saw that not very many of the students have arrived. Seems that not having a guide to tell the students about the layout of the academy and what-nots had gotten the others lost. Never the less, I need to keep myself entertained while I wait. Let's see. Any form of drug or strong drink is prohibited on school grounds, so I can not get drunk. The training grounds are closed until after the team initiation tomorrow, making that as not optional. Glynda and Ozpin are probably getting ready for the announcement, and it will take too long to go back to the city, hit up a club, and get back here on time. I sigh. Has it come to this? Going and having small talk with the newbies this soon?
Let's see. I can go talk to the red head standing by the entrance like she was waiting for someone. Since she wore more armor than most of the females, we could probably talk about how to approach a Grimm or how you could defend certain attacks, that is until whoever she is waiting for comes through the door. I could go entertain "Professor" Port's imagination of how great of a huntsman he was back forty to fifty years ago. Oh! I know, I can go talk to one of the solid color individuals that I cannot even make out there faces!
A hand on my shoulder caused my cheeky thought to vanish and for me to jump away from the intrusive hand. Stopping short from nailing the person, I saw that it was Mister Oobleck. "Jeez, Bartholomew!", I barked out. "You know that I don't like people sneaking up on me, nor do I like being grabbed out of the blue." "First off", he pronounced calmly as he adjusted his glasses. "It is Doctor Oobleck, since I am one of your professors for the next few years. Secondly, the only way we are going to improve your tendency to lash out when startled is to practice it", He finish in his usual fast paced speech. "First off, you are not my teacher unless I pass the trial tomorrow," I mockingly retorted to him. "Secondly, I don't want to 'get used to it' because my fight or flight has kept me alive all this time." "You and I both know you have the highest chance of passing the test tomorrow than any other student here", he stated. "Also, that paranoia you have might help you when you are alone, but what about when you are on a team." I sigh as he reminded me of that problem. "That in of itself might make me flunk this test." "Professor Goodwitch would not be pleased, especially since both her and Ozpin have helped you so much to get to this point", he told me. "You believe she would be really mad at me if I did that?", I asked childishly to Bartholomew. "Oh, I would be livid", I heard Glynda's voice from behind me.
Fucking hell must everyone sneak up on me today! After calming myself down from the second heart attack, I saw Glynda standing there with her crop in hand, arms crossed, and her foot tapping the floor. She did not look amused. "So Professor Goodwitch, how is your day going," I nervously said trying to lighten the mood. "Your hair looks wonderful today and your attire...", she cut off my kiss-assing by leaning in close with her eye piercing through my sunglasses and into my soul. "You. Are. Not. Failing. This. Trial. Am. I. Making. My-self. Clear?", she spelled out each word, daring me to refuse. "Yes ma'am", I replied quick and precisely. "Good", she said just as quick. Yeeeaaah....., fuck that. It is one thing to piss off a random woman you bump into; pissing of one that is either a room away from you or has a set of keys to your dorm is a whole different story.
Her expression softened into a smile as she asked me how my day was doing. "Well", I started coyly. "The trip on the air ship was fun since two girls ran around it flailing their arms. And one of them blew up in the courtyard." She raised her right eye brow, confused. So after going into more detail, she said, "Well, it sounds like you have had an interesting day today. Tell me though, have you made any new friends?" Letting out a aggravated sigh, I said "You ask this every time, Glynda; I don't like being around people for reasons we all know, so why would I want to go make friends if I am not going to hang around them?" She hung her head and shook it. "Peter", she started, looking at me with worried eyes. "We know that you do not like people, and that you can basically handle yourself when needed, however, there will come a time when you cannot handle the threat before you, and before you say it, me, Ozpin, or one of the teachers will not always be there to save you." I shrugged, not really knowing how to answer that. "I guess I will have to figure that out when it happens", I halfheartedly retorted.
Glynda sighed before telling me that she will talk to me after the trial. I waved her goodbye before turning back to Bartholomew. "So, I see that you will refer to Miss Goodwitch with respect, but not me?" He asked with an eyebrow raised passed his glasses. Dodging his question, I asked, "So..., what will some of my curriculum entail for me this semester?" "Oooohhh, I'm glad you asked", he said with enthusiasm. "Well, we will be starting off with the exiting nature of..." Each second felt like hours and I stood there asking why the hell did I start the conversation. When Ozpin started speaking into the microphone, it was like the voice of a deity saving me from a pit of insanity. "I'll...keep this brief", Ozpin started off. His speech went over how the school will provide the students with the tools and training to become hunters, but it is up to us to take the first step. After his speech, Glynda stepped forward and exclaimed, "You will all gather in the ball room tonight. Tomorrow initiation begins. Be ready", she ended. "Damn it", I muttered under my breath. I was hoping to be at my dorm tonight, so I can break into my stash, and I know that one of the snitches will rat me out if they see ANY of my goods.
