The Feeling of Heaven
The four of them nodded to each other before stepping into the gate of heaven together. One moment they were standing in the third floor of an old and large wear house, and the next a bright light built up until it was impossible to see around them and faded away once again only to reveal they were in a completely place. Lily rolled up the sleeves of her hoodie and looked around, it was just a white corridor with tons of doors lining the walls, most of the doors had the names of people while a few had labels that led to different locations within the place. If her vague memories were anything to go by then they were indeed in heaven.
The four of them stood still tensely for a moment, ready to bolt to one of the many doors to hide at the indication of the slightest moment. Thankfully no one appeared so Cas quietly stepped forward and took the lead, with Lily and the Winchester brothers alertly following behind him.
It wasn't long before the four of them scrambled inside one of the doors to hide from a group of five angels. Right now it would be best to avoid confrontation with the angels.
Lily turned around to see what this door led to, only to be met with a warm breeze from the ocean and palm trees swaying gently in the wind. It was the heaven of a man from around the fifties, based on his clothing. He sat in a chair underneath a palm tree staring at the four in front of him.
"Uh," Lily decided to speak first, "sorry to bother you sir, we'll be leaving soon, but, if any angels come by, could you say we weren't here?" Lily ask sheepishly.
"So, is that what hunters these days do for fun? Break into heaven?" The man asked and Lily's eyes widened,
"Were you a hunter?" The man shook his head and chuckled,
"Oh no, not me. I didn't have the stomach for that kinda thing, I was married to one." Lily didn't ask why his partner wasn't in heaven with him, if they weren't with him then there weren't many other pleasant places they could be. Lily simply nodded,
"Ah."
"Now go, I've taken up enough of you four's time. I won't tell another soul you were here, so go."
"Thank you, sir." With that Lily opened the door and the four of them exited the room.
"Ya learn something new everyday." Dean remarked before they kept on moving.
Lily wasn't sure how far they travelled down the white corridor and how many turns they took until they accidentally ran into a group of angels. There were only three so Sam and Dean ganged up on one while Lily and Cas went for the other two. The angel slashed at Lily but Lily pulled herself back in time, only getting a small cut on her arm. Lily recovered from the sudden shift in her weight placement before she swiftly kicked the angel in the gut which knocked him off balance, using this as her chance to stab the angel with her blade. She yanked the blade out from the now dead angel's side before turning around to face the others who had also taken down their foes.
Cas took the lead once again and continued walking forward, Lily began lagging behind a bit as she wiped the blood off the small cut on her arm and took this as a chance to inspect other minor injuries she obtained when they were fighting their way up the wear house. Lily's eyes flickered to right and landed on a door that caught eye, there were two names on the door, 'Azure Maria Maillet and-' was all Lily read before she tore her eyes away when Sam called her,
"Lily, c'mon. We don't have much time." Lily nodded her head and caught up with the others,
"R-right, sorry." She pushed the curiosity for the door and who owned the second name to the back of her mind and focused just in time to hear Cas warn of approaching angels and throw herself into the first door she could open. No one else followed her in as she quickly closed the door, keeping one hand firm on the door handle as she breathed a sigh of relief.
This heaven she had entered in her scramble to get out of sight belonged to a small boy with curly brown hair swept to one side and brown eyes to match who had been playing with toy monsters in the middle of a garden of flowers which Liky believed were called Forget-Me-Nots. The little boy blinked up at Lily and Lily blinked back at him, not saying anything for a moment before putting a finger up to her lips,
"Shhhh." The boy nodded in understanding and gave her a salute with his small arms, Lily grinned at him and peaked out the door before slipping back out to regroup with Sam, Dean, and Cas.
"Metatron's office is up ahead, we need to prepare the curse now." Spoke Cas, his voice a notch quieter than usual. Dean, Sam, and Lily all nodded, Lily was very aware of the fact that there were an infinite number of things that could possibly go wrong, but there weren't really any other options. Lily tucked a curl of her black hair behind her ear as she remembered all the times they went over the plan during the ride in the Impala to where they were now, but yet for all that planning and reviewing Lily still didn't feel ready. Though, Lily wasn't sure any of her friends with her right now really felt ready.
Dean quietly took down the two stoic looking angels that stood guard outside of Metatron's office while Lily, Sam, and Cas prepared the spell and mixed the necessary ingredients together. Unbeknownst to the four of them, was that a certain someone was rushing through the many corridors of heaven trying to catch up to them, anxious eyes darting from door to door hoping to spot the one they're looking for.
Dean had finished taking care of the angels the four set their plan into motion. Lily and Cas stepped in front of Sam and Dean, their bodies blocking the wooden bowl the Winchester brothers were holding from view. Lily and Cas nodded to each other and kicked the door open, which seemed to have caught Metatron by surprise if the look on his face was anything to go by. However, Metatron quickly hid his surprise by forcing a pleased grin onto his face.
"Ah, the 'heroes' are here. I must confess, I expected you four to appear a minute later than you did," Metatron said as he rose from his seat and slowly walked towards them, "you've come to take this from me, right?" Metatron asked as her grabbed the angel tablet from him desk and waved it at them before placing it back down. Lily growled, just Metatron's annoying voice was enough to practically make her blood boil,
"Damn right we're here to take it away from you."
