Chapter 26 - It Hurts

"Remove me from the family registry." Taeyeon stood in front of her mother, her eyes reflecting her determination.

"What?" Her mother could not be any more shocked.

"I said, remove me from the family registry. I don't want to be your daughter anymore." Taeyeon spoke monotonously.

"Why? So you can be part of the Byun family? Even if I did and you marry Baekhyun, I won't accept you as my daughter-in-law. I won't do it. No, I can't do it." Her mother looked away.

"Do you ever think about me? You were selfish from the start. You wanted to marry me to a guy I barely knew after lying about your so-called marriage, now you break our relationship when you really want to marry his father. Do you really love him, or is this for the company?" Taeyeon shouted as tears fell.

"My heart hurts every day, thinking about him suffering as well. My heart hurts so bad I feel like killing myself to end this pain. Would you hurt this much if you don't marry Baekhyun's father?" Taeyeon screamed as she hit her chest.

"Now you're treating me as if I'm a prisoner, locking me up, keeping an eye on the things I do. And anyway, you'd be free if I'm not your daughter. You've put me through hell for years, scarring me for life with claustrophobia." Taeyeon's mother could only look away, for her daughter's words were true.

"Please, let me go. I'll give you three days. If you don't, I don't know what silly things I'm capable of." Taeyeon stormed out of the room, leaving her mother in utter shock.

She buried her head in her palms as she thought through daughter's words. It was a tempting offer.

She wanted her freedom, but that meant she had to lose her one and only daughter who she failed to care for in her early childhood years.

"Why... Why do we have to come to this..."

The next day Taeyeon got to school, she had a small group of bodyguards around her, drawing the attention of the students to herself.

"Wow, did something happen?" A student whispered loud enough.

"This is crazy. It's the first time we have a student having bodyguards." Another spoke.

Taeyeon disliked the attention and she was starting to feel breathless at the close proximity of the guards.

"We'll be back to get you at the end of the day. Do not try to run away." They bowed before leaving. Taeyeon sighed as she made her way to class.

"Yah, what's going on? It's unlike for your family to have bodyguards. Did something big happen?" Yuri came forward to ask her as soon as she stepped into the classroom. People were gossiping as they threw glances at Taeyeon.

"Nothing. It's just for protection." Taeyeon didn't want to tell them what had happened or it may spread to the rest of the school. Baekhyun wouldn't want that.

Class started and after a few hours, recess time kicked in and students were finally let out of the classrooms.

Just as Taeyeon and her clique were going to the canteen, they stumbled upon Baekhyun and a girl flirting at the centre line of the school.

Baekhyun seemed like he was making jokes or sending praises that left the girl laughing or blushing. She was twirling her hair as she stood there shyly.

Without knowing, Taeyeon's blood started to boil. Her fists were clenched tightly and she felt her face getting hot.

So this is how he's going to be when I'm away trying to solve and salvage the relationship?

Angry and about to explode, she walked away hurriedly, not wanting to see them anymore.

"Yah Kim Tae Yeon! Wait up!" Hyoyeon shouted as they ran after their leader.

Baekhyun saw it all, but he gave no shit. Or so he thought.

When school ended, Taeyeon looked around outside before she made her exit. The bodyguards were waiting for her outside school as expected.

She waited for a crowd of students to leave at the same time, blending in with them. As soon as she was far away enough, she ran.
She ran and ran until she was outside the Byun's residence.

She waited and waited. Soon the sun faded as it purpled into darkness.

Baekhyun made his way home, a different girl in his arms as they made their way towards Taeyeon.

"Oppa. Why is she here? Do you two know each other?" The girl asked as they stood in front of Taeyeon.

Taeyeon could only scoff in disbelief. Baekhyun smiled at the girl and said, "Don't you know? She's my stepsister."

"Could you please leave the two of us? Thank you and I seek your cooperation." Taeyeon spoke through gritted teeth.

"O-okay. See you next time oppa!" She gave him a kiss before sashaying away. Taeyeon let out another scoff.

"Wow, how great was that? Here you are flirting with other girls when we aren't officially over? Nice going." Taeyeon was hurting inside, but anger took over majority of her emotions.

"I thought you were the one who initiated the break up? Since we've broken up, I have the rights to meet or date whoever I want as I please." Baekhyun pocketed his hands as he stared down at Taeyeon.

"B-break up? When did I ever initiate a break up? Are you coming up with lies now in our given situation to cover up your disgusting deeds? You're surprising me more and more." Taeyeon had her fists clenched tightly at how a disappointment he was, but was more disappointed at herself for overlooking his character.

"I think you're the one lying. You initiated a break up through text. I replied okay and you replied you were okay too but now you come to my house to find me, claiming that I'm being a jerk? What the heck Taeyeon?" Baekhyun was frustrated and angry as well.

"Since when did I ever send you a text?" Then realisation hit her.

"There." Baekhyun showed the texts that day and it was definitely Taeyeon's number.

Taeyeon's eyes widened.

She was right.

"It... It isn't me. I had my phone confiscated." Taeyeon was overwhelmed.

"W-what? Then who..." Now it was Baekhyun who was hit with realisation.

"My mother..." Taeyeon's head was filled with despise for her mother as she realised how cruel she could be.

They stood there in silence as they realise they have misunderstood one another over a measly text.

"I'm... Sorry. I should have tried to talk to you when I received the text." Baekhyun hung his head low. Their parents were really going the extreme miles to break them up.

"I'm sorry too. Because of my mother... We became like this." Taeyeon sobbed as she hid her face in her palms.

Baekhyun's heart hurt as he watched her cry. He knows she was going through a lot of pain. They both know.

"TAEYEON!" A bodyguard shouted. The bodyguards then came running towards them. Baekhyun hurriedly pulled her into his embrace and hugged her tightly.

"What do you want?!" Baekhyun shouted.

"Taeyeon-ssi, you have to go back with us this instance." The head bodyguard spoke. He signalled his comrades to tear the two apart. Taeyeon was scared out of her wits as she desperately clung onto Baekhyun.

"Baekhyun! Baekhyun!"

"Taeyeon! Don't go please. Taeyeon!"

Taeyeon was forcefully taken away and put into the car that drove up to them.

"Taeyeon! Taeyeon!" Baekhyun banged on the car windows as he tried to open the door but it was locked.

"Baekhyun..." Taeyeon cried as the car slowly started to pick up its speed before driving off in full speed. Baekhyun kneeled in the middle of the road as he screamed into the darkness, watching as the car sped away.

He wiped his angry tears and stormed into his father's study room.

"What is it?" His father did not spare him a glance as he continued his paperwork.

"I'm going to marry Taeyeon. I don't care. If you can pursue your happiness, I can also do the same with every means that I have." Baekhyun said his piece before going back to his room.

Just you wait. I'll show you that your decision to marry Taeyeon's mother, will be the most regretful one.

Taeyeon was dragged into the room where her mother waiting for her.

"How dare you meet that boy?! I told you before to not meet him until the wedding is over!" Her mother's voice boomed.

Taeyeon started to laugh. It was hilarious to her. Her mother's selfishness was a joke to her.

"You have two days left. Remove me from the family's registry. I don't want to have a mother like you." Taeyeon spat before leaving, slamming the door behind her.

I'll make sure to make you suffer when the day I become your daughter-in-law comes.
