First Day
Percy's first day started off with getting his schedule for classes. The others at his table sighed and explained that the teachers that day were horrible. Percy chuckled at their reactions but hoped the teachers wouldn't be too hard on them.
Percy saw Harry and his friends at breakfast but didn't have a chance to talk to them. He sighed as he made his way to Defence Against The Dark Arts. As everyone sat down the old woman entered the room. She looked just like a pink toad. Percy fought to keep himself from saying so.
But he had heard what this woman had said last night. She wasn't here because she was chosen she was put here my the Ministry. And if Percy had to bet it was to keep an eye on Dumbledore. From his talks with Hermione and the twins, not to mention Annabeth who he had been IMing since getting to the UK, he put together the situation pretty quick.
Voldemort, Percy's granddad, was back but no one wanted it to be true. So everyone ignored Harry and Dumbledore. And the ministry was suspicious of Dumbledore just wanting to take over as Minster of Magic. All around it was a bad deal of corruption. And Percy was right in the middle of it.
In the class she had belittled what the other teachers had thought them. She critziced the whole school and said that they wouldn't be doing magic just reading about it. Percy wanted to speak out about this but held his tongue. He knew he had to try and warn Harry about this woman.
So he got through double DADA to go to History of Magic. The teacher was a ghost, a real ghost. Percy was glad it wasn't Nico over here or he would have scared all of the ghosts and that would take some explaining. Percy managed to stay awake throughout most of the class. But the teacher was going over stuff Percy had already read and knew about. So halfway through class his head slipped onto his arms and he passed out. He was woken up by the boy who had sat by him, it was one of his roommates, the blonde one.
Percy wiped his mouth of drool and headed to lunch. After lunch where he tried to warn Harry but hadn't gotten the chance, he had Divination.
The woman teaching the class was weird. She looked a bit like a bug with her glasses but the way she acted was even weirder. She was dramatic and took huge breaths between words to make everything seem misty. The way she talked Percy knew she was a fraud, even if Hermione and the twins hadn't told him already.
He had to discuss dreams with someone so he made something up. He couldn't tell them his real dreams. Their assignments was a dream journal. Percy figured he could do it in advance once he got time. But next he had double Potions.
He had heard a lot about Snape from the other kids, and even met him once. But Percy truly got why everyone disliked him while in his class.
He had told them right off the bat that most, if not all of them, would not pass their O.W.L.s enough to continue the class. Next he told them to make the Draught of Peace, very difficult potion to master. Percy tried to follow the instructions from the book since he couldn't read the ones on the board, but some of them just didn't feel right. Like the water in the cauldron told him not to do it.
By the end of the class Snape went around and scolded those who didn't do it right. Most of the Ravenclaws in the room looked like they wanted to pull out their hair. Most students had taken parts of their uniform off and Percy was no exception. He had his robes and sweater vest laying by his cauldron. He loosened his tie and unbuttoned the top button on his shirt. With all the fires going in the room it was super hot. Snape finally got to Percy and a look of surprise crossed his face. Percy raised an eyebrow.
"You. . ." Snape began. "Have you ever made this potion before?" He asked narrowing his eyes.
"No, sir. Remember I just found out I'm a wizard." Percy explained. He couldn't believe that Snape asked him that.
"It's just that..." The man looked truly ruffled. "Your Draught of Peace is perfect." Snape spoke softly as if in awe. The other students were looking now. Talking.
"Well I just. . . I don't know what you want me to say." Percy explained. He felt self-conscious with all the attention. Class was almost over so Percy buttoned his shirt back up and tightened his tie. "I'm glad that it turned out right. Is it really that hard to believe that I just did it right?" Percy asked with genuine curiosity.
"Yes." Snape said. He blinked before straightening back up and shaking his head. "Anyways. Ten points to Hufflepuff and your homework is to write a paper on Moonstone and it's uses in potions." He dismissed them and Percy slung his bag, a satchel type thing, over both shoulders so it hung by the opposite hip, and held his robe and sweater in one hand as he left.
Walking out he got pats on the back and smiles. The Hufflepuffs were really friendly but even the Ravenclaws, who hate not being the best, we're congratulating him. Percy smiled and walked to the Hufflepuff commons to work on some homework before dinner in the Great hall.
Percy heard the whispering. Harry had blown up in DADA. Percy couldn't believe Harry let his temper get him like that. Percy walked into the Great Hall and sat down. While he was thinking about what to say to Harry he ate and heard people talking about Harry and tryouts for some sport.