"How do you 'heroes' plan on doing that anyway?" Asked Metatron, the cockiness evident in his voice. What he hadn't realized, or rather, what he hadn't heard, was that Sam and Dean had been muttering the curse's incantation the entire time. Both Dean and Sam had already cut the palms of their hands, the required blood drops only milliseconds from falling into the bowl and activating the curse when Metatron yelled out, "Oh no you don't!" Before using his angel abilities to pin Sam, Dean, and Cas to the wall and shoving Lily towards him and grabbing her by the wrist, making sure to fling all their angel blades away as extra precaution. "You sneaky little rodents, you four almost had me there." Lily growled and tried to yank her wrist back, but to no avail. Metatron used his power to slide the wooden bowl of ingredients far from them all and in front of the door. "Now the thing is, Lily, or would you rather me call you Ashriel?" Lily spat in his face and Metatron wiped it off with his other sleeve, "Just as feisty as when we met, I see," Metatron remarked mostly to himself, "anyway, the thing is I need you, you were once a very powerful Seraph angel. And even if it takes months- possibly years- of breaking down your mind you will eventually be quite the powerful general once you get your grace back, so I won't kill you. At least one antagonist should get a shot of redemption right?" Metatron grinned at Lily as she tried and failed to tug her wrist out of Metatron's grip again.
Lily's mind was racing, 'What are we gonna do? Is there even anything we can do? What if this is the end of the line?' Lily's thoughts were interrupted by a voice she was certain at this point that she wouldn't get to hear again,
"Lilium amat caeruleum et magicis carminibus effercio!" Yelled Azure as she sliced her palm open with her angel blade, blood ran down her hand and into the wooden bowl as her eyes locked onto Metatron. Azure had abandoned her hospital gown and was sporting her usual clothes, though she had a few cuts here and there and a small bruise or two, for the the most part she was fine.
"H-" was all Metatron got the chance to say before the spell went into affect and paralyzed him where he stood. Lily gawked at Azure who was stood at the door way before snapping out of it at the sound of Azure's voice,
"We don't have time! Just break the tablet and I'll explain later!" Lily yanked her wrist from Metatron's hand and grabbed the angel tablet, the source of Metatron's strength, already Lily could feel the curse on Metatron weakening already. Lily heaved the tablet into the air before smashing it to the ground, immediately Dean, Cas, and Sam were released from the power that kept them stuck to the wall. The curse broke almost immediately after and Metatron was free to move again, but it was too late for him to do anything, he yelled in frustration as the of four hunters moved to stand next to Lily,
"It's over Metatron. You lost." Dean spoke in an intimidating voice and Metatron pulled at his hair in frustration, "It's not fair! You know you could've had your grace back, Lily? I was so close to getting rid of you nuisances! I had those brainless angels at my beck and call! They would've been my servants and I would have been in control of all of of heaven-" Azure interrupted Metatron's angry rant,
"You might wanna keep your voice down, all of heaven's listening to you via your paging system." All four humans grinned at him and a small smirk was on Cas's lips as he continued to hold down the button on the paging microphone. Dean turned his head towards the door and saw several angry angels standing at the door way,
"I think we should get out of the way guys, it looks like they want a word with Metatron." The now united team free will exited Metatron's office and let the angry angels have their ways with him, with an angel by the name of Hannah escorting them out of heaven.
The Winchester brothers and Cas were discussing something with Hannah near the entrance of the wear house while Lily and Azure leaned against the hood of the Impala,
"So, now that our lives aren't at risk, 'Zure, how the hell did you follow us into heaven even though you had been shanked?" Azure let out a sheepish chuckle,
"Well, this kinda short guy just walked in a little after you guys left, he seemed like a nice guy. He told me his name was Chuck and walked up to where I was laying in bed and healed me completely." Lily's eyes widened and her mouth hung open a bit, as Sam and Dean had told Lily when they first started traveling together, the writer of the supernatural books was a prophet who later turned out to be God, Lily realized the alias he went by was Chuck before she found her voice,
"Holy shit. T-that was my dad, that was God."
"Wait I was literally in the presence of God and I didn't even know it? Holy shit indeed." Was all Azure could say. They stayed silent for a moment before Azure spoke again,
"...You know you could've easily gotten your grace back. You could've chosen to be the powerful Seraph angel Ashriel again. So why didn't you?" Lily's reply was instant,
"Because that's not who I am, I'm not Ashriel and I never will be again, I don't want to be her again. That's not what I want, I know what I want. I want to stay apart of team free will for as long as I can. I wanna stay right by those dorks," Lily gestured towards Sam, Dean, and Cas, "I wanna stay right by you, 'Zure." Azure tried to keep a straight face before her lips shifted into a grin and she hugged Lily,
"Aww you sap," Lily chuckled at Azure's comment, "we'll probably go through even bigger and worse things, not to mention the whole Metatron ordeal isn't quite over, we still need to find Cas's stolen grace. Despite this, I think we'll be okay, just don't give up on me and I won't give up on you." Lily grinned,
"You got it." Lily blocked out all the worries and fears form her head and wrapped her arms around Azure and hugged her back. Ignoring everything else and just focusing on how she could hear Azures heart beat she thought to herself, 'Yeah, I think we can do this.'
