Chapter 2: Realizations

I fell back into my bed, hearing the faint laughing of Marik and the other Demons whom had once surrounded me. The only thing that told me that the past experience I had just returned from was in no way a dream, my pulse... I had no pulse. I even grabbed and used my Apple Watch to try and measure my heartbeat. The watch read exactly as I had expected. 0 beats per minute.

I also couldn't breathe, My lungs had stopped. I looked at my skin, would it start to rot off? I hope not. I swear once I see that demon Marik when I die... Well there's nothing I can do anyways, I'm Death now. Time is all I have now, time until my life is changed forever.

M/N: Y/N Please bring the trash cans down!

My mother, I was curious about this power I now posessed, would it work? Should I test it? Cover it up as a result of bad luck. No! What am I thinking?

Me: Alright mom!

I called back, lifting the plastic bagn out of my room's trash can, before I brought it down to my mom who was waiting at the bottom of the stairs.

M/N: Y/N, you look pale. Has something happened? You look like you've seen a ghost?

I sighed even though I needed to breathe to do that, I somewhow was able to perform the action as well as I could without my breath, looking at my mother.

Me: Yes mom, I've seen ghosts... Ghosts and, demons...

I said, dumping the trash into the can my mother held. She only blankly stared back, as I made my way up the stairs. She apparantly shrugged it off, since I did not hear her call to me for a conversation. Since it was a school day tommorow, though Homework was never assigned yesterday, I decided to spend my first day as Death playing games on the Xbox.

Me: "Ain't this an ideal activity for the Grim Reaper?"

I asked myself. Logging onto Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Yes I get what you're thinking, I have a freakin' Apple Watch, yet I have an old-ass CoD game. I have unique tastes.

Timeskip

If there was a contest for lamest Grim Reapers throughout history, I'm pretty sure the title would go to me, lying around in a room cluttered and messed up. On my bed with the oldest Generation of IPod in my hand, a hand me down from my father, filled with old 80's AC/DC, Micheal Jackson and Guns n' Roses shit. Not like I'm conplaining though.

I looked at my clock, 8:48. Close enough. I guess I could sleep now. Plopping down on the bed, I closed my eyes, except I found another small flaw in my new contract with Marik.

Me: Shit... Death cannot sleep...

It was then I heard Marik's voice enter my room. As the demonic entity rose up from the floor from black ash. His humanoid figure formed up as I sat up in my bed, unaffected by the fear factor that Marik, being a demon, brought with him.

Marik: I guess there are some things that I think I kinda should've told you back in the Demon realm.

Me: Oh, you cannot begin to explain it Marik...

Marik: As Death you cannot sleep, since Death is supposed to be working 24/7. Death cannot be harmed, you can get shot, stabbed, mutilated... but you'll never die.

Me: Except when...

Marik: Death of Death? Ah yes, the lifespan of the Grim Reaper varies to the triple of the human's remaining life prior to their signing of the contract.

Me: How old was the last Reaper?

Marik thought about it for a moment. He then snapped in realization.

Marik: Old guy was... 80 yeah. He had at leasst 16 years left to live. So that got multiplied to...

Marik zoned out, trying to calculate the equation. I sighed, responding to Marik's stalled question.

Me: 48 Years?

Marik: Oh, thank you human. Man that was a lot of wasted brainpower.

Marik admitted with effort, wiping a few dozen beads of sweat off his forehead.

Me: Great, I'll have to wait hours until it's daylight. All the while a... six foot tall ugly bastard watches over me.

Marik: Aw, Y/N that hurt.

He held a hand to hsi nonexistent heart, as he frowned jokingly,

Me: Surprised you can even feel something.

I joked.

Marik: Surprised such a lonely human like you even has a sense of humor.

He responded. I chuckled a bit. Conversing with a Demon actually was more entertaining than I thought it out to be... I guess I could begin to test my powers tomorrow at school.
