061. Training
✧
Sitting on top of a small boulder, Mia delights herself by watching Jasper send Emmett flying across the field. It's been a continuous feud between them, seeing as Emmett's ego is far too big for his sake to admit defeat.
Emmett stands from the ground in an instant and glares at Jasper frustratedly, "Again!"
"You're just bound to lose," Mia carelessly mumbles.
He scoffs in offense, "Not a chance. I'll be able to take him down easily."
"Like you have the previous four times?"
Emmett extends his arms as if priding himself, "I'm improving by the minute, super witch. I'll soon be able to sneak up on you."
"Hmm, I doubt it," Mia narrows her eyes at him, but just when he realizes what's about to happen, she waves her hand in his direction and sends him flying into the trees. "Try harder."
"This is why you don't underestimate her," Edward applauds her as Emmett tries walking off the impact and brushes off the dirt from his clothes.
"I'll be getting you back the next time," Emmett glares at her with a menacing look that doesn't match his teasing tone.
She takes advantage of his distraction by making him trip with a weak shove of her hand, "That was the next time. Better keep your eyes open."
"Not fair. I wasn't ready," Emmett complains.
Mia's enjoyment is cut short when taking notice of Edward staring at her with those golden eyes of his. She knows what he's trying to do and she's not letting him get through to her. It will take a lot not to fall for his complicit charms, but she believes that focusing her attention on anything will allow it, which so coincidentally happens once Jackson arrives.
"It's about time you got here," she jumps off the boulder with haste and tosses her arms around him.
"You called, I came," Jackson admits, squeezing her gently before parting away.
"Did they handle the whole apparating them great?"
He laughs, "Paul and Jacob certainly complained, but other than that, it all went smoothly."
"Thanks for bringing them," Mia says. "It didn't seem right for them to pay for the travel when magic can just bring them much quicker."
"Also, after their session is over, you should train as well," Jackson suggests.
"And with who? It's not like I can throw spells around to vampires," Mia then realizes what he means. "Oh, I see. You want to practice as well."
"I'm not standing around doing nothing, M," Jackson ruffles her hair, earning a punch on the shoulder. "Ouch! That hurt."
"Don't touch my hair," Mia threatens.
"Use that annoyance when we train then," he tells her through a small smile. "Let all the anger out."
She glances at Edward, who is obviously refraining from joining them. Like it would be of any use, seeing as his vampire hearing and mind reading ability grants him greater advantages.
"Don't worry," she says. "I'll let everything out."
Rustling emerges from deep in the forest. All of them turn in its direction and are welcomed by the sight of the pack arriving in their wolf form. They maintain their distance and form low growls, their stares growing heavy and full of momentary disdain for the vampires.
"They don't trust enough to be in their human forms," Edward informs them after reading Sam's mind.
"They came. That's what matters. Will you translate?" Carlisle states, not an ounce of offense for their lack of trust present. He approaches the center of the field, respecting their decision by giving them their space as well, "Welcome. Jasper has experience with newborns. He'll teach us how to defeat them."
Sam makes a low growling noise.
"They want to know how the newborns differ from us," Edward translates.
Mia becomes much more attentive now that the possibility of becoming a vampire has become greater. While it's not in her realm of desires, she's not throwing the immortality card out the window. Anything can happen in the next few months, so she wants to be prepared for what type of creature she might become.
"They're a great deal stronger than us, because their own human blood lingers in their tissues," Carlisle informs. "Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first seven months of this life."
Something to look forward to, then.
If Aro was right that she would make for a powerful immortal, it changes everything. Her gifts could vary from anything and she admits, it's the only factor making her willing to accept vampirism. The thing is, it would mean having to endure an eternity drinking blood and remaining frozen in time.
"Carlisle's right. That's why they are created," Jasper steps forward, his firm and loud voice echoing throughout the forest. "A newborn army doesn't need thousands like a human army, but no human army could stand against them."
Unless they're witches.
"Now, the two most important things to remember are, first, never let them get their arms around you. They'll crush you instantly," Jasper continues as he paces through the space separating them from the pack. "And second, never go for the obvious kill. They'll be expecting that, and you will lose."
Wow, that's really inspirational.
Mia exchanges a look with Jackson, who also thought the same thing. It seems this whole colonel mask of Jasper is more brooding than encouraging, but hey, at least he's being a realist.