Dropping my shoulders and letting out a groan, I walked out of the building and made my way to the ball room along with the other students. No point in complaining about something that you can't fix, right? As I make my way into the ball room, I pick out a spot by the window that I will be spending the night by. Three hours passed while night fell and I found myself leaning on the wall at my spot. Most of the other students had already gone to bed, probably to get some kind of edge tomorrow, which left a handful of us still awake. Since I adjust myself out of the moon light and most of the interior lights are out, I decided that it was safe to lose one of these hoodies and provide some relief. I moan lowly as my numb ears finally had the chance to move, even if it was only a little. The sound of a match being struck caught my attention as I quickly flatten my ears. However, as I look towards the other side of the room, from which the sound came from, I see a girl set by the wall with a candle to the right if her and a book in her hand. She wore black pajamas that matched her hair and had a bow of the same color on top of her head.
Actually, now that I think of it, there has been a strange, feral aroma in this room. Beforehand I barely noticed it and just scratched it off as myself; but now that I am focusing on this girl, I can tell that it is coming from her. She is definitely a faunus, probably a cat one from the fact that I was confusing her scent for mine. And from how perfect that bow is sitting on her head, I am guessing that she is hiding her faunus ears. "Uuummm," I contemplated what I should do with this info. Finally, I decide to keep her secrete just that, for I had no right to dive into her life nor who is after her.
Shortly after she lit the candle and started to read, the two girls from the airship decided to go talk to her. Well, it was more like the blonde haired one was dragging the short one to make some friends. Feeling a bit curious, I adjusted my hoody and ears so that they were pointing towards the small group. "Who knows", I sarcastically thought with a smirk; "I might get an advantage of my own." I quiet my thoughts and focused on them.
Near the beginning of the conversation, I herd the one in black mention the explosion this morning. "Uuuhh, yea!", the short deep redhead nervously stated. "My name is Ruby, but you can just call me crater fa...actually, you can just call me Ruby", she tried with a 'not-so-subtly' save. "Oook", the bow wearing one said in an 'I am totally listening' tone as she continued to read. "What are you doing", asked the blond one to the now known Ruby. "I don't know help me!", Ruby frantically whispered back. The blond one asked the bow girl for her name which she replied that it was Blake. The blond one then introduced herself as Yang. Suppressing the laughter that threatened to come forth, I watched amused at how this "Yang" tried to get the two to start a conversation, Ruby trying to be friendly but ending up awkward, and Blake getting more and more aggravated about how the two in front of her just won't leave her alone.
"Yea, she is a lost cause", Yang stated as she gave up. I frowned, thinking that my show just ended. That is to say, until Ruby asked an abrupt and strange question. "What is it about?" Blake seemed confused, so Ruby said, "Your book; does it have a name?" Blake went on to explain that it was about someone with two souls, with each wanting control over the body. While Yang tries to seem interested, Ruby stated how she loves to read books about heroes and heroines fighting monsters and how it inspired her to become a huntress. "And why is that?" Blake asked, "Hoping that you will live happily ever after?" "Well, I hope we all will" Ruby responded, "As a little girl, I wished to become just like those heroes from the books. One who fought for what was right and protect people that couldn't protect themselves." "That's very ambitious for a child", Blake says with a happy and joyful expression. Her smile dropped with the edge of her eyebrows. "Unfortunately", Blake started, "the real world is not the same as a fairy tale" How true her words are. "Well, that is what we're here for," Ruby stated without a shadow of a doubt, "to make it better."
Yang came by and picked her up into a bear hug while I stood there staring at Ruby. Though I could not see her face to see if she was telling the truth, the way she said it sounded so...sincere. As the group got into more shenanigans, I put my hoods back on for the night and sighed... I have heard enough. As I turn to look at the moon through the window, I contemplated on what Ruby had said for the rest of the night. "The world could use more heroes like she described," My thoughts pondered. I tightened my crossed arms and thought, "it could use less monsters as well."
Please continue to leave comments and let me and RaginSavage know all of your thoughts of this work. God bless and stay groovy. ;)
