Chapter Eight

"Jesus Chr- Miles! Are you okay?"

I stiffened and took a moment to breathe. I blinked a few times and noticed I was in my room at the sins' house, in my pajamas, sweat rolling down my body and Lucio hovered over me.

"I'm.. I thought I was on a walk..."

Lucio looked at me with a strange look, brows furrowed together, "you came back from your walk hours ago. We all heard you, didn't see you."

"I... Ugh, I think I had a bad dream."

"No kidding," Lucio muttered, "you were screaming.

"I'm sorry. What time is it?"

"Five in the morning, why?"

I rolled over in my bed, grabbing my phone from the nightstand, sending a quick text to some classmates asking if they could take notes for me since I was feeling sick. I then rolled back, "I'm not feeling to hot, so I'm taking a sick day."

Lucio pressed his wrist to my forehead, his wrist way to cool against it. "Yeah, for the best, you're burning up."

He left my room and I just laid there a few minutes, wondering how hot I was even though I didn't feel all that sick.

He came back after a few minutes with a glass of water and a cold rag. well, I assumed it was cold, and damp from the way it dripped onto the floors.

It was.

He carefully placed the tag on my head and set the glass of water next to me on my nightstand.

"You get some rest Alright?"

"Alright."

After that, he left me alone, and I laid in bed, floating in and out of sleep for hours.

When I came to, that guy, Ryan? His face wa sin my head.

Had I dreamed him up?

I checked over my body and my body seemed fine. No scratches or bruises or tearing...

It was probably just a nightmare.

How did i get home though?

I pushed the thought aside and grabbed the water from the nightstand, chugging it.

I felt almost immediately better. It was as if all the heat and heaviness that was in my body had was lifted. I sat up, feeling lighter than I had ever felt before.

Pushing out of my bed and I had gotten to my feet, walking towards the bathroom to take a quick shower.

Something told me to look at the mirror when I entered, so I let my body guide me. I was still the same, but... no...

My body looked a bit stronger, even if it wasn't that much, and I was taller? Even if by a few inches.

Maybe I was just imagining it.

One how shower later, I went downstairs, seeing that the sins were all eating lunch, telling me how much time had passed.

"You okay now?" Lucio asked.

I nodded, rolling my shoulder blades, "Yeah. I can't remember much of last night though. I just remember leaving and getting lost and that's it."

"You did disappear on or radar for an hour. Freaked us out," Derek informed.

My brain felt fuzzy for half a second, "I did?"

The sins all exchanged looks, worried, "are you sure you're okay?"

I sighed, "I'm fine. I got back here safe and sound, so I'm fine."

"Anything happen?"

"No," I assured, "I had a nightmare which made me think something happened, but no."

They still seemed wary, but didn't say anything as I went to the kitchen to grab a snack. I wasn't particularly hungry.

I grabbed some baby carrots and headed back to the living room, grabbing the remote and flicking on the tv.

The first thing that popped up was the news.

"Ugh, change the channel, the news is boring," greed groaned.

"Shut it Gene," Lucio barked tiredly.

Paying it no mind, I focused on the tv my eyes scanning what it was about.

Local College Kid Found Dismembered in Alleyway

"Jeez, how can anyone kill people?" I muttered under my breath.

Gene piped up, "some people have sick tendencies or, fight or flight."

I was going to ask what he meant when I glanced at the image on screen. The Body was horribly disfigured, the walls littered with writing apparently done in the victim's blood.

Rapist

Did my pretty little mouth make you cry?

Take no for an answer

Cry for me

I shivered at the sprawl of words.

I said, "I guess it was fight or flight

"Appears so." Derek hummed out.

I continued watching, hearing everyone discuss how this poor kid went out one night and now, there he was.

Apparently he went to my college and was the son of the governor. No one deserved being killed in a horrendous way, but considering the bloody scrawl, the guy had it coming.

They were at a coffee shop and it seemed oddly familiar.

"The Guy was a grade a creep. This super hot guy came in and ordered a coffee and slid into a booth to charge his phone. I listened into part of the convo, and his phone had died. Anyways, the kid you're talking about just slid into his booth and started chatting him up. The cutie didn't like it and kept throwing excuses and then booked it. The weirdo followed him out. I wouldn't blame him if it ended up being that cutie."

More shivers crept to my spine.

Last night's dream.

No, no.... just a coincidence.

"Could you describe the man the victim was hitting on?"

"I can do you one better and give you his name. First name that is."

"Go on?"

The barista smiled dreamily, "he had golden eyes, like beautiful, and blonde hair with a soft jaw and kissable lips and nice warm skin with cute little freckles splayed across his face and his name was Miles. I would fuck him."

"Last night was a dream," I said out loud, all color drained from my body.

"Miles? What are you talking about?" Lucio asked.

"Yeah? Why were you out there?"

"I got lost and-" I sucked in a deep breath turning to them, "I think I killed this guy."