"Emmett," Jasper calls for his brother, who eagerly jumps at the chance to prove himself to Mia that he can get Jasper back after failing four times.
"Fifth time's a charm. We'll see if you still got it," Mia teases him and offers a sardonic smile.
Emmett glares at her, but her mock is enough to fuel his determination to beat his brother. It seems that he's motivated through teasing, which oddly enough, it's a new revelation proven to the others.
"Don't hold back," Jasper tells him.
"Not in my nature," Emmett braces himself before running toward his brother, his determined smile never once disappearing.
Jasper extends his arms as if welcoming his attack. He plants his feet deep into the soil, preventing Emmett from tackling him to the ground. Emmett acquires control by grabbing him by the waist and tossing him into the air, but Jasper is able to land with incredible grace. This is enough to infuriate Emmett, who swings his arm against him in an attempt to acquire a successful attack, but as expected, Jasper's combat skills prevent his win.
"Never lose focus," Jasper prides himself as he looks down at a collapsed Emmett.
Mia bites the inside of her cheek to refrain from laughing, "It seems the fifth time wasn't a charm after all."
Still on the ground, Emmett groans at the harsh impact. He offers a grunt in response, which is enough for her to become satisfied.
"You seem to be enjoying this," Jackson comments through a laugh and arms folded.
She eagerly nods, "Seeing a vampire's ass getting handled is always an enjoyment for me."
Edward is then called up by Jasper to fight against Carlisle. It's his turn to train and even if she's seen him fight before, she wonders how he'll do with someone who's experienced. She straightens her posture and walks closer to the scene, making sure to get front row seats to the show.
"Looks like your bloodsucker is next," Jackson says and seriously wishes for Carlisle to win the combat.
Mia stares attentively at Edward, who senses her stare and looks her way. As if she's been caught doing something she shouldn't, she quickly averts her gaze to anything to him.
Carlisle nods at his son for them to begin. Within the blink of an eye, Edward runs toward him in an attempt to attack, but Carlisle dodges the hit with ease. Both of them face the other and reach for their throats, their hold appearing to be harsh and full of determination. Carlisle swings various hits, but Edward avoids them as if they were nothing. He jams his palm into Carlisle's chest and sends him crashing to the ground. This, of course, raises his ego and makes him believe he's acquired the upper hand.
Hoping to have impressed her, Edward glances in Mia's direction seeking her approval. She's stubborn, but she can't deny being proud of him and gives him a gentle applause. Her action is more than enough to make him lose focus, proving to be a grave mistake.
"One more thing," Jasper walks past him so coincidentally when Carlisle tackles Edward in a surprise attack. "Never turn your back on your enemy."
Mia looks away to allow herself to smile. She senses him approaching her and as much as she wants to walk away, she finds herself glued to her spot. "I thought you would have put up a fight. How disappointing."
"I did it for you," Edward says as if it were the most obvious thing. "I know you would have loved seeing me in that position, so I let him win."
"That's what a loser would say."
He hums in thought for a moment, "Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Mia only shakes her head at him and starts walking away, but not before providing a shove against his shoulder. Really, it was just a way to feel his graze against hers.
"Leaving so soon, little witch?" Edward calls her by the nickname he gave her and it warms her heart hearing it again. "The day's not over yet."
Mia's fully aware this is his way of getting her to stay a little longer. He's a damned conniving vampire and she's not giving in to the temptation (no matter how enticing it can be).
She glances up at the sky and notices a few dark clouds gathering, "It's about to rain, so I'm putting this day to good use before it ends."
Edward softly smiles as she turns away. Relishing in her presence is the most valuable gift he's been given and evading the honor would be a betrayal. She's worth every wait, every struggle, every laughter, and every sadness. She's worth everything.
As he gazes at her, he's suddenly met by the obnoxious thoughts of Jackson, who's become more than delighted by her approaching him. He's tempted to go after her, but when he sees how comfortable she's with him, he decides on staying back. While he's aware what happened between them is in the past, it's a memory that still remains fresh in Jackson, who makes it abundantly clear through his explicit thoughts.
Edward tries to avoid reading his mind, but it's his way of making sure Mia's safe with him. He can't deny how a part of him wishes that Jackson was hiding a dark secret. Anything that would justify his dislike and offer a reason for her to stay away from him, but from his observations, he knows Mia's friendship with him has kept her afloat. It's brought her joy and what more could he ask for?