Finally Harry and his two friends stormed out of the hall. Percy followed.
"What d'you mean, you're not sure they believed Dumbledore?" Harry asked Hermione. That's when Percy answered. He had ran to catch up with them and now they were on the first floor landing.
"What she means is people don't understand." Percy said. The other three turned to him startled. "From what I've heard they just saw you appear with Cedric's body. Then Dumbledore told them about Voldemort. But none of them saw a thing then they spent the whole summer seeing things discredit you and him, and what's worse is that they want you guys to be wrong. They can't face the facts because the facts are scary." Percy saw the looks on the three younger kid's faces.
Harry was angry, Hermione was in awe and Ron was just shocked. Percy held in his laughter at their faces. "But that's not exactly what I wanted to talk to you about." Harry seemed to recover from Percy's sudden appearance and was about to interject when Percy shut him down. "This school, to stand a chance, needs to work together. Nothing can get done without that happening. And it won't happen if you scowl at everyone who passes!" Percy said to Harry.
"I get it. You aren't being believed and you're hurt by that. But you need to get your temper under control. That stunt I heard you pulled in DADA will not help anything. You can try and undermine her all you want but she is going to be like a cockroach." Percy was leaning down a bit down. "And I understand what you're going through, trust me I do. But being rude to everyone, including Ron and Hermione from what I've seen, will get you nowhere."
Hermione smiled at Percy but he was to busy focusing on Harry to notice. Ron looked utterly confused and Harry blinked before going red with anger. "Now listen here-"
"No." Percy stopped him. "Now I'm going to leave and go back to my dorm but listen to me. Umbridge is a foul woman, she is obviously here to spy for the Minster of Magic. You give her even a hint that Dumbledore is doing something and he's gone." Percy sighed and straightened up. He loosened his tie as he had his robes and sweater dropped over his satchel bag. Percy ran his hand through his hair.
"Just. Be careful. Hermione keep an eye on him, try and keep his temper in check. Ron same to you, but keep yours as well. And Harry, I get what kind of pressure you're under. But you just have to roll with it. Goodnight." Percy shook his head and left the younger teens standing there.
When he got back to the commons room of the Hufflepuffs Percy sat down on one of the couches. He rubbed at his face then looked around. No one was around. He checked the time, she would be out of school and at home.
Percy got up and went over to a hidden alcove that no one could view from just walking into the door, it would give him enough time to cut the connection in case someone came in. Percy used water from a flower vase to make mist then took out a drachma from his satchel, he always carried a few just in case.
"Oh Fleecy, do me a solid. Annabeth Chase Manhattan, New York." The mist changed to show a blonde girl sitting on her bed. Her curly blonde hair was done up in a pony tail and she wore a shirt that was much too big for her that said 'I Like To Surf, Can You Tell?' And pj pants.
She looked up and smiled. Her grey eyes sparkled. Percy smiled back. "What's up Wise Girl?" It was the first time he could talk to her since getting to Hogwarts, of course they had IMed when he was at Number 12.
Annabeth set aside her math book and smiled again. "Just doing homework. What about you?" Percy wished he could run his fingers through her hair and smell the faint lemony sent of her.
"I guess I'm doing fine. Harry lost his temper at this one teacher, who was sent from the ministry by the way, and I told him not to do that and . . . This is a lot of work. But I think I have somewhat of a handle on things." Percy gave his trouble maker smile and Annabeth chuckled.
"When do we ever have a full grasp on something? You'll be fine." Annabeth blew a kiss and Percy caught it. Gods they were so cheesy.
"I'll be glad for break when I can come home. Then I have to come back . . . But hey I got my house some points. Oh by the way I'm a Hufflepuff." Percy had told Annabeth about the different houses when the twins first talked to him about them.
"Oh I knew you would. It's the loyal and friendly house, how could you not?" Annabeth teased.
"Stop it." Percy blushed and rubbed the back of his neck. "And I've thought about it. Your house would be Ravenclaw or Slythrin. Because of your ambition and cunning but you really value intelligence. So I can't decide between those two."
"Yeah I could see that." Annabeth thought it over. Percy was about to say something when he heard lots of foot steps.
"Got to go, talk later, love you!" He rushed out and cut the connection as Annabeth said love you back. Kids poured into the common room and Percy pulled his homework closer to him and casually leaned over it. It was like he had been doing it this entire time.
