Chapter 2
"Don't break her heart.."
♢ ♢
Draco's POV
Opening the letter slowly, I tore apart the Slytherin mark which was branded onto the envelope. My eyes drifted over the words, reading:
To Draco,
The Dark Lord has created bridges with Ms. Zabini and as a result, the Dark Lord has told me to inform you that her son, Blaise Zabini, can also be trusted and must be used wisely. Have him watch over Olivia while you are not around, but do not allow them to get too close, I still have my uncertainties concerning Ms. Zabini, but for the time, I see no immediate danger.
After reading this letter, proceed to burn it.
Snape
Throwing the letter into the fire, I sighed. "What's wrong, Draco, dear?" My mother asked innocently. Shaking my head with a sigh, I replied.
"Nothing..."
"You know, Malfoy, to say you're the son of a loyal Death Eater, you do seem to be rather soft? Seems to me like she's an obsession, which would explain the over-protectiveness.." Blaise mumbled from the side of me as we finished our dinner.
I didn't look at him, instead I played with my food. "I have to protect her, it's my job" I mumbled. "She's in danger.."
He chuckled. "Aren't we all?"
I slammed my fork down, "No, not like she is, okay? Don't get involved with our personal stuff"
"'Our'?" He chuckled. "Anyone would think you're joined at the hip" He smirked, chuckling again.
With a growl I turned away from him. "Draco.." Pansy's voice drifted into my ears as she placed her hand on mine. "Are you okay? You seem stressed.." Her voice was sweet and angelic but it wasn't the true Pansy.
Opening my mouth to speak, Dumbledore cleared his throat, gathering everyone's attention. "And now, before we conclude this evening, I must announce this years prefects" Everyone began clapping and smiling.
"So, for that, I shall begin with Hufflepuff" The Hufflepuff table cheered and clapped again. "The Prefects for Hufflepuff are, Ernie Macmillan and Hannah Abott!" Dumbledore smiled as the clapping died down.
"Ravenclaw Prefects are.." He started as people finished congratulating the newly appointed Prefects. "Anthony Goldstein and Padma Patil!" Dumbledore's voice cheered as another round of clapping ensued.
Pansy kept her hand on mine as she smiled at me. "I'm sure you'll be one, Draco"
Harshly, I tore my hand away from her, giving her a disgusted look. "Get off me" Her jaw dropped and she reeled away from me.
"The Gryffindor Prefects are, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger!" Dumbledore announce, this time his clapping seemed more enthusiastic and his smiles bigger.
Looking over at the table I saw Olivia, sat still, looking down as everyone congratulated the pair. She looked so alone..
"And finally, the Slytherin Prefects are..." There was a long pause and my heart beat sped up before he spoke again. "Draco Malfoy and Pansy Parkinson!" The Slytherin table roared and cheered, everyone standing up to congratulate me.
Olivia's POV
Everyone crowded around the pair and I couldn't help but smile, Draco finally had what he wanted. The thing he had been striving and waiting for since last year, but as people returned to their seats, or headed back to the common rooms, he seemed unhappy. Somehow as if it didn't matter to him anymore. It troubled me to see him like that. "You coming, Olivia?" A small voice came from the side of me.
Nigel stood next to me, his face holding uncertainty. With a small smile, I nodded. "Yeah, just, can I have a hug?" I asked sheepishly. The thing I needed was a hug, and Nigel was just the kid to give me one.
His face lit up and he instantly wrapped his arms around me. "Thanks, kid" I smiled, resting my head on top of his. "Now let's head back to the common room" I smiled, standing up from my sitting position.
We walked together, he asked me how my summer was, I struggled to choke out a reply. "It was...Different, lets just say that" I smiled slightly.
"I believe you, and Harry, about you-know-who.." He began.
With an exasperated chuckle, I glanced at him. "Well, that's refreshing.." I mumbled.
He gave me one of those smiles, one that Cedric used to give me, one that reminded me everything would work out the way it should.