He loves her too much to wish for something so unfortunate, so instead, he's forcing himself to tolerate the wizard and pray not to lose his mind with all this jealousy.
"Let's train," Mia shakes her hands as a way to prepare herself and pops her knuckles. "It would really help to be prepared just in case."
Jackson looks away from Jasper and Alice training, proceeding to follow her in the opposite direction of the forest. "I'll pretend it's not a way to avoid the pale face."
"Not everything is about him," Mia tries arguing, but it's the most wasteful thing since Jackson's not the easiest to convince. "Now, where do we start?"
Jackson reaches into his coat's pocket and tosses her wand at her, "Think fast."
She hasn't held her wand in the longest time, mainly since practicing wandless magic has granted her an advantage. The last time she saw it, Dimitri had it, so she wonders how Jackson managed to get it back.
"Isobel thought you might need it," he answers her question as he grabs his own wand.
"I learned wandless magic, so I don't think there's much use in it," Mia caresses the wooden texture, the feeling of it almost foreign to the touch, but providing a sense of fulfillment.
"Wandless magic is a hard skill to master and it gives you an advantage, but using your wand connects you further into your power," Jackson explains. "Besides, you need to practice with it. It's been a while since you've used your wand and you can't lie that it's better being a master of two skills."
She holds her wand with precision and reconsiders the possibility that he's right. Being skillful over two methods will come to good use. Not many are able to succeed at wandless magic, but she's learned over the course of a few months. It seems everything that happened in Forks brought her something useful at least.
"I hate saying it, but you're right," she reluctantly admits. "It does seem like-"
"Stupefy," Jackson casts a flash of red that she barely misses dodging.
Mia gasps at the sudden attack and looks at the cracked boulder beside her with widened eyes, "I wasn't ready."
"Always be on the lookout," Jackson advises as he sinks his feet deeper into the ground and adjusts his posture. "Remain focused no matter the distractions around you."
Glaring at him so intensely, Mia tightens her grip on her wand and wields it in his direction, "Fine, but I won't go easy on you."
He smiles, "Wouldn't dream of it."
The forest turns silent in anticipation. Not a single leaf was crackling or any sounds coming from the end. Everything is perfectly still, simply coursing through the wind and waiting for either to make the first move. This wasn't just a training session anymore, but it was a chance to prove to themselves how prepared they are for the imminent fight.
Mia delights herself by witnessing the hubris clouding his judgment. He's staring at her as if believing he can underestimate her magic. It's not anything strange since this is a common occurrence. Whether it comes from her family or friends, it's safe to assume that being misjudged is an active blitz to her gifts.
Her eyes narrow in contemplation as an attempt to corrupt his thoughts and make his beliefs trust that she would attack with her wand. Like he said, always be prepared for any sudden attacks. A lesson he will have to learn for himself.
Mia gestures her hand into an upward stroke. The loudest ringing reverberates throughout the forest, but it's completely silent to anyone besides Jackson. The ringing pounds against his head without means of ending, causing his face to scrunch in both pain and determination. She raises her brows at him in a taunting way and only when he appears to be fully vexed, she puts an end to the spell.
A jet of light emerges from Jackson's wand. Its strong force reaches her in an instant and casts an intense pressure into her chest. In a loud gasp, she crashes to the ground in a harsh collision. The impact takes her breath away and inflicts pain onto her back. She winces at the spell's strength and forces herself to stand with haste.
Due to Edward keeping watch on her, his overprotectiveness makes him forget this is all in means of training. The only thing he's aware of is that she's been hurt and that angers him more than anything. All he sees is red when he glances at Jackson, who notices the fury in the vampire's eyes and prepares himself for any attacks.
Knowing she doesn't have the physical strength to stop a vampire, Mia casts a defensive spell against him. Edward is sent crashing into the trees and it's taking everything not to check on him, but Jackson has other plans for her. She shoots her hand forward at the precise time when a flash of light approaches her. Through a brisk motion, a protective barrier is cast around her, preventing the spells from consuming her.
Their flashes of red and green are soon colliding against the other. Sparks are emitted like fireworks and due to the extreme force, their power emitting from them leads their arms to tremble.
"You seem to be getting tired, Grey," Jackson attempts to distract her, but she's too focused to grant him the satisfaction.
