Trois

The quick movement caused Satoshi to open his eyes. He slowly turned to the place where he heard the movement but noticed it was just the room's curtains. He closed his eyes again, desiring to resume back to his sleep before his eyes shot wide open and he sat upwards quickly.

This was not his hotel room. Satoshi rubbed his eyes furiously before studying closely the room he was in. The room was covered with soft yellow wallpaper and it had its small balcony wooden doors open, making the color cream curtains drift with the... evening breeze?

Satoshi noticed how he was on a nice big size bed tucked in with soft silk cover blankets. Satoshi panicked, checking his clothing before sighing with relief. He still had his clothes. As Satoshi rubbed his head pain away Takeshi walked in carrying a tray of biscuit and tea.

"Look who's awake." Takeshi greeted him happily before placing the tray on a nice marble table in the center of the room. "Where am I?" Satoshi asked, well more demanded from Takeshi.

The doctor just smiled as he poured hot tea on one china teacup. "Do you not recall where I took you?" Satoshi snorted, "Mate either you drugged me or you drugged me because there is no way in bloody hell you transported me to... Paris was it?"

Takeshi nodded.

"Back to 1800s Paris. There is no way!" Satoshi exclaimed before standing up from the soft bed. Takeshi just shrugged, "Don't believe me then." He then began to drink his tea calmly as he made himself comfortable in one of the soft velvet cushion chairs near the table. Satoshi glared at him before storming out the giant room and rushing down the hall.

He then ran down the hard dark wood stairs and yanked the large metal door open before gasping in shock.

The view could not be true. There was no way.

"Beautiful isn't she?" Satoshi gasped as he turned to see a maid right beside him. She was standing, admiring the evening view of Paris with him, as her hands carried a pile of clothes.

Satoshi couldn't say anything. Everything about this woman screamed old... She wore an ancient 1800s maid outfit and her hair was up in an old fashioned way.

She must have felt Satoshi's eyes on her before she bowed down and introduced herself, "My apologies sir. My name is Margaret Gray." Satoshi wanted to say something, anything... but he couldn't. He was petrified at everything that was going on. He couldn't be in France... he couldn't be here.

Satoshi just looked at Margaret, with widened eyes full of fear before he dashed up to the room he was in.

He was stunned to find Takeshi calmly sipping his tea. "What did you do to me?!" Satoshi yelled at him as he stormed towards him. Takeshi placed his cup down as he replied, "Now Satoshi, you never asked where and not even when I was taking you. I just offered you an adventure and you agreed..."

"You scumbag!" Satoshi yelled angrily, "What do you want from me?!" Takeshi gave him a small smile however that smile didn't reach his eyes, "Bathe first and change your clothes. Dinner is at seven. We'll talk then." Takeshi stood up before giving a silent nod at him and exiting the room.

All Satoshi wanted to do was scream in frustration.

Satoshi was shocked at how soft silk was. Although he grew up rich his parents never chose to raise him in a rich setting life. He wore basic clothing material and never bragged about his status.

Upon entering the long dining room, he found it quite pleasing that the room was connected to a glass wall which on the other side showed a beautiful garden. Takeshi was sitting on the other side of the table, expecting the young gentlemen to enter the room at any moment.

Takeshi motioned his hand to the empty seat next to him, "Please, sit down." Satoshi cautiously sat down, scooting his chair a further away from Takeshi. "Where do you want to start? We have roast duck, tea, cheese, baguette, meat, ham-"

"Who are you? You're not a doctor are you?"

Takeshi smiled sadly before pushing away his wine glass and folding his hands. Satoshi suddenly almost felt very awful asking him that question. His entire aurora changed into a despond one.

"I believe I shall start from the beginning." Takeshi said softly as Satoshi interjected, "There's no need to-"

"I insist, now be quiet." Satoshi nodded before letting Takeshi continue. "I was born in this very household about twenty-seven years ago. I was the oldest child of Lola and Flint Castillos. My father was a well-known Physician in Paris and I had nine younger siblings..."

Satoshi sucked in a breath when he heard the word "had".

"I grew up in a pretty wealthy family and got a proper education and all. My father knew the burden of being a Physician kept one away from their family so he never wanted any of us to become like him. He wanted me to become a company owner. I despised his desires."

Takeshi became a bit quiet before he took in a deep breath and said, "It was a blazing hot summer day. I had just finished my doctoral school in London. I lied to my father, telling him I was studying Latin at Cambridge. I remember... feeling so happy showing him my..." Takeshi took in a deep breath, "...showing him my degree of being a licensed Doctor. Instead of receiving praise or a hug my father slammed my degree to the ground."