I was a big believer in fate, destiny. I believed everything would work out just as it should, it'd been tough recently, first Silus, then Cedric, then lastly, becoming a Death Eater. Fate was testing me, but there had to be a reason. Or maybe I was just kidding myself...Either way, it gave me something to believe in.
Nigel chanted the password and as we walked in, Seamus stood up and started stepping towards Harry. "My mam didn't want me to come back this year.." Seamus announced as everyone in the common room quietened down to a hush. I pushed past Nigel, steadying him with an arm as I got closer to Seamus.
"Why not?" Harry muttered, his face blank as Seamus curled his hands up into a fist, releasing, and tightening. He continued to repeat this action as the event ensued.
Seamus let out a small scoff. "Hmm, let me see" He snarled sarcastically. "Because of you" He snapped. "The Daily Prophet's been saying a lot of things about you, Harry, and about Dumbledore and Olivia as well"
As I stepped closer, Dean looked at me. Our eyes met for a second before he looked down, refusing to look at me again. "What? And your mum believes them?"
Seamus flared his arms about. "Well no one was there the night Cedric died"
I cleared my throat. "I was. And if you don't believe me then who will you believe? Fudge? Was Fudge there to call us liars?" I argued, everyone began muttering and murmuring as I stood next to Seamus, making a triangle.
Harry shook his head at me. "Leave it, Olivia." He said, voice quiet. "Oh, well I guess you should read the Daily Prophet then, like your stupid mother! It'll tell you everything you need to know!" Harry voice was harsh and took me by surprise.
"Don't you dare talk about my mother like that!" Seamus growled, his fists clenching even tighter.
"I'll have a go at anyone that calls us a liar!" Harry snapped.
Seamus clenched his jaw and fists simultaneously. Clearly trying his best to bite his tongue. Ron wandered in, seeing the commotion. "What's going on here?" He asked, storming over to Harry's side.
Seamus raised his hand, pointing at Harry. "He's mad is what's going on? Can you believe the stuff they're coming out with about You-Know-Who!?" His voice was loud and everyone in the common room was silent, no one daring to get involved.
Ron nodded slowly. "Yeah, I do" He said, standing next to Harry firmly. "Anyone else got a problem with Harry and Olivia?" Ron asked, trying his best to be intimidating.
Ron and I had grown apart last year, but he clearly still had my back, as did Harry.
No one spoke, but they began looking at each other, some giggling as Seamus stood his ground. He had a menacing look on his face. Harry turned away quickly, rushing up the steps. Ron followed not far behind.
Glancing around the room, I saw everyone starring back at me. With a sigh, I hurried off to the girls dorm. Passing Ron, he smiled. "You alright?" He asked with an awkward smile.
I nodded slowly. "Yeah, thanks for sticking up for us.."
He rubbed the back of his neck. "Yeah, well, it was nothing" He said with a carefree smile.
I nodded again, brushing past him as I escaped to the safety of my bed.
Draco's POV
"Mr Malfoy, may I have a word?" Snape's voice drawled out as I scowled and headed towards the dungeons.
Turning around, I followed him silently as he led me to his office. "Sit." He ordered. With a small nod and a squeak of the car, I sat.
He leant on the table. "It has been brought to my attention that Olivia may be unable to complete her task while it is obvious that you two are together.." He explained.
"And?" I raised my brow.
"And if she fails to complete it, the consequences will be extremely severe, Mr Malfoy. I'm sure you'd like to see Olivia in good health the next time she stays at the Malfoy Manor" He snapped.
I sat back, slumping slightly. "....What do I need to do?.." I muttered, realising the severity.
"Fake a break up" He said. "Make everyone think that you two are finished until she completes her task, then, you my proceed as you both see fit"
I nodded affirmatively. "I'll tell her when I can.." I mumbled, looking down as I stood up, assuming Snape was finished with me.
"And, Mr Malfoy." Snape spoke again as I placed my hand on the handle of the door, looking at him over my shoulder. "Don't break her heart" He said, refusing to look me in the eyes.
Looking at the ground, I nodded as I slammed the door shut behind me..
