Simple Introduction:

Deathwing, put politely, is, or was, the chaotic and dominate alter-ego of the Dragon Aspect, Neltharion of the Warcraft universe.

However the more truthful explanation is that Deathwing is the result of one of the most powerful dragons on Azeroth becoming corrupted from the influence of an ancient and evil gods and going completely around the bend with hopes of raining fire down upon the entire planet purely from spite. He is a being of truly burning hate, who is literally falling apart at the seams from a mixture of magical overdose and his refusal to do the world a favor and kick the bucket.

"Neltharion was originally the mighty black wyrm chosen by the titan Khaz'goroth to be one of the five Dragon Aspects, with domain over the earth and the deep places of the world. He was chosen as the caretaker of the continents of Azeroth, and he used his power to forge mountains and rivers for the benefit of mortal races. In peaceful times, Neltharion was renowned for his wisdom and power, and he became known as Neltharion the Earth-Warder, a great protector of the land. Malygos the Spell-Weaver, the Aspect of magic, was his closest friend.

Then came the madness that destroyed Neltharion's mind, changing him and his kind forever and leading to the creation of the powerful item known as the Dragon Soul, later the Demon Soul. The inner-voices of the Old Gods convinced him that he could have power beyond his imagination if he served them. The voices made him paranoid of even his own black dragonflight. Neltharion began to yearn for a world dominated by his black dragonflight — a world in which the other dragonflights ceased to exist."

Personality:

Deathwing has maxed out his stats in sadism and insanity and would destroy himself to kill every other living creature, and tries, but fails. He has lost all pity or remorse, even for his allies and family. He proves this countless times, but undeniably when he mutilates his mate to produce more offspring for his war, and later shrugs off her death, and that of his favorite children, as of no consequence.

He is entirely proud and believes his defeat is an impossibility. He loves to see others suffer, both emotionally and physically and is fond of torture and manipulation, twisting creatures to his will. Even his children qualify not as individuals, but products of his genius.

Physical and Mental Capabilities:

He is the Earth-Warder. His master of Azeroth's shell. He can open chasms, reshape mountains, and in a final desperate attempt, seems to try to crack the world the world down the center like an egg.

As a black dragon, he can breath fire that melts stone and metal.

Appearance and Physical Features:

He remains a black dragon, but after being attacked by the other Aspects, he became deformed by their barrage of magic and had to endure modifications to keep from falling apart in the aftermath. His lower jaw was replaced by one of metal and his body is held together by large staples. He has become a living furnace and this fire escapes from an ever growing amount of cracks in his obsidian hide.

(While Wrathion loves to namedrop Deathwing as his father, the lore seems uncertain, especially when this suggested breeding between Deathwing and his daughter. Lore guides now list his father as "unknown".)