Satoshi closed his eyes. He didn't want Takeshi to continue telling him his story as he saw how uncomfortable he looked recalling these events. "He yelled at me, telling me how disappointed he was in me. He didn't want me to end up like him. I got so mad at him I remembered screaming at him. Calling him awful names." Takeshi's eyes reflected such deep pain as he tightened his folded hands together.

"Before I left to pursue my degree, my mother became seriously ill and depressed. She wasn't the same after the miscarriage she had. I became so frustrated and disappointed at my father as he was a Physician. How could he have let my mother... my sweet caring mother get to that state?" Takeshi cleared his throat, "My father demanded me to leave my profession and marry the girl he chose for me while I was away in England. After screaming at him I got my degree and marched away from my house. I needed to cool down and I remembered my brother, Forest, telling me to not leave. I told him I would be back, I just needed to cool down."

Takeshi unclasped his folded hands to rub the tears threatening to fall down his face away, "It was night time, I was walking back home after hanging out by the park. The first thing that caught my eye was the glaring red fire before me." Takeshi looked at Satoshi, regret written in his expression, "The whole house was in blazing flames and I swear to you at that moment it looked like I was seeing hell before my eyes."

"After the fire was put out they counted the bodies inside the house and-" Takeshi shut his eyes tightly, "Eleven people were found dead. Every single one of them. Taken from me just like that." Satoshi looked at him sympathetically.

Takeshi continued, "Turns out a candle caused the whole house to set fire. A simple candle... I wasn't the same after that night. I became depressed. I didn't have the strength anymore to pursue a doctor's career. How could I have the right to save people when I couldn't even save my own family? I was a monster for leaving them like that..."

Takeshi lifted his wine glass before sipping it. He placed it back down before he resumed, "I began hearing screams of help at night. Horror screaming of being burned alive. I became insane. I disappeared from the city's public and was sent to a mental hospital far from here. After spending a few months at one in Whales I came back cured of my illness. My family maid, Margaret, was so kind as to rebuild my home during my time away from Paris. It wasn't till a few months later, after accepting the death of my family that I found a car hidden in an abandoned bush area out my family's estates fields."

Takeshi smiled a bit as if the memory of finding the car was pleasant. "Turned the car on and found a letter containing info that the car was my father's and he had it shipped from Germany. I gave it a test run and let's say I arrived during a very crisis moment in France. Where heads rolled."

"The French revolution?" Satoshi asked as Takeshi nodded, "I was terrified. Upon returning here I wanted to burn that thing but something in my gut told me to not. Not sure why."

"So why me?" Satoshi asked, raising an eyebrow. Takeshi smiled a little, "I had a dream one day and in that dream I was up in a tower. I heard the screaming of a woman and next to me was a man. I never quite caught the man's face until a few weeks later."

Takeshi looked at Satoshi seriously as he declared, "You were that man Satoshi. The voice in my mind kept telling me to go find you and get you but I didn't even know who the hell you were."

"What?" Satoshi asked, astonished. "Another night I had a dream about the numbers 1964 and the world fair. So naturally I knew they were clues and went straight to the World Fair of 1964. New York." Satoshi listened attentively.

"That's where I saw you." Takeshi said, pointing at Satoshi. "The minute I saw you I was blown away. You were in a portrait exhibition and I was under the fair administration as a Doctor and painter booth leader. I knew I had to convince you to come with me and seeing that girl on your arm all the time gave me the perfect chance to offer you an escape from your harsh life. Upon researching you from local news reporters and journalists I knew exactly who you were."

Takeshi studied Satoshi closely as he said, pointing his fork at him, "I don't know why I dreamt of you. I don't know why you are needed here but you're here now and you're here for a reason."

"So I slept until evening, correct?" Satoshi questioned, grabbing his fork slowly. Takeshi nodded. "That means I've been gone for so long back at my time I-" Takeshi shook his head, interrupting him. "No. That's not how this works."

"I beg your pardon?"

"This whole time travel. It has its mind of its own. You could be here for a month but back home it'll be an hour or a minute, or even a second. Time has its mind of its own." Takeshi informed him sadly.

"What!" Satoshi exclaimed, shocked.

"Yes, and if you wish to return you must start the car on a foggy day. Something about the fog just activates this incredible time traveling phenomenon. Anyway I wish for your help as well to fix my reputation here in Paris." Takeshi offered as Satoshi raised an eyebrow at him. "After my time in the hospital I haven't been the shining son of Flint no more. I need help in restoring my family's honor."

Before Satoshi could reply Margaret walked in and declared, "Sire, the clothes and shoes have been disposed. "

"Thank you Margaret," Takeshi said graciously before she left the room.

Takeshi smiled at Satoshi as he asked, "Hope you didn't mind us burning your clothes and shoes. Need to get rid of future things"

Satoshi almost stabbed Takeshi at that moment.
