Chapter 7: The Negotiation Process

-Y/N's POV-

Once we've gotten to the Enemy Capital, I was paraded through the city itself, whilst still in the truck. People either gawked at me in curiosity or just brushed me off.

Soldier: Welcome to the Capital of Vaspia, Mr. L/N.

The soldier said.

Me: It's amazing, the architecture. I've never seen anything like this before.

Soldier: That's 'cause you've never been here before boy!

The soldier joked.

Soldier: First we gotta get you groomed up kid. You can't go negotiating the surrender of your nation like this.

Me: It's not surrender, I'll try and go for unconditional.

I said, using another term I'd heard from my father before. I understood this one though.

Soldier: Good luck with that Mr. I've Only Been Chancellor For Not Even A Week...

Once we arrived at the Vaspian Parliament, I was led to my own designated room, with two of my own soldiers in full uniform, probably POWs guarding me.

Guard: Supreme Chancellor! It's great to see you alive!

Me: You're the guy that I was with in the Capital.

I said, recognizing him as the man that saved me from artillery fire.

Guard: Indeed, I still pride myself on that rescue.

Once I entered the room, I was given a newly made uniform almost identical to my Chancellor's Wear.

Guard 2: Once you're done, We'll escort you to the room.

Me: Got it...

One Big Makeover Later...

After that, I felt like I was back in the bunker, clean and sharp. I make a few last minute adjustments to my hair and my tie, plus my extremely dark green suit.

I opened the doors to my room, exiting into the hallway. My two guards flanking me by either side.

Me: Let's go.

Guard 1: Right this way Supreme Chancellor.

I was led into hallway after hallway, winding turns and confusing routes made me question whether this was an actual Parliament or some lame-ass prank made by 'Mistress Manning'.

It was then when I was led into an elevator, the two guards remained outside, turning a crank of some sort, sending me at least by my own estimates, two or three floors down.

It was then I entered another hallway, the door was guarded too, this time with two Vaspain guards, with their Deep blue uniforms with red engravings.

Guard: Mister L/N, welcome. Madame Manning is waiting inside.

I decided to be as formal as I could be for this, picking up on party manners and self-taught restrictions

Me: Thank you gentlemen, May I pass?

Guard: Of course, sir.

He opened the door, leading me into a small room, with at least six banners displaying the Vaspian Symbol on them. A table sat in the centre of the room, a candlelit dinner and a girl also sat there, she was as almost if not much more sharply dressed than I was. I could see multiple guards in the dark corners of the room, their eyes trained on me. I calmed myself down as I slowly approached the table.

Sara: Well well well, if it isn't F/N's son himself.

She had on a white uniform, like the guards at the doors red engraves dotted her uniform. She wore a black cap with another Vaspian Symbol, grey mittens that exposed the tips of her fingers and her blonde hair and blue eyes were almost flawless. I almost stuttered myself as I tried to find a way to respond.

Me: I'm guessing that you're Sara Manning?

Sara: Why yes, please. Have a seat.

I cleared my throat and made my way into the seat opposite of hers.

Sara: It's exciting to have a negotiations over peace terms. This is my first time.

Me: This is my first time doing anything productive as Chancellor.

I admit. Sara gently chuckles at this.

Sara: First off let's start with the basics, I'm terribly sorry if my men had been a bit too strict for your standards.

Me: Nope, I've been used to strict ruling back at my. bunker in Capital.

Sara: Hmm, yes. I see. Anyways, Y/N L/N, I've long since given the order and withdrawn my forces out of your Capital, it has held up surprisingly well, considering it's the last bastion of defence your nation has in it's card deck.

Me: I am going to admit that I personally activated Operation Red Street myself, all of the city had been fortified. The fact that I thought this might've been my last year of life kind of frightened me.

Sara: No need to fear now Y/N, there might not be any need for war once this little talk of ours ends.

She said, brushing her long blonde hair to the side. She snapped, signalling a waiter.

Sara: I'll have the wine please, and... perhaps some water for Mr. L/N here.

Me: Um, no thank you Madam. I'll happily have the wine as well.

He bowed, before he went off into the kitchen to fetch some glasses.

Sara: Continuing on, with the fact that my Army now occupies almost all of your nation, we have your capital surrounded, and the fact that I have almost 175,000 of your soldiers as POWs. I formally ask for your surrender...

Me: No thank you.