Mia notices him stepping over a few tree roots and the light bulb in her head turns on. With a haste gesture of her hand, she twists her fingers as if she were grasping onto the roots. She tightens her hand into a tight fist and with her magic, she wraps it around his wrists to disarm him.
Jackson grits his teeth and attempts to free himself from the roots. He uses his entire strength to acquire his wand and with his ability to use nonverbal magic, he acquires the upper hand by using a duplication spell.
Mia's now surrounded by dozens of him. She pays close attention to his microexpressions, to anything that would reveal which version is the real him. All of them stare at her as if anticipating her failure and it's now when she wishes to be able to read minds. It would give her insight to her enemies' strategies and be able to perceive their next move. Sure, she can cast Legilimency against Jackson, but she first needs to determine which is the original copy.
"Focus, Grey," Jackson's clones say at the same time. "Don't get distracted."
Mia has been able to anticipate attacks before. When she fought James, she was able to sense the danger and it allowed her to defend herself. If only she could acquire this ability again and figure out who the real Jackson is, but it's getting harder to concentrate when feeling everyone's eyes on her.
She continuously glances around, narrowing her eyes in thought and focusing on searching for her long lost ability. The more she observes each version of him, the more confusing it becomes. His clones are able to mimic the original version to a tea. They act just like him and with them circling around her, it's making her feel as if she were trapped in a zoo.
"Come on, Grey," Jackson says, continuing to pace all around.
Everything starts caving in. The trees, the ground, even the breeze feels suffocating. Unlike other times, she's not afraid of this feeling. With the vibrations rattling her body, she's perceiving her lost ability returning to her. He's about to launch an attack and she's being warned. All the signs are proving for a preparation needing to happen until finally, she's able to figure out who the original version is.
One of his clones moves a second before the rest. His footsteps lack coordination and even when he moves his head slightly, the rest of his versions miss their accuracy by a quarter of a second. It's an action that can go unnoticed if not paying close attention, but remaining focused is a key factor for battle.
She can feel her body tensing as she glances toward her left side. Her hand stretches and it feels as if she's being injected by millions of needles. She notices the way his fingers curl around his wand and the determined look in his eye. He's planning an attack and she considers him to be a fool for believing she won't anticipate it.
She extends her wand forward and uses her entire strength against the original version. Harshly, he ends up being sent a couple feet away from her. He lands in a grating collision to the ground, but it seems she used too much strength. When she sees a bone peeking from his arm, all sense of training disappears and panic is felt.
Mia dashes toward him at the same time Edward does. Sure enough, Jackson's arm is cracked and it's obvious he's trying to pretend the pain isn't the worst he's endured.
"I'm so sorry," she continuously apologizes and expects him to be angry or afraid of her. Whenever her magic got too out of control, everyone only saw the worst version of her starting to emerge. The belief that the darkness was consuming her led to fear and rejection, which is the reaction she's expecting to receive now. "I knew I shouldn't have taken this too seriously, but I just had to prove myself right. It seems I really didn't go easy on you after all, which means that this training session just showed how uncontrollable and-"
"Mia, please shut up," Jackson laughs through the pain and squeezes her hand two times to assure her that everything is fine. "It's not a successful training unless someone ends up injured."
"The bone needs to be put into place," Edward states as he inspects the gravity of the injury. "I can-"
"Take your hand off me," Jackson aggressively shoves his hand away, not bothering to care for the pain his action brought upon his arm. "I have it handled, so stay the hell away from me."
Edward's gaze hardens in an instant, "Not even in times like these can you be mature. Why am I not surprised?"
"Go complain to someone who cares," Jackson's tone drips with venom as he stands from the ground. "You know, everything was going smoothly until you showed up."
Mia stares ahead with a deadpan look as she tries processing that this is actually happening. She's actually witnessing the two of them argue for no apparent reason other than this rivalry that came out of nowhere.
"What happened between Mia and I is none of your business," Edward bitterly says.
Jackson laughs in disbelief, "You didn't see the state you left her in or the effects you caused. You think you know everything, but you're not even close."
Edward clenches his fists and attempts to remain calm, but his overbearing thoughts keep pounding against his head in means of torturing him. "And you do? Someone who she just met?"
"You really don't want to go there," Jackson warns him. "You knew her for much longer and yet that didn't stop you from abandoning her as if she meant nothing."
