Chapter 6: The Republic of Vaspia
Sara's POV
Me: ...Yes, General Grave I'm aware of the rumours that L/N had committed suicide.
Grave: Not just that Madame, NCO Markus Wright of the 38th Infantry Detachment is currently in The State's Capital. He's reported to have found a boy, about your age... with on him the Chancellor's clothes...
Me: Excuse me Grave? Am I hearing this right?
I asked, genuinely curious.
Grave: Yes, you hear me right Ms. Manning. We have reason to assume that the maniac himself probably kicked the bucket, and Has just willed his own son to lead the damned nation himself...
Well, F/N wasn't ever really that much of a man of honor, But this...?
Me: Well, this is an unexpected turn... Hm, in that case...
Y/N's POV
Location: ???
0347 Hours
I slowly awoke, at first I thought I was dead...
Me: Was I? Had I escaped this Hell? Though, my people... they'd be dead too. Without even a leader they'd be-
My thoughts were cut short as I felt a sharp bump from the floor, the eerie sound of creaking from the wheels of a cargo train entered my ears with intent. I groaned in pain as I sat up slowly and held my head, Ouch.
POW: Supreme Chancellor, is it really you?
Me: Does it look l am? I don't even think I'm the leader of the country anymore.
POW 2: Yeah, bummer on that...
Every other POW agreed with him.
POW: We're all probably going to die here, on a goddamn train to the enemy's Capital City.
Me: What was that? We're headed to the Enemy Capital?
I ask bewildered.
POW 2: Yup, they looked at your uniform when we saw em' capture you. They knew you weren't the average State commissioned foot soldier.
Me: Hmm, damn. Guess I'm on my way to probably get executed, tortured or whatever bad shit they've got.
I humorously rant, even though deep down. I knew it wasn't gonna be pretty at all.
It was just then the train suddenly stopped, the cars jolted backwards, sending most of us bumping into one another.
The doors slowly opened and I could see a tall figure dressed in a uniform. It was snowing outside and he had on heavy winter clothing, a pair of goggles, a helmet of the Enemy Nation, and a piece of cloth over his mouth. He pointed an SMG into the train car.
POW: That fast?! I thought we were on our way to the Capital City.
Enemy Soldier: Not you all, Greencoat mooks... Just him.
The soldier pointed through the crowd, everyone else parted, leaving me in the dim light of the sun through the clouds outside. I gulped silently as two other men in uniform stomped into the train car, offering me a winter coat, I hesitantly took it and they led me out to the cold, a whole convoy of enemy military vehicles sat outside of the train station, more of the similarly dressed soldiers awaited me outside.
Enemy Soldier 2: Alright, he's all we're here for! Tell the driver to start up again! Make sure the furnace is red hot!
Conductor: Yes sir.
The man trembling in a mere blue suit retreated into the train as I was led into a truck, and placed into the back. I looked out again as I saw that the train was huge! It could've been large enough to hoist at least thousands of POWs. Though, were was it going too?
Enemy Soldier 2: Alright bud, start up the truck.
He signalled, the engine turned on as the enemy soldier from before who had opened the door, or at least I thought it was him. Entered the car with me.
Soldier: Are you the son of former Chancellor F/N L/N?
Me: Yeah, why'd you ask?
I socialized, albeit out of curiosity. Considering these soldiers haven't said a thing nasty to me ever since I've gotten off the train. The truck bumped all around as we navigated the harsh Winter terrain.
Soldier: Welcome to the Republic of Vaspia, Mister L/N.
The Republic of Vaspia, we Statesmen never refereed our countries as their real names. Only 'the Enemy' since it was easier and simpler to say. The fact that this soldier just introduced me... respectfully to his country's territory was, really surprising.
Soldier: Mistress Manning, our newly proclaimed leader. is surprised over this new leadership over the enemy. An NCO of The 38th SMG Stormbrigade discovered you in full uniform back in your Capital. He was surprised to see that you donned the clothing of your father, he contacted General Grave and told him about you, and recollected that a captured Statesman Soldier from before had confessed that your father had shot himself and was cremated.
I nodded slightly.
Me: I understand that, but. What does that have to do with me?
I rebuked and asked.
Soldier: Ms. Manning had seized the moment to end the War with you Statesmen. Since you've taken over for your father as Chancellor she believes that negotiating peace terms with you should be much simpler than it should be with you father.
Me: Oh, I see. Well, then long is it to the Vaspian Capital?
Soldier: Not too long, we're only a half hour away. She's excited to meet you.
The soldier chuckled. I nodded in response.
Me: I hope so, I have to end this... I may not be a real Chancellor. But I'm dammed sure that I'm going to stop all this unnecessary pain.
Soldier: Hm, inspiring words...
He said, cradling his SMG in hand.