I reply. She raised her eyebrow, giving me a confused look. Tilting her head to the side.

Sara: Hmph, I see. Well then... Defiant hm?...

She gently asked, not showing a hint of discomfort.

Sara: ...Let's have a look at your own terms than. Dear L/N.

She jokingly addressed.

Me: I have my Capital still fortified. If you pull out your armies, and release all of your prisoners and return them to me, without any consequences for my nation, seeing as my father is dead and has paid for his crimes against your country, I'll leave you and Vaspia alone. I offer you a ceasefire for my nation

Sara gave me a smile, giggled and responded without a slowdown in pace to which she had been talking earlier.

Sara: Silly silly silly little boy, you don't bargain unless you have something I want or need... Tsk tsk tsk, you don't.

I stuttered.

Me: I-I'm not little, you seriously look like as if you're my age which is probably true... And I do have something you want... less dead soldiers.

Sara's cup of wine had arrived along with mine, she grabbed it and took a sip out of the chalice.

Sara: Under certain conditions, I'd agree to that... Otherwise I'm afraid your arguments are irrelevant to me. You don't control me, practically and obviously, I control you. I can throw body after body at your little fortress, eventually it'll crack. Simply put, just because I'm a girl doesn't mean I'm going easy on you, I don't care how much it takes before your Capital is rubble beneath my feet.

Me: We have a supply of Chlorine gas stored in Fort Eithen south of the Capital, in your drive to the Capital you ignored this because you thought it wasn't a huge threat. I have an Ace up my sleeve, and I'm laying it down. Pull your forced out of the State and they probably won't send it over to your country's camps.

Sara: I see...

She said, sipping out of the chalice once more. Mine had arrived at this moment, and I too took a sip of the red liquid.

Sara: You're a brave one, I like that, but bravery and persistence are like peanut butter and jelly, they go together quite well. I guess it would unnerve you to say that 11 divisions are now in your nation because, Oh my! Surprise, the new bridge has been built. I've been going easy on you for now, but you're getting on my last nerves.

Me: Pull your troo-

I tried once more, she only interrupted. Speaking less like a lady and more authoritative.

Sara: In your own words, No thank you. Listen, I have new terms... Surrender the Capital, Fort Eithen, Your supply of Chlorine Gas, every reserve division west of the city and your whole nation will be turned into a. puppet 'State' of ours. Please, I don't want to have to do what I've been waiting to do ever since your army set foot in MY nation.

With no other options left for me, or my people. I reluctantly decided to put it all behind me. I sighed before I responded.

Me: I... Um.

-Sara's POV-

Me: ...Mmmmm What? What's keeping you from answering a question so simple? Angst? Fear? Pride?

Y/N: You could say... Pride. Statesmen have never surrendered conditionally to any nation.

Me: I guess that's changing now?

I ask, moving my right hand into my holster. Gripping my pistol if he tried anything he thinks would be a useful alternative.

Y/N: I... Supreme Chancellor Y/N L/N, agree to all of your terms and formally surrender myself and my nation, The State to you, Sara Manning.

I nod in agreement, Exactly what I wanted to hear from him

Me: Ah, that wasn't too hard was it?

I ask, standing up and unholstering my pistol.

He drew aback as I laughed and holstered it. He breathed a sigh of relief as I then stretched a bit.

Y/N: This mist feel really good for you huh?

He asked nonchalantly. I smirked.

Me: Admiringly yes...

He stood up and began walking to the door, the point where I again drew my pistol.

Me: Ahh, ta ta... Now where are you going?

He turned and looked at me. Seemingly surprised.

-Y/N's POV-

What did she still want with me!?

She walked up to me, still holding her pistol. Even though she was still a bit shorter than me, she still kept me frozen in place. She smiled and planted a peck on my cheek.

Sara: Don't you get it? Silly puppet... I, control you now. No matter what you think, no matter what you say. You're nothing else... but my little puppet... You're. staying. here, so I can keep my eye on you and make sure whatever you're doing is exactly fit, to my needs. Do you understand, Y/N?

I didn't answer back, I knew what would happen if I did, she'd meet my argument with steel and bloodshed. What could I do.

Me: Yup, I understand.

I sighed, what more was there for me to do. She held my whole nation hostage at this point...

Just then, a General stormed into the room, surprising both of us.

???: Mistress! We have a problem!