Mia's appalled at how they're talking about her as if she weren't there. They're taking liberties arguing back and forth instead of pushing their aversion aside for the sake of working together. If she's able to withstand Edward and the Cullens' presence for the meanwhile, the least they can do is attempt to tolerate each other. Once this fiasco is over, then they can resume their ridiculous rivalry.
"You need to stop getting involved in things that don't concern you," Edward speaks in a lower voice, but the obvious detest still lingers like a twisted virus. "Or is there a particular reason why you're so open to help?"
"You tell me. Aren't you so great at invading people's thoughts?"
By now, Mia's on the verge of losing her last thread of patience. This is getting more pathetic by the minute and the fact that they're not understanding how unnecessary this is just makes her feel like the only person with common sense.
Edward clenches his jaw and refrains himself from losing control as it's the thing he wants. "You're not needed here, so leave."
Jackson narrows his eyes into slits, "I'll leave when she asks me to."
"Actually, I'd really like for you both to leave," Mia interjects, now stepping in between them to prevent a physical fight. "I thought this little bickering would have been entertaining at first, but it's getting extremely annoying. We have the same enemy and want the same thing, which is to win against Victoria and her damn army, so stop arguing like a married couple and get on board before I hex you both!"
Edward and Jackson turn quiet as they perceive her words. Neither want to push their dislike aside, but they realize that Mia is right. They're on the same side, so turning against each other will only make things more complicated. Not to forget how they need to unite forces in order to ensure this battle is won.
"Get over yourselves, 'cause if I can push my anger aside, then I'm sure you both are able to as well," Mia shoves past them in the opposite direction. She refuses to spend any more time with them, especially when they're just bound to ignore her suggestion and do as they please.
"Everything okay?" Rosalie asks as she glances back and forth between Mia and Edward.
"Yeah, I'm great," she says, but the sarcasm causes Rosalie to trail after her. "No need to follow me, blondie. I'm just done with vampire business for the day."
"I don't blame you," Rosalie agrees, now walking alongside her. "I would also like to be done with all vampire things, but I'm afraid I'm eternally stuck."
Mia glances at her from the corner of her eye. She knows she's been rude by not wanting to partake in a conversation, but she's had her share of vampires for the day. All she wants is to head to her friends and worry about anything else that doesn't involve this newborn army.
"I know things will never go back to how they used to be, but we're really sorry for how we left," Rosalie says, her apology taking her by surprise (especially since it's coming from her). "And I'm sorry for mentioning Alice's vision to Edward."
"Yeah, it nearly cost us everything," Mia runs a hand through her hair as she leans against a tree, hoping Rosalie gets the hint that she doesn't want to speak right now. "But if it weren't for that whole incident, I wouldn't have gotten my magic back. It was wrong what you did, but it's over now, so let's not talk about it anymore."
Rosalie nods in appreciation and follows her line of sight, soon realizing it's Edward she's staring at. "I know it's not in my place, but you should know how much Edward regrets having left you. He loves you, Mia. A lot. Everything he's doing, he's doing it out of love."
She bites the inside of her cheek and glances down at her hands, "Rosalie, I like you, so don't ruin it by getting involved. I know he's your brother, but this is something between us."
"I know, but I still care," Rosalie admits and takes the spot next to her. "It's obvious there's still something between you two and I worry that a mistake could cost everything."
"Did he tell you how he ended things?"
Rosalie gives a faint head shake.
"He knows becoming like my father is my greatest fear, but that didn't stop him from using it against me. He called me a monster and how I was becoming a danger to all of you. If that's love, then I have no desire in obtaining it from him," Mia says the words slowly and pays close attention to her microexpressions. She doubts none of the Cullens knew about his plans, so she's preparing herself for the dreadful truth. But she notices the shock in Rosalie's face. It's as if she didn't have any knowledge about what occurred.
"Mia, I'm so sorry," she apologizes before glancing in Edward's direction with a rather loathing glare.
Mia pushes herself off the tree and tries to pretend the memory of his words aren't still haunting her. It's been months since he left her and she's been trying so hard to move on, but something always happens that brings her back to that day. She knows how much Edward is trying to fix his mistake, but she's afraid he will hurt her again.
"I can't forgive him, Rose," she admits. "If this had been Emmett, would you?"
