Chapter 4 (Ren)
Sighing into the brisk midnight winds of Downtown Manhattan, one really begins to wonder just who they really are. What was their purpose in life, and why?
Why were they given this path? By no means was Ren religious, just curious. Closing her eyes she let the soft winter breeze flow through her silky raven-black hair. Letting it dance in the wind like leaves dancing from a tree. She could remember it all: the self-proclaimed mother who beat her and molded her into the person she was today. The agony and cascades of bruises carved into her body. The countless tattooed scars severed her skin. But it was all over now. She'd made her decision.
Several nights ago, when the man had left her "that '' card, Ren was skeptical but she still called. She wanted to get away from the life her "mother" no that "she" had enforced upon Ren. She wanted an escape and in the form of a card she did. Sure the work was pretty similar, staking out places, but where "she" had forced Ren to kill, this new organization would let her choose or so they claim.
Ren hoped the man was right, she didn't want to kill anymore. Sure some of the men "she" had given Ren to kill were evil, but some were also innocent. And with the chip in her neck, Ren didn't have a choice, it was her life or theirs. "She" didn't give her a choice. Do or die. Ren didn't want to live that life anymore.
Ren hated hurting the innocent, but by no means did she hesitate to kill, it was written into her genes after all. But if Ren could avoid killing she would try. So she called the number written on the card. And they came, Ren didn't know how they deactivated her chip, which forced her to stay with her "mother". But once it was turned off Ren was free, and so she ran. And there they were ready to aid her in her escape. Now she was here on top of a 70-story building. Breaking in through the roof.
This was the trial test, the exam that would determine her fate. If she failed she would have to go back, she couldn't go back, she didn't want to see "them" again. Her family, the family that haunted her ever-waking and sleeping dreams. Their blood, their bones snapping like twigs, the guns, the green fresh grass covered in red.
She was going to live a new life now, a new journey, a new path would await her future, Ren was not going back. Stomping in the grey steel door until the hinges broke off Ren turned back cocking a brow at the two men escorting and monitoring her test. Maximus and Kyle. One had dark hair like her but his skin was far more tanned than her pale peach-yellow skin tone. The other man, Kyle, wore a cocky grin as he checked her out up and down. Ren cooled her expression offering nothing away as she studied him back. Not giving into his taunts.
"You're gonna have to do better than that if you want in sweetheart," Maximus said, the arrogant male testosterone practically oozing out of him as Ren rolled her eyes surveying the dark pristine stainless steel of the building. Looking down the spiral white stone slab of stairs she unhook her grabble. Not hesitating she let her body fall off the railing of the top floor they had just barged into. And at the last minute, she quietly used the grapple to prevent her death by falling off the roof.
If Ren's calculations were right she should have stopped at the 55th floor. Checking for any security camera, she looked for the small red light that it would emit if it was on. Which she had made sure to turn off before they even landed on the glass building. "She" had made sure Ren knew all there was to know. Hacking skills, the best points to kill a man, every type of martial arts, anything needed on a mission Ren knew it.
The quiet thumps landing behind her told Ren her escorts or more like prompters were behind her. Unfortunately, she couldn't just kick this stainless steel door down too, as she spotted the key code. Swiftly punching in the right number, Ren opened the creaking door, much to her anger as she hooked her grappler to her right thigh. God could they not oil the doors here? Again Ren wished this door wasn't so heavily guarded that if she had booted it off it would have alerted the CEO.
Finally, she was in, getting to the information should be easy as pie for Ren as she crept into the filing room. The masses of lockers from floor to ceiling were nothing to Ren, as she was accustomed to searching for a pin in the haystack. "She" had forced her to go through these daily routines countless times until Ren could do it in 5 seconds flat. And so Ren did, she found the data labeling the CEO of Dev Tech a Tax Evader. Turning back around from the blue locker cabinets she handed the file to the prick Maximus who was sneering at her still, as if doubting her skills. While Kyle was still checking her out much to Ren's annoyance. When
"There no way a little girl like you could possibly-" His words were quickly shut off as Maximus flipped through the file. And it was all there in the thirty pages. Ren was now officially in, as she always knew. All that's left is to leave without getting noticed. Easy as lemon pie.
Kyle was leaning in taking a look at the files for himself as he whistled quietly to himself. "Damn, well be another man's whore. I mean I am, but you got some skills ChinChang."
Without a single hesitation, Ren's dagger was placed right below his external jugular vein," Once slice and you'd be dead. Don't ever fucking mock me again. And that goes for you too, old man." Ren sneered at Maximus, who she had guessed might be in his late 30's, maybe 35?
Kyle raised his hand in the air in the universal sign of submission. But he didn't look at all sorry as he just smirked down at her, at her chest. She was a B cup so nothing there to see as Kyle's smiling lips quirked slightly down at the sight, before trailing down to her ass, before smirking again. Maximus just stared at her but he nodded. Ren was going to beat the living shit out of the guy if she got the chance, and by guy, she met the playboy. The fox, she dealt with those men all her life, she didn't care much for that. But she'll put Maximus in his place too.
"You've got skills girly, but everyone here does. Let's go." The old man said.
As for Kyle Ren knew he was perhaps a year or two older or younger than her. Withdrawing her dagger Ren unhooked her grappler from her right thigh. Storming off to the door she waited for the other two men to meet her by the entrance before sealing up the backdoor once more.
Like no one had even entered. Ren and her "entourage" zipped back up the spiral slab stairs before zipping down the 70-story building.
