After the Robotnik Regime fell, not many asked a large question.

If the human side was either dominant or at stalemate during the war...

...how were they suddenly too weak to hold back Robotnik's army?

Many scholars and historians have bounced back and forth between data, trying to figure out how this happened.

The data never came from books or records though, but through the "secret elite" of Mobius.

Their claim to the disaster: a secret Mobian army defying the King's orders.

James Woofwell was the first to discover this, due to eavesdropping on two operatives.

I learned during the middle of the war that people still held that high tension and paranoia that we had prior to all this.

Kodos had done a good job at riling up the population against humans ever since the "incident" with the two squads.

Without Nate Morgan around, we had no proof to our own people that not all humans were plotting our deaths.

What I found out through my years undercover in war was that this stuff was planned out before the "incident" even happened.

Not just by Kodos, but someone else...

.....someone else incredibly powerful, but never held a public position of power.

Ulysses Trailing

He was born in a poor farm community sometime after I was dubbed a knight by my college, Fredrick.

After a fight with his father once, he left to go do his own work at hotels and restaurants, saving up money to get education at an academy.

Once there, he exposed himself to not just the basics and various trades, but to politics and history.

He developed his own opinions after learning about "King George's War" and looking into the origins of Mobian society.

Like Kodos, he built his own distaste for how humans were always at the top in progress and strength.

He started asking questions no one else was asking.

Why share this world with the humans if they don't see things the way we do?

Why side with those who won't even acknowledge us as people?

Didn't Alexander believe they wouldn't fit in with our kind anyways?

So why keep them alive if they fail to fit with our standards?

Ulysses got his degree and started a merchant business that spread throughout the business.

Unfortunately, his wealth combined with his ideals made him very..........power hungry.

His secret journals wrote of how he used his influence to eliminate anything blocking his success.

He didn't just target illegal humans.

Business rivals trading outside the kingdom borders became an even bigger target.

He even admits he took a secret pride and joy in what he called "Defective Apes".

When the squad incident happened, Trailing took to the streets of his new hometown with a few others to riot.

The group wanted humans to pay full responsibility for the damages done by them.

But part way through the war, he realized that this could be the opportunity for Mobians to rise up and become the world's dominant race.

Suddenly, Trailing was Pro-War and supported those who wanted to attack.

His friends didn't like his new war stance, so he was kicked out and shunned.

At that point, he made plans of his own to use his wealth to gain a small amount of influence, while also being at a weak position in the military.

There was only one meeting between him and Kodos, though they seemed to hit it well together.

When the Great War began, Trailing was made an officer, but Kodos secretly gave him access to any secret locations he could use.

He invested in spies, assassins and mercenaries to be  his secret inner core of those who were loyal to him.

He made secret propaganda against King Max in the territories far away from the influence of royalty.

From that propaganda, he gained 500 followers to side with him, but he needed more to make a big enough army.

Trailing then decided to kidnap a scientist from human territory, one with knowledge of genetics and technology.

From forced labor, he made him build a clone lab, complete with test chambers and everything.

It's unknown if he used that clone lab or not, but it would explain the sudden rise in casualties.

What is known is that he had all of the resources he needed after Kodos disappeared.

There was even files that contained proof that he violated the gun ban laws, equipping his soldiers with both semiautomatic and automatic weapons.

Before he launched it though, he planned to see if he could overthrow King Max to leave a power vacuum of power.

If his plan worked, his son could take power or someone else would be granted emergency powers.

Trailing could have a puppet to do his bidding without them even knowing it.

If he couldn't control them though, he'd get rid of all possible heirs to power....

....including a very young Princess Sally Acorn.

Then Trailing could take power himself and launch a Holocaust against the human race.

It didn't matter how many leaders he got rid of.

To him, humanity had their fun at being the masters.

To him, now was the time for humans to be slaves.

Or better yet, be brought to near or total extinction.

Trailing had no idea that his actions caused a hero to be born out of it.

One that could either be his undoing or a new tool to use.

Mobius's secret societies call this undercover army a rather specific name.

The Punishers of UnderMined Authorities (P.U.M.A)

Their goal? Eradicating all human life for the betterment of Mobians.

Trailing launches Operation Ragnarok two months after Julien Kintobor became warlord.

His forces sneak past human borders and captured numerous locations to establish a foothold in human territory.

The operation would be finished once Megatropolis, Empire City and Station Square were burned to the ground.

With most military attention on Mobotropolis, only small militia groups get a weak warning of heavily armed troops headed for them.

Normal POV

Mercury Base

Local soldiers are stationed at their posts, only having their lookouts keep an eye on the road their nearby outpost guards.

Suddenly, one of the lookouts alerts the base command. "I spot several bogeys just two clicks from the outpost! Some are flanking the front, while the majority are taking the rear!"

The base commander looks at his monitor team. "Alert Units V-54 and V-48 to defend the outpost's front. Tell Units V-86, V-23 and V-31 to retake the rear."

The base dispatches the mentioned squads to the outpost.

2 hours later...

One of the men reports to the commander. "Report! All squads have been confirmed down, sir!"

The base shook as the commander went to take a look outside.

An entire battalion of Mobians were overwhelming the human militia outside.

The commander calls out to the staff there. "Call in for a full retreat!"

One of the men in his service looks at him. "But sir, if we lose this base, the enemy will have access to three towns down the road!"

The commander tells him sternly. "Then we better evacuate those areas as well. I will not risk losing all squads to this surprise attack."

The men leave in a panic as the walls are breached and large numbers of Mobians come in and tear anything down in their path.

Small artillery is blown up as jeeps and vans hurry out of the base, many vehicles not making out of the place in time before they were crushed or blasted.

Down the road and 10 minutes later.....

The base commander asks. "How many did lose back there?"

One of his aides tells him. "We only have 15 squads left. The attack on the outpost and the base cut our numbers down."

The former militia commander looks at the damage from their position miles away.

Smoke rises from the area, a clear sign that the defenses were completely done.

He looks on in desperation. "Dear Chaos, what are we going to do?"