Rosalie wants to say that she would forgive him because she loves him, but she can't. Love isn't enough sometimes and no matter how much she wants her brother to be happy, she's aware his mistake is one that can't be forgiven that easily.
A sense of calm is felt once Mia walks away. Her anger has diminished and she's back to being submerged with an odd state of tranquility. Knowing this isn't linked to anything natural, she glances at the one vampire able to control emotions. Sure enough, Jasper is standing a couple feet from her and quickly looks away as if having been caught red handed.
"Jasper, you know I don't like it when you use your gift on me," Mia complains on her way to him.
"Sorry, Mia, but I sensed it was something you needed," Jasper tells her as he shortens the distance between them. "I can feel your emotions and it's... a lot."
"Sorry for making it hard on you," Mia sarcastically says in a more of a joking manner. "Look, I know I'm acting like such a pain, but I do appreciate everything you're all doing. There's no reason for you to endanger yourselves-"
"That's where you're wrong," Jasper interrupts. "There is a reason and it's you. You're our family and we take care of each other."
Those words were the same ones she was told when James was hunting her. She cherished them and held them deep in her heart, but it led to nothing but pain when they left. Everything would be so much easier if she didn't have trust issues. If she were a simple girl, she wouldn't worry and would have forgiven them already, but she can't.
"Can I ask you a possibly intrusive question?" Mia asks as an attempt to change the subject. "How do you know so much about this?"
Jasper takes a step forward and raises the sleeve of his shirt, revealing many scars in the shape of bite marks. "I didn't quite have the same upbringing as my adopted siblings."
She stares at the scars curiously, wondering how he acquired all of them and what he went through years prior. "How did you get them?"
"All the training the Union Army gave me was useless against the newborns," Jasper explains. "Still, I never lost a fight."
"Damn, so that means you were around during the Civil War," Mia's surprised that he had been around since then. Even if she's not aware how old the rest of the Cullens are (with the exception of Edward), she guesses it's decades. Now she understands why he's struggled so much with his thirst. "You're not as old as I thought."
He laughs, "Good to know I'm still viewed as young then."
"Don't get worked up over it," she teases and nudges his shoulder. "What happened then?"
"I was the youngest major in the Texas cavalry, all without having seen any real battle."
"But it didn't last," she guesses.
Jasper nods, "Till I met a certain immortal – Maria." He frowns at the mention of her, "I was riding back to Galveston after evacuating a column of women and children when I saw them. They were alone in the middle of the night, so I immediately offered them my aid. It was too dark to clearly see them, but I did notice one thing, and it was their eyes. They were blood red." He sighs heavily as the memory still appears as if it happened yesterday, "I heard them talking about me, but I tried not to think much of it. They were alone, so I worried about their safety. I now wish I had never stopped for them. Maria asked me my name and told me she hoped I'd survive. How I would be of great use for her. She approached me and before I could understand what was about to happen, it was too late."
"Maria was creating an army?" Mia asks.
"They were very common in the South. There were constant brutal battles for territory. Maria won them all," Jasper continues. "She was smart, careful, and she had me. I was her second in command. My ability to control emotions served her well. I trained her newborns, an endless occupation since she never let them live beyond their first year. It was my job to dispose of them."
"Newborns are stronger in the first seven months," Mia says as she remembers what Carlisle said. "She made sure to keep her army strong. It was smart."
Jasper agrees, "It was. When I disposed of them, I could feel everything they felt." He pauses for a moment as he recalls feeling the pain and betrayal from every single newborn he killed. He thought he was doing it in the name of love, but he was just being used. "I thought what Maria and I had was love. But I was her puppet. She pulled the strings."
"Like Victoria is doing with Riley."
"Exactly," he says. "I didn't know there was another way 'til I found Alice. Now, she'd seen me coming, of course."
"You kept me waiting long enough," Alice approaches them and hugs him from the back.
Jasper smiles at the sight, "My apologies, ma'am." He gazes at her with a look full of love and adoration, and Mia can't prevent from wishing she still had that, "I don't know what I'd have become without her."
"You never have to be that again," Alice softly reassures him before leaning in for a kiss.
A moment of reminiscence overcomes her as she remembers the good moments of her time with Edward. It was a feeling she never expected to experience and she now wishes never to have felt it at all.
It would have spared her this heartbreak and never ending resentment.
