Freedom: Chapter 2

  Riley's P.O.V

"Now Riley, I want you to call me every now and then so I know how your doing. I'll pick you up at 1:30-ish and--" "I know Uncle Wilford, we've been over this a thousand times." I interrupt with a slight tone of annoyance in my voice. He starts the car and reverses out of the dirt driveway. He makes his way to the main road and sighs, "Riley. You know how I feel about this. I just want you to be safe. Your the only one I have left in my life who I look forward to seeing every morning and the last thing I want to see at night." I look over at him, feeling a little bad for snapping at him. I thought about what he said for a sec and the realization kicked in. he wanted to make me feel sorry for him and change my mind about going to town on my own. Its a good thing I learned how he plays his mind games. I smile and chuckle quietly to myself, "Nice try Uncle Will, but I'm not changing my mind about going to town alone."

He wiped the frown off his face and smirked. "Worth a shot" he said. I playfully punch him lightly in the shoulder so that I wouldn't make him swerve off the road. To be honest, I was actually kinda nervous about going to town all by myself. it would just be me wandering the sidewalks alone for a little while. I mean, It's not like I wouldn't have anything to do. There's a library, a nice knickknack shop with different figurines for anyone's particular taste and a place that i like to call 'The Nerd Shop'. Just thinking about it made me feel giddy inside.

'The Nerd Shop' had everything from comic books to L.A.R.P costumes. A safe haven for gamers, comic nerds, and just the average collector. Uncle Wilford doesn't really understand why that place is my favorite place to go, but I don't care what he thinks. As long as I get to got there, I'll be hunkie dorie. Oh darn it! thats something that Uncle Will would say. I swear his weirdness is rubbing off on me more and more everyday.

We finally enter the small town of Evermoore. "Welp, we're here. I mean, Your here." uncle wilford said to me. I smile as I grab my pink leather purse and drape the strap over my shoulder. I open the car door and step onto the sidewalk. I give my uncle one last glance before closing the door. He rolls down the window and says to me, almost pleading "Be safe." I smile and walk over to his window of the car. I knock twice on the window and he rolls it down for me. I kiss him lightly on the cheek. (sorry if this is a little weird for some of you, but in my family its just a more complex form of a 'thank you' or something.) I say to him "I'll be fine uncle Willy. I'm seventeen, I can take care of myself." he smiles and gives me a slight nod. I walk back onto the sidewalk and head for the library, I had a couple of overdue books i needed to turn in. Oops.

Wilford's P.O.V

It broke my heart to hear her say 'I can take care of myself'. Next year she would be eighteen and she would be able to move out and head off on her own. She was the last person that I actually, genuinly cared about. I watched her walk away from the car and further into town, most likely the library. I shifted the car back I to drive and make my way back to the cabin.

The drive home felt like it took forever, even though I only live about twenty minutes from Evermoore. I felt so alone.  Riley was the only family I had left. After my brother and my sister in law died, I almost couldn't live with myself. But when I heard that they had a baby girl and I was the only living relative that she had. I jumped at the opportunity to raise her. I was not going to let her live in an orphanage. I would raise her like the good man i knew i could be...

For Mark and Amy's sake.

*Omg what a Chapter! ok so just a little warning, i might not post another chapter for a little while... i've  been super busy and i might not have enough time to write another*
